If you want to leak because you want people to know - not just for attention - there are basically two key parts to doing so.
Primarily, you add in bullshit. Frick up a name, add a couple ideas to the concept you're posting about that you know aren't real but sound plausible, say the wrong team is making it, post a release date that's too early or late.
Most importantly though, you first WAIT.Don't sit sit down at dinner with your source and post it all to Twatter as he's saying it. Wait as long as you can to do so because the longer anyone knows things, the more likely it isn't to be your source who they think or can prove fricked up.
The attention is the problem here though.
It's a basic counterintelligence tactic. Flush shit down a pipe and see where it goes.

I doubt it. At this point I have to assume Nintendo is planning to do full scale remakes of the 3D Zelda games which is why they wont just port the simple remasters. The fact Nintendo finally brought back Dekus from Majora's Mask in the new 2D Zelda game convinced me further. Why does Nintendo care about Dekus after such a long time? Probably because they're going to eventually remake MM on the switch 2.

While I still cannot rule out that Nintendo is just trying to give Engage more room to breathe it is looking increasingly likely to me that Emily Rogers jumped the gun when she saw Sigurd in Engage and assumed it was FE4R since that rumor had long been in vogue with FE fans. Meaning people like Nate the Hate and Jeff Grubb who also claim they have heard about FE4R have only actually heard what Emily Rogers said and don't know anything more than us. If it eventually shows, it means nothing to them. If it never comes, they can weasel out of it by saying it was cancelled.
As for whether it was ever real or not I have two theories. One, it was real but it was that cancelled 3DS game, likely cancelled in response to Echoes' sales. Two, it was never real and the cancelled 3DS game was actually Engage before being restarted on Switch, hence why it has a stray reference to iron18.

Just the state of the industry these days. When a new game takes 5-7 years to make remaking something with an already established audience is both risk averse and takes much less time to do.

So long as IS continue to work on remakes of older FE titles, a 4 remake is an inevitability. Might not be the next remake, or the one after, but it'll happen. The real question is whether or not the devs are interested in remakes now that FE is more popular than ever before.
FE4 is the one that makes the most sense to remake though, they already did Shadow Dragon, Mystery and Gaiden, so it's next line. Unless they really want to skip ahead and remake the Tellius games next.
If any game is getting a remake at some point in the future it's Roy's, and only because the only generation of fire Emblem he didn't show up in was the DS and Wii one. He showed up during the Wii U and 3DS era in Shadows of Valentia, and then again during the Switch era in Engage. Yeah I'm not saying it's never going to happen just that I don't think there's actually much evidence for an FE4 remake existing or that that's for sure what the next FE will be like some leakers Nate are saying right now. For every bit of evidence pointing towards FE4R just waiting to be revealed there's a pretty simple alternative hypothesis.

No we're not. Since Awakening we've had a fairly consistent release schedule of about 2-3 years between releases. 3H->Engage feels a lot longer but it was only a little over three years. As much as I would like it, I can't see Nintendo giving us another one so soon after Engage. They're probably also going to extra careful about when they put out the next one since Engage under-performed every game in the last decade except Echoes.
The problem with FE4 is do you really trust NINTENDO to tell an epic Game of Thrones like story with all the explicit and implicit stuff that goes along with it, especially with the incest and mass killings, I really don't need to see a modern nintendofied version of Doorway to Destiny with anime gasps included.
Intelligent Systems is the developer for Fire Emblem, which is more concerning than if the series was developed by someone owned by Nintendo.
Also, Nintendo has consistently shown itself to be completely fine with games tackling mature themes, as long as it's the right franchise. You're not going to see a grimdark game with Bowser genociding toads and Mario putting his hopes on his unborn child, but Xenoblade can get away with it. Similarly, you're not going to get a half-naked Isabelle pole dancing, but Nintendo will ask for lewder outfits for someone like Bayonetta.

Only a minimal amount of "leak" is actually good. The guys don't reveal enough to disrupt Nintendo's marketing campaign, but at the same time it's enough to pique people's curiosity and create a buzz out of nothing (marketing motive in the first place).

Real leaks come from regional playtesters breaking NDAs and western 3rd parties involved with games.
Its how we got Plant, Erdrick and Sora in Smash leaked several months in advance, FE Engage leaked several months before a direct and the newer Mario Rabbids game leaked 2 weeks in advance. Nintendo is good at keeping their shit locked up, but anyone else they share it with, is always the source of a real leak.
