Metro Last Light has this gun and it feels like a total shitpost >theme : slow powerful sniper rifle with massive damage and penetration power, with rare and expensive ammunition >you find it in a late game area (where having two versatile weapons is great because lots of tough enemies) except it's stupidly expensive to buy compared to quite literally anything else, not to mention the attatchments so the gun isn't garbage with the capacity to hold 1 round >ammo for it is incredibly rare to find around, there's like 10 bullets across the whole game without buying it >given it's scarcity and damage potential, theres not one, singular enemy where the weapon is worth using, save for the pretty much final boss of the game (before the final mission that is just a shootout with infinite ammo), where you'd be better off shooting with the military grade rounds you may have spent trying to buy any ammo >theres already a weaker faster and more affordable sniper rifle that one shots any normal enemy in the game
Ya it's the same way in cod world at war
So that's the ptrs-91 which is a Russian anti-tank rifle
1 in the chamber, massive armor penetration, can dismember whatever limb you shoot
But basically useless compared to any other gun
The issue is we are expected to believe its an "assault rifle", as in an easily man-portable weapon that is issued to the majority of the US troops. It is fricking gigantic, has a ridiculous AA gunsight, is water cooled despite firing low calibre ammunition and only having a 30 round magazine by default (side mounted for some reason btw) In development it was supposed to be a power armor-only heavy machinegun, but they realized that they only had like ten other guns and no large automatic weapons so they scrapped the idea and made this piece of shit a regular gun.
Yes because even in its own game its horribly out of place. Im supposed to believe that this piece of shit is what they were giving to our boys in alaska? Bethesda already introduced the R91 assault rifle which is actually a really nice addition to the games, why they didnt just keep that is beyond me.
>The issue is we are expected to believe its an "assault rifle", as in an easily man-portable weapon that is issued to the majority of the US troops
It's not though, it was made for power armor soldiers. The fact that a normal man can even use it, even if it's very cumbersome, proves that the design is actually pretty good.
>but they realized that they only had like ten other guns and no large automatic weapons so they scrapped the idea and made this piece of shit a regular gun
No. The actual assault rifle apparently just wasn't finished in time. There's still half finished assets in the game's files. Also, it's not the general issue rifle for the US Army in the game. The combat rifle is.
>it was supposed to be a power armor-only heavy machinegun, but they realized that they only had like ten other guns and no large automatic weapons so they scrapped the idea
This part is definitely true.
It's why some guns, like the combat rifle/shotgun, the 10mm pistol, and the "assault rifle", are so cartoonishly gigantic that they only look proportionate in power armor hands, while looking like a child holding a NERF gun without power armor. This is also why it always looks so fricking silly when you see a tiny .44 revolver or Deliverer pistol in power armor hands, which could never fit a finger inside the trigger guard.
The design isn't that bad compared to the pipe weapons but the textures on this gun are fricking abysmal. Genuinely 240p smudged shit that somehow got through QA. Weapon mods are 100% needed for FO4.

Sorry I meant the ptrs-41
bad guns?
why would they put the knife there?
that's your issue with that gun?
It's the basics of CQC
intentionally bad, or "bad on purpose" doesn't count
It's just an ugly gun, it's pretty based as a fully auto with the drum mag.
What's wrong with that gun? It's clearly based on the old water-cooled designs.

Of all the nonsensical BS in Fallout, that's where it all falls apart for you?

Wouldn't be that bad if they just copied a maxim but that thing has a bunch of other issues as well
Its not a bad gun, actually I love it.
I love stake guns.
Nothing is more pleasurable than impaling enemies to walls.
Fallout 4 was so bad. The pipe guns were a neat idea though
Frick this thing.
Where did the joints go?
Where did the hand go?
How does he aim up or down?
