Eidos fricked with CORE from the get go, it was no different than Interplay whoring out Fallout while Black Isle was forced to pick up the pieces. It was Eidos who forced annual games when the devs didn't want to make them so fricking hard they decided to kill Lara in TR4, it was Eidos who then forced them to make Chronicles which made them have to separate their team in half one for TR5 and one for AoD, making both come out as buggy messes. Angel of Darkness was the culmination of seven straight years of a dev team being extremely burnt out, sick and tired of Tomb Raider and crunching until they fizzled out.
If they didn’t want to make Lara they would have left - and they did leave, after Lara was taken from them. The game they preceded to make was absolute shit.
The yearly releases (after 2) where also done by a different team inside Core, the main team made Project Eden during that time.

I associate Tomb Raider with slow atmospheric solo exploration, and I associate Call of Duty with fast tightly-scripted cinematic campaigns. Ignoring the stroke reading that gave me, Classic Lara goes from TR1 to AoD; all games developed by CORE belond to the same timeline. Then you have the LAU trilogy (Legends, Anniversary, Underworld) then the recent Survivor trilogy.
I know that AOD was made by the OG devs, but I thought that the lore wise its separate from Classics.
