It has been said time and time again that trying to pull players from one game to yours is an extremely difficult feat because players have invested so much time in the old game than yours.
The only one I can think that succeeded was Fornitw overtaking PUBG.
Fortnite had the market advantage of releasing on console first and being f2p on top of running well no matter what platform. They just beat Pubg to market
There's also inherently a problem with trying to attract a playerbase you've just demonstrated is flighty and willing to go play other games.

You think they would learn after how quickly Evil Dead died that this wouldn’t make it. And Killer Klowns is an even more obscure movie than Evil Dead.

Evil Dead, Texas Chainsaw, Friday the 13th, Identity V, VHS, the list goes on but all assym horror games have the same fate.
A very fun first few weeks while everybody figures out the game. Then people figure out the absolutely busted way to play and everybody leaves the game in droves or goes back to DBD like a beaten prostitute. Doesn't help that they usually accelerate the process with dumb shit like EGS exclusivity or liscensing issues.
You know, a lowpoly horror game with fixed camera would be pretty cool, and it would have sold more units than this DBD clone, something like Resident Evil 1, Parasite Eve, Dino Crisis, Clock Tower 2.
What's next, a 5v5 hero shooter but it's Rocky horror picture show? Attack of the Killer Tomatoes but it's a survival crafting game? Who asked for this?

This would actually be great, I fricking loved the critters franchise as a kid.
Alternatively, a boomer shooter based on leprechaun in the hood 1&2, with dlc based on the one where leprechaun is in space (3? 4?)

Suits. Any brand with the slightest name recognition will inevitably suffer this same fate.
But like, it's a mostly forgotten IP that, as far as I'm aware, didn't even have a sequel, can't even be called a franchise. I barely remember watching it myself, and I was big into horror movies for most of my life.
It's still well known among actual horror fans and just had its 35th anniversary. It doesn't have to appeal to a huge audience, and is clearly made for those more die hard horror fans.
I'm just sick of every 70's-90's Horror IP pumping out a DBD, or Friday the 13th clone.
The games that come out of these IPs have become as stagnant as the horror genre during the 80s.
From what i've seen its revoltingly unbalanced with not just klowns being far too strong but a couple of weapons being incomparably powerful. Broken in a way number patching cant fix.

I remember when their other game Deathgarden had a rerelease and people were b***hing the hunters were too strong because the game was more about movement and avoidance than t-bagging in the killer's face, and they proceeded to neuter hunters until the game died because unlike DBD the playerbase was large enough to kill the game if one side stopped playing
Should have made it a single player experience. Expand the original movie. Make the clowns mutate or something. Giant clown creatures, clown animals, clown cities.
Charging 40 dollars for a game that as far as I know doesn't fix any of the numerous problems of Dead by Daylight and relying on an IP most people don't know about
At least Puppetmaster was humble enough to be totally free and even that didn't get many players despite it trying to do new things

Not enough customization on either side. No perk system or anything like it is a weird choice and makes the game feel half-done. We know there were also Klown powers cut at the last minute.
The lack of customization definitely makes rounds feel pretty samey, especially when certain weapons are just flat out better than others. Fricking popcorn shotgun needs a nerf bad.

Takes many shots to down now. The only reason you could say it's broken right now is because they buffed Klown backpedal sprint and it made the faster Klowns impossible to catch without using a ranged option
Even then, last time I played last week (which was before a balance patch) Humans were by far the stronger side. Weapons deal way too much damage, especially bladed weapons. Air horn is completely fricked and lets you 1v2 Klowns and afaik it wasn't touched

It was already nerfed. Should've seen how it was day one.
It's still more fun than DbD, if anything just because it's fast paced and isn't just looping for 20 minutes.

More like Friday the 13th (also made by Illfonic) than it is DBD. Friday is obviously better than this, but that game is now dead and abandoned aside Russian with cheat scripts. Anyway would rank these similar games as F13>KKFOS>TCM>DBD.
Friday the 13th really perfected the genre, and it's a shame we'll never get that again.
Klowns suffers what the eventual latter half of Friday the 13th's life had in terms of the game. That being the Humans became way too overpowered over the killer and some human builds are better gameplay wise than others. For Klowns, its everyone picking the brawler build and Friday it's everyone picking Vanessa or Bugsy/Chad.
Can only do so much with the IP.
The concept of asynchronous pvp is fundamentally flawed, with Dead by Daylight being an anomaly. So anyone who thinks they're going to make a Dead by Daylight killer when all they really do is make another Friday the 13th is pretty fricking stupid.
No one is calling this a DbD "killer", and not every game has to directly compete with another. There's room for both; the tryhard Twitch sweats can play DbD while people who just want something fun and more wacky can play Klowns.
Bullshit, this isn't an ecosystem that can support multiple games. It's a niche genre. You either kill the king or end up like the rest which means FRICKING DEAD since it's multiplayer only.

Shame because I've been having a lot of fun with killer klowns (I'm definitely a fan of the movie so take what I say with a grain of salt). I definitely think it's better than the other assyms out there mostly because the "survivor" side can actually fight back ( I never got to try VHS or that other one where you can also fight back so I don't know how good those are).
The balance doesn't feel too bad so far. If humans get lucky RNG they can run around and beat the shit out of clowns, but all the weapons break after multiple uses so it can't last. Klowns can and should be able to take out humans but they can easily be overpowered if they get too wienery. And even though it technically has a "winning" side you still get your individual exp points which is a better indicator of whether or not you did well. Your team can lose but if you did objectives, got kills, escape, etc, you still basically won even if the game says you lost.
The only thing that actually pisses me off is that the game is clearly not finished and that they are asking too much money for it. If they sold it for maybe $30 and called it early access, maybe it'd fair better, though people rightly stay away from anything early access.
I just don't like multiplayer games that much.

Making a live service game is a high risk high reward endeavor. The majority of them flop soon after release and lose the studio a lot of money. But when they're successfully, we're talking hundreds of millions if not billions of dollars successful.

The game is dead once the player base is gone. I can still jump on L4D and have fun right now playing only with the bots, this game and all the ones like it have no replay value once the humans are gone.

I would play the frick out of vidya based on the Final Girl solitaire games. It would work really well as a turn based survivor management game with real-time killer encounters.
