Whoa there anon it seems you actually want to talk about video games but you accidentally posted a genre which doesn't generate a lot of attention because it's a niche. Unfortunately this thread was marked for death at the moment of it's conception.
Also adding Starsector to the games already mentioned in here.
I've been loving X4 but have only scratched the surface. I love how fricking ugly all the humans are, especially the men. My goal has been to go around and find the hottest women for my ship/bridge. I've got a fully loaded Katana as my main and finally bought 12 medium miners (split alligators). I really thought they'd bring in more income than I was making fighting/picking up leftover arrays and eggs
something feels off about the economy in x4 compared to x3. it was partially the reason why i dropped it but mostly performance getting worse the longer i played.
>but with modern Voilition never ever
lmao the fact you think they would they're being bad devs when in fact they're dead, it's like you're dancing on their graves for no reason at all
Spiritual successor to Freelancer, made by the Gankerlancer/Skyrim train modder >is it in dev hell
They just got a publisher with a release date now so presumably not
They're both completely fricking different from Freelancer.
Also Chris Roberts is a frickwit and the only reason we even got Freelancer is because Microsoft told him to frick off and gutted it. One of the few positive things that company has ever contributed to the world.
that's what you're b***hing about? a few seconds of animation covering a loading screen? because starfield has vast expanses of nothing, if that's what you want to fly around in.
Yes there is, if you target it from within the same system then you get a cutscene of you traveling there. All that's missing is the ability to trigger landing cutscene when you revisit a poi
The spaceship construction and combat has SO MUCH POTENTIAL. I really want Bethesda to patch the frick out of those sections, then people will mod them to hell and back for a glorious Freelancer type experience.
A bit off-topic but I saw glitch sometime ago where the interior and the exterior of the ship got separated while in a dogfight, made me wish we could've gotten funnels/options as weapons.
I know, I just hate that everything is essentially a light freighter or gunboat of some sort. I've seen some big ships but single seat fighter craft are essentially impossible with game's system
hopefully mods will fix all that
Can you tell me what the mode brings to X3 in short?
I have about 200+ hours in X3:AP and 200+ in X3:FL, but haven't tried any of the overhaul mods.
Should I play it?
It gives you an AI rival corp that competes with you. They have their own traders and production facilities that you have to capture or destroy, and if you ignore them they keep becoming richer and more powerful.
Def give it a go, it has an installer, so its piss easy to set up.
Its super fricking dead. The story has been over since 2015 or so and they keep milking it by adding an hour of content every six months (maybe longer than that).
I liked Space Rangers 2, Sword of the Stars, Starfleet Command, Star Relic and Seedship.
I didn't like Sins of a Solar Empire, Out There, nor Crying Suns.
Distant Worlds Universe >find ultra rare luxury resource, only 1 source spawns in the galaxy >on a planet I cant terraform yet >find some xenos across the galaxy that can live there >conquer them >turn the planet with the resource into a penal colony >start shipping the entire species to the planet to mine the korrabian spice
Distant Worlds 2 sucks shit dont bnother with it
Yeah, it came with the collector's edition. The final script takes entirely from it but cuts a bunch of scenes, including the romance arc. I'm not making this up, I promise you.
Everything in Freelancer got cut due to deadlines. it's one reason I'm looking forward to underspace. Once you learn how much got cut from Freelancer it's depressing, beyond just having no asian gf by the end

No, there was some good stuff there like hireable wingmen or trading missions.
There was also side quests. All those news stories on stations? They were cut side quests.
Also there was a whole black hole system that never made it in that looked awesome.
they're on shaky ground, from the previews we've seen the game has some issues, gameplay wise its shaping up to be similar to homeworld 2 but we will have to see on release
It's definitely the best written one, and has the best, most crazy set of aliens. I want a new game that has this kind of exploration and meeting alien races as you explore.
what do people think about Spacebourne 2? people keep hyping it up but i think they're more mad at Starfield instead of actually outlining if the game is good or not, it looks really flashy but is it actually a fun game?
yeah i'll be honest i dont know either, someone randomly brought it up in some starfield discussion and all of the reviews i see are just full of people b***hing about starfield, just wanted to know if anyone normal tried it
That's it. It's fascinating to me how no space games, especially space sims, realized you need a good campaign to massively expand your potential audience.
Freelancer feels really good. The interface is so goddamn natural and intuitive. And most things existing on a single plane (before getting into dogfights) just works.
Endless Space 2, I can't put it down.
It's got a lot of features and gameplay that make it feel like an actual space 4X game and not just a 4X game in space. Population management, planet terraforming, ship design, empire laws, each game you play you can learn to take advantage of a new mechanic you didn't previously and some factions have some wild play styles. What I like about it more than say Stellaris is a lot of the mechanics feel intentional and aid towards victory instead of just being there for flavor and not really doing anything outside of RP purposes. Plus it's got the best blending of art direction and UI I've seen in a game.Last few DLCs were outsourced to another dev team and were so bad they objectively make the game worse as a whole, but some modders were hired to offical patch/rebalance them
I agree with a lot of people that there should be a full blown RPG complete with a 4 armed Craver party member with 4 weapon slots. Of course that and a space sim is probably asking for a lot from a AA company
Frick I remember replaying the demo over and over all week when it launched, then buying it instead of EVE. Roleplaying the frick out of it on crossfire. Good times.
Map design in how each sector is individually laid out or how the sectors are laid out across the map?
I haven't played any prior X games, so I'm probably a bad judge
In previous games, it was a simple "sectors connected by jumpgames", so you can only move between sectors next to one another
Each sector was it's own sky box with a bunch stations, rocks and occasional big fricking ship.
Kind of like in Freelancer.
But the way these levels were laid out was abysmal.
Pic related is what it looked like in X-Tension, the first standalone expansion for the first game.
I apologize for the abysmal quality, I could not find a better map on the internet.
The middle part of the left side used to be controlled by Xenon who would instakill you unless you were in an endgame ship, so in X:BTF you would often have to travel all the way around the map like a crescent, visiting like 19 sectors, and each of those sectors you had the change to get bullied by a Xenon patrol who early game would suicide ram you to death.
So the way the problem was solved in X-Tension was by not solving at all and adding that those massive single file corridors on the bottom and the right side of the map, including 15 system dead end. And that 15 system dead end is littered with 2 Xenon control sectors where it is very likely any automated ship you have will get blown to bits.
I tried X2, and they just kept building on top of this garbage foundation, and as far as I know, they did so through the X3 as well.
Kotor and Mass Effect
my man
simple as.
That one. Good thread, see you next time.
Whoa there anon it seems you actually want to talk about video games but you accidentally posted a genre which doesn't generate a lot of attention because it's a niche. Unfortunately this thread was marked for death at the moment of it's conception.
Also adding Starsector to the games already mentioned in here.
X4
Freespace 2

imagine an all female Startrek managing the enterprise. life
something feels off about the economy in x4 compared to x3. it was partially the reason why i dropped it but mostly performance getting worse the longer i played.
X3AP with XRM mod.
is script/mod support for X4 as good as it is in X3AP yet? Decided to wait a few years for community content to catch up to AP
>Starsector
>tfw youre still getting filtered by the tutorial
I guess space is just beyond my reach lads...
>we will never get a modern Alpha Centauri game
and thank frick for that. imagine the insane /misc/shit that'd be in it
>Starbound
how about store citizen then?
Remove "Starbound" and throw in Masters of Orion 2, and the list will be flawless.
i wish there was a Freespace 3, but with modern Voilition never ever
>modern Voilition
Who wants to tell him?
I do
Volition's gone m8
oh.
well i guess it's for the best, if volition were alive Freespace 3 would just have awful quirky star wars dialogue anyways
Anon I....
>but with modern Voilition never ever
lmao the fact you think they would they're being bad devs when in fact they're dead, it's like you're dancing on their graves for no reason at all
Galaxy on Fire 2
Pretty good Freelancerlike
I will never forgive Fishlabs GmBH (now defunct) for ruining my fav game franchise.
What happened?
>filtered by the tutorial
I don't remember starsector's tutorial ever being difficult
Plating through the Mass Effect games for the first time currently and having a blast. Dunno why Ganker shits on them
Freelancer, hoping Underspace is good when it comes out in 2050 assuming society has somehow not collapsed by then
What's Underspace? And is it in dev hell?
Spiritual successor to Freelancer, made by the Gankerlancer/Skyrim train modder
>is it in dev hell
They just got a publisher with a release date now so presumably not
it scratches my autism itch
Campaign mode is gonna make this game blow up... 2 more weeks...
Starflight
Master of Orion 2 is the only game that never leaves my PC.
MoO1 was better.
the second became too civilization-y.
I don't want to build space toilets on every planet for 5% more efficient flushing.
i need a quick opinion on everspace. it is on sale
it's pretty good, it's mostly a shooter. reminiscent of Freelancer
Very good
big replayability value
Its tine for me to download and mod freespace blue planet and see how far they pushed the graphics by now
>Falling Frontier
>Capital Command
>Homeworld 3
It's looking good spacebros!
Man, there are so many fricking space games
Mass Effect 1
Starfield is my favorite space game to release in a long time.
It's the first halfway decent followup to freelancer we got, just needs a little polish
Star Citizen proves you so, so wrong
It's done?
Been for years. They just keep adding to it now.
They're both completely fricking different from Freelancer.
Also Chris Roberts is a frickwit and the only reason we even got Freelancer is because Microsoft told him to frick off and gutted it. One of the few positive things that company has ever contributed to the world.
let's go to that quest!
>fast travels to ship
>fast travel to location
>talk to quest guy
>fast travel to ship
>fast travel to next location
Don't use fast travel woah
you have to moron there's literally no way to fly your ship from planet to planet
that's what you're b***hing about? a few seconds of animation covering a loading screen? because starfield has vast expanses of nothing, if that's what you want to fly around in.
they have vast fields of literal nothing and no way to fly your ship from point a to point b it has zero immersion and just sucks quite frankly
You can target locations with your ship.
then hit fast travel yes you can
Yeah man sitting in a trade lane so much better than a kino cutscene.
That said you can't touch down on the same poi without fast travel and that indeed is bullshit.
Is it too much to ask for some :space: in our space games now?
Yes there is, if you target it from within the same system then you get a cutscene of you traveling there. All that's missing is the ability to trigger landing cutscene when you revisit a poi
Kys subhuman Rajeet

the unambiguous ship classifications bug my autism
Ship class is always based on reactor
I know, I just hate that everything is essentially a light freighter or gunboat of some sort. I've seen some big ships but single seat fighter craft are essentially impossible with game's system
hopefully mods will fix all that
X3, modded with litcube's universe
Can you tell me what the mode brings to X3 in short?

sigh
For me, it's Tortanic.
it was fun back then. Wonder how's it doing nowadays
Its super fricking dead. The story has been over since 2015 or so and they keep milking it by adding an hour of content every six months (maybe longer than that).
But that is the best space game.
I liked Space Rangers 2, Sword of the Stars, Starfleet Command, Star Relic and Seedship.
I didn't like Sins of a Solar Empire, Out There, nor Crying Suns.
>Space Rangers 2
muh homie. there's so much going under the hood in that game it's surreal.
I'm currenty looking for a good space 4x game, have little experience with those. Have Endless Space 2 and Remnants of Precurors on my disc
i couldn't get into endless space, but stellaris instantly hooked me
The opposite for me
Stelaris seams to have too many mehanics
>redditlancer
I shan't be posting in this thread
This game was being recommended here before Reddit existed you gay
>Ganker - baiting
You already did Mr joystick waggler
Anyone remember Gankerlancer?
Good times. Hope Underspace will be a worthy successor.
Distant Worlds Universe

Distant Worlds 2 sucks shit dont bnother with it
Conquest:Frontier Wars
>starfield isn't a good space gam- ACK
God I love Freelancer. If they made a new one would be day one purchase. Unless its like that starfield horeshit or something.
>t. liberty ale drinker
>not Sidewinder Fang
disgusting
I'm still mad he didn't frick the chink
He did in the original script
There's an original script?
Yeah, it came with the collector's edition. The final script takes entirely from it but cuts a bunch of scenes, including the romance arc. I'm not making this up, I promise you.

for me, it's Psi-5 Trading Company
Starfield.
KOTOR. (I and possibly II)
Any other answer is cope. Mass Effect is not a space game.
How is Mass Effect not a space game?
how is kotor a space game but ME isn't. if anything ME has more space exploration than KOTOR
Freelancer is my all time favourite space sim
for me it's X3AP with Mayhem
the definition of space kino is if interstellar travel is part of the gameplay and isn't a cutscene or loading screen.
Blackbird Interactive, PLEASE do not frick up Homeworld 3 like you did with Deserts Of wiener. It's the only game I'm looking forward to.
don't forget the state they left Shipbreaker in
they're on shaky ground, from the previews we've seen the game has some issues, gameplay wise its shaping up to be similar to homeworld 2 but we will have to see on release
>Freespace 1 and 2
>Freelancer
>3030 Deathwar
Simple as.
>Freespace 1 and 2
Don't get me wrong, anon. Freespace 1 was great and all, but 2 outshines 1 in nearly every manner.
DIVE! DIVE! DIVE! HIT YOUR BURNERS PILOT!!!
I didn't say 1 was better than 2. But they both stand in the top.
Fair enough, anon. Fair enough.
wing commander: privateer. still my favorite game of this type. for me it nails the ambiance, economy stuff perfectly
Star Control 2 is the greatest space game ever made IMO. Undoubtably the best space exploration game.
It's definitely the best written one, and has the best, most crazy set of aliens. I want a new game that has this kind of exploration and meeting alien races as you explore.
playing X3 Farnham's rn, i genuinely can't get into X4 and i'm glad this is out and free
To all the Star Control 2 chads, is the Ur-Quan Masters HD the definitive way to play?
Asking because I want to check the series out
Play the original UQM instead of HD.
Rebel Galaxy oozes charm.
Freelancer ofc
Rebel galaxy outlaw had until today the best combat and ost (sadly everything else is dogshit)
Everspace 2 is sadly wayyy too arcady to be fun, despite the nice class system and beautiful environments
Im still looking for a good freelancer-like fix...
Underspace is a straight copy of FL but with space leviathans
Emphasis on the space leviathans
As long as it nails regular space battles, I'm fine with this.
It just copies freelancer so... yes?
I'll wait and see the results, but logically yeah
what do people think about Spacebourne 2? people keep hyping it up but i think they're more mad at Starfield instead of actually outlining if the game is good or not, it looks really flashy but is it actually a fun game?
I don't get why people praise it when it's nothing but AI generated stuff and insane amounts of jank.
yeah i'll be honest i dont know either, someone randomly brought it up in some starfield discussion and all of the reviews i see are just full of people b***hing about starfield, just wanted to know if anyone normal tried it
I did. It's just
At most you can say it's ambitious
>We don't run this place, but we have an understanding with the people that do.
That's it. It's fascinating to me how no space games, especially space sims, realized you need a good campaign to massively expand your potential audience.
Freelancer feels really good. The interface is so goddamn natural and intuitive. And most things existing on a single plane (before getting into dogfights) just works.
The only thing that resonates with normies is being told what to like. Starfield is utter garbage but normies love it because muh space skyrim.
Colony Wars. If there's been a better snub-fighter game since it was released I haven't heard of it.
Oh and also Homeworld. I built my first PC just to play Homeworld. God damn what an incredible game.
Anyone played Space Pirates and Zombies? It's one of my favorite 2D space games
Looks like this. The sequel looks like ass so I haven't touched that.
yes its good, sequel is garbage as you've said. For most people, Starsector has been filling the hole SPAZ left behind
Endless Space 2, I can't put it down.
It's got a lot of features and gameplay that make it feel like an actual space 4X game and not just a 4X game in space. I want to see a space sim game instead of just a 4X in this universe, honestly. Same with Stellaris.
Good times.

For me, it's German autism
How is the map design?

I love Ixion
It's as if someone took all the flaws of Frostpunk and cranked them up to 11.
I don't care. Story (except the ending part) is good, and music is top tier.
