Yeah they're the only enemies to put fear in you at any level next to Deathclaws. They're not too hard if you plan out how to attack them but head on attacks will get you swarmed and chugging antidotes

You can just move north right towards the strip, avoiding the deathclaws isnt hard at all, the supermutants arent a big deal either.
I was sucessful first try and have done it 3 or 4 times since and never died.
