>lol actually there was an ancient civilization with super advanced tech who are just le gone now haha!!!
Is this the worst trope in gaming?
>lol actually there was an ancient civilization with super advanced tech who are just le gone now haha!!!
Is this the worst trope in gaming?
no atlantis is kino, you have to be white to appreciate it though it's not your fault
This. It's a literal ancient trope, it is like getting angry at "the hero's journey".
As with all media it's only good if done right and BotW is a perfect example of how to not do it.
Go ahead and try defending "They felt their time was up and disappeared by themselves".
TotK is how not to do it. Breath of the Wild was fine and fit with the rest of the series far better before the retcons.
You can't tell me ancient monks who built cool robots doing the buddhist self-mummification thing because God told them to isn't at least aesthetically cool.
>ancient civilization located in Africa
>white
It was west of spain or eye of sahara, or it didn't exist because Plato or the Egyptian priests were talking shit
>island
>located in africa
u wot?
Your so called knowledge is based on Disney-tier fairy tales.
Moron
Who else would have built it? Asians are too far away.
The famous mythological paradise, named after the Atlantic, which is in Africa.
It represents the fear of lost knowledge. homosexual Sapiens as a species has existed as far back as 300k years. Many subspecies like Neanderthals were clearly sapient.
You basically have this incomprehensible amount of time for humanity to have developed in yet all that remains of our earliest recorded history goes back no further than a couple thousand years.
They found a mummy of a man murdered in the alps from 3300 BC who had a kind of snow shoe that was surprisingly advanced yet never culturally translated to any known culture today. What this means is shit gets forgotten and gets forgotten fast. It doesn't take much time in the scale of centuries for structures to be lost, for technologies to be lost.
I mean look at fricking spain, it's almost impossible to tell that muslims had conquered it at some point. They never even left a genetic footprint.
It's literally "we wuz kangz before yakub" tier shit
>mc is the only one who can use their tech because he... he just is okay!!!
linkbros... are we frauds...
Well everyone just automated the cycle. Everyone knows Zelda is the goddess. Everyone knows Link is the god ordained hero. The Divine Beasts can blow up mountains but their purpose isn't to kill Ganon, rather to just support the Hero. Yes it was all made for people who have divine right to their powers.
Yes.
That’s one of the things that really bothered me about BotW, part of the appeal of the older dungeons was that it felt like anyone could enter them and they were locations with a presence in their world. All the tech being made for the use of one person or a tiny subset of people feels so limiting in comparison and just feels like gay wish fulfillment
Are classicgays moronic? Link was always chosen by the triforce of courage or descended from a line of heroes. he was never normal or a common man.
The tech in BotW was tailored to respond to the hero and even then only works if you have the access key that Zelda gave him in the form of the slate. It's less obnoxious than OoT Ganondorf apparently being too moronic to get 3 treasures any child could collect.
There’s a huge difference between earning a legendary item or tool and having an entire society’s culture and technology tailor made for you personally
>It's less obnoxious than OoT Ganondorf apparently being too moronic to get 3 treasures any child could collect.
To be fair, Ganondorf did get access to the Sacred Realm, but the Triforce split itself before he could have access to it all. I'm sure this is the starting point of the whole "chosen ones by destiny" crap that locked the three into an endless fight, since ALttP's Ganon managed to get the whole Triforce without any trouble.
I mean, there was that whole the door to the triforce locked behind him trapping him inside issue.
To be fair that ancient tech was just a pale imitation of even more ancient even more advanced tech and that tech was sophisticated enough that anyone could utilize it if they understood how.
He's the chosen one asspull.
>asspull
He has the soul of the hero and he do not have choice in the matter. Sadly he's just a tool for the goddess.
In TotK it's because of his Winter Soldier arm.
and in BotW it's because of the Sheikah Slate. Jesus, has nobody here actually PLAYED the games?
That's going to happen to america and brown people and 3rd worlders are going to talk about the legends where people used to be able to fly and talk to eachother across miles and see pictures move.
when white people are gone the chinese will take over and just eat all the other races and then starve to death after they depleted every food source in the world.
then the failed experiment of civilization will come to an end
I'd say yes for the trials of the sword, rest is shit
The fate of every hyper advanced civilization is to destroy itself either out of hubris or boredom.
Or they move on and just leave their less useful toys behind.
Nah
That's what the Romans did, well they didn't leave much behind and in fact after their destruction a lot of their secrets were destroyed setting shit back hundreds of years.
So anyone who thinks the advanced civilization thing is made up meme just remember the Romans
The Romans imploded by importing white immigrants from beyond the Danube.
Now it’s time to export brown ones and collapse the European order which rose from roman ashes.
you know someones a moron when they say immigrants destroyed rome and not the Aurelian plague which killed fricking half the population. hmm sort of reminds me of some other dying empire where the plague got downplayed by populist morons.
covid was a nothingburger
unvaxxed
untested
unbent
unbowed
cope sheeple
not just technology, but society as well. Romans pretty much invented the modern concept of citizenship and they're the reason so many law terms are in latin
Yes.
It's fun for a little while, I was disappointed you can't ride it in the desert especially since ToTK lets you construct a car just fine.
The most fun you can have is using a Savage Lynel Crusher to ride it directly into a Guardian, jump up, and knock it completely over like a bowling pin.
nintendo games are firstly made for children and children don't ask those questions
only the adult neckbeard pedophiles that also play their games do, but then again, not the intended audience so they haven't got to explain shit
It’s a trait in fiction that is as old as the earliest iterations of modern fantasy. Frick, they were pulling it in the 1920s with John Carter of Mars. It’s fine, not a new trope, ur a gay and I’m stronger, faster and smarter than you
Arcanum took this trope to the next level; you could revive the entire super advanced civilization at its peak in one of the game endings.
Name one (1) game that does this trope, but is good.
breath of the wild
But with the Zonai. They were better as a mysterious lost civilization that had nothing to do with the plot.
Might&Magic did it first and best.
Humanity is actually the ancient advanced civilization. But they forgot about that and rolled back to medieval age with technomagic on their astropod vessels because of their desperate war with ayy lmaos.
>Might&Magic did it first
Wizardry did it first, which M&M is a copy of.
M&M is the better series so it's fine.
morrowind
Chrono Trigger, especially because your party partially becomes responsible for the fall of said advanced civilization.
The reptites were really cool.
my dreams
Ys 8.
Utawarerumono
Mass Effect.
Xenogears
Bloodborne
Anything Warhammer 40k
Can't believe no one mentioned Arcanum, it's one of major plot points and discovering it is kino.
>Clockwork computer from 2nd century BC?
>Who the frick wrote this shit?
>Technology more advanced than anytthing that came after it for 2000 years is completely unrealistic
christgays refuse to admit that they destroyed europe and sold it to desert people
Trial of the Sword was something that should have been in the base game, there was no reason to lock the Master Sword's true form behind DLC considering how shitty the base weapon is compared to other late game weapons you find in the game, but Champion's Ballad is definitely worth it, it's a nice difficulty spike compared to the rest of the game and the last boss is very fun. Very bittersweet ending too.
>how shitty the base weapon is compared to other late game weapons you find in the game,
It's benefit is that it recharges. It's the weapon you use for trash, not wanting to use your proper gear.
That's not even a problem when you find so many Royal weapons late game that you're constantly using them just to make space in your inventory, even with the weapons inventory fully maxed.
>the legendary sword made to destroy evil is relegated to the fodder weapon and farming materials
Bad system
I think what bothered me the most was the Champions' weapons both being breakable and weaker than late game weapons, they eventually only served as house decorations because Royal and Lynel weapons were far superior.
At least they're all better in TotK where the weapon power curve is lowered such that 30-40 might sits at the high end of base power.
It's legendary because it repairs itself.
Also certain enemies were extremely vulnerable to it. Making it fit very well into games formula which allows one shotting almost all enemies by using the right tools.
Good system, but you're too moronic to comprehend it
>It's legendary because it repairs itself
It’s never had to repair itself before, secondary
>Also certain enemies were extremely vulnerable to it. Making it fit very well into games formula which allows one shotting almost all enemies by using the right tools.
Said damage bonus is outclassed by multiple other weapons that become abundant in large numbers by the time you can get the Master Sword anyway, another issue with the system.
>Good system, but you're too moronic to comprehend it
You gays will defend anything, the Master Sword being reduced to a harvesting tool is one of the most criticized aspects of the new games even among fans
TotK was the perfect opportunity to give another shot at making it a stand out weapon without needing to have it recharge and they didn’t even have the courtesy to carry over the extended charge on it from the DLC
It’s definitely the worst fantasy trope next to “the gods are just as flawed and human as us!”
You mean the historical premise of many religions?
also I’m trans and autistic btw
This is because the Japanese have a different idea of what Gods are.
Kami can be the world, some tree, or some philosopher or warrior who ascended, they are all fallible.
better than the contradictory YAWEH who creates Adam and Eve who he knows will betray him and then kicks them out of the Garden of Eden.
acts which highlight he created a flawed narrative on purpose just to frick with them.
it's not just the Japanese
literally everyone but the Judaic religions saw the gods as being very human in how they acted
This is because Judaism is a very resentful faith that is mostly built around convincing yourself you're winning when you're losing.
Everything had to be known and planned out so in the end you win over your enemies.
>inb4 Ragnarork
Odin could act "human" and know how the world ends because he sacrificed his eye.
how did the Egyptians build the pyramids
with extreme slavery
I mean, its not really a fantasy thing, its most likely fact. There are records of people going into the labyrinth under the Egyptian pyramids and talking about florescent lights and moving statues.
The really fricking moronic thing that annoys me is that these ancient advanced civilizations are always depicted with modern things but with glowing lights everywhere. Its really fricking gay and uncreative.
They didnt have slaves build the pyramids. Most of it was volunteers. If you ever actually went to the pyramids, the notion that those massive stones were moved by pullies and ropes and came from quarries hundreds of miles away immediately goes out the window.
>drinking a crisp Surge in the hot Egyptian sun while sandboarding down the half-way built pyramids and doing some sick kickflips
>just another day in EXTREME slavery
>take out my lunchable and surge for lunch in kindergarten
>teacher tells me dont bring surge to school every day
>lmao what's surge i can't read
believe it or not, israelites were never enslaved in Egypt, its a complete fiction.
The Bible is fake? Masaka!
Slowly
It has the best dungeon of the game by far. The rest of the DLC is filler, like 90% of BotW.
The motorcycle is pretty fricking cool, but chances are that you have nothing to do after getting it. So almost as useless as not getting it.
>motorcycle
>super-advanced tech
You should see the underground towers
i mean you can teleport the thing around
I dunno man, have you seen the engine on that thing, it can convert literally anything into electricity.
What do you mean "gaming"? This is exactly what renaissance folks thought happened during the middle ages.
Its the best trope in gaming, homosexual.
You know that it has a basis in real life, right? Ever heard of Roman concrete? Greek fire? The Antikythera mechanism? The Bagdad Batteries?
they figured out roman concrete pretty recently. amazing it took so long.
zelda is dead. it's soulless slop now.
stay far away.
It is, unless they're actually alive like Metroid's Chozo, then it's kino
its pretty kino
song starts well but gets boring fast
wish it was energetic the whole way through
>tfw my botw map % is still stuck at 99.18% even though I have all the koroks and went all over the map
frick frick frick
I was stuck at 99.9% because of that one abandoned village in Death Mountain because named places count towards completion
It's sad the game gives no hint in what region you might be missing something. I still need 0.17%.
You can look through a location list online and find what you are missing.
>they are just le gone
>they are gone because le hubris of man
what's worse?
what is up with japs and planet of the apes civilizations anyway?
“They’re just gone” is worse on a general story basis but “Gone because hubris of man” is still bad because of how obnoxious it is
>actually there is an future civilization with super advanced tech who sent it back in time for you!!!
name one (1) game that does this
>we still can't get roman concrete quite right so literally every modern building and road is inferior to ancient architecture
>we still don't know how to make damascus steel
>the USA can't pass any new safety standards like they did for seatbelts due to the political climate
>the USA can't make another grand piece of infrastructure like the interstate highway due to the political climate, much less maintain the existing one
>the USA will never complete another feat of human ingenuity like the moon landing due to the political climate
the dark ages and lost knowledge are real
The US will land on the moon again this decade moron
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemis_program
That's due to everything being replaced with pajeets and thirdies. The tech industry quality is plummeting every day.
Roman Concrete is a circumstantial thing. It's dogshit quality when fresh but strengthens significantly with age. It could not support modern strength demands.
The Romans did not known this, it is purely happenstance that their concrete unironically ages into super concrete.
>you only get the bike after you finish the game
wtf
bigger asspull is zelda trapping ganon for 100 years
She was just taking care of his needs.
Why did it need to be 100 years anyway?
That's how long it takes for the healing spring that can cure even fatal wounds to heal.
She was keeping his pork sausage trapped in her upside down triforce. Every time he tried to escape and destroy Hyrule she would leg lock him until he NUTS.
>>lol actually there was an ancient civilization with super advanced tech who are just le gone now haha!!!
This is reality.
photoshopped pictures
>no dood they made those building purely out of plaster
dont research the Crystal Palace btw
considering the direction of our current timeline, it doesn't seem that dumb to me
b***h i'm in a zelda thread i don't want to get a fricking erection
Scrapped Princess was cool
>is this the worst trope in gaming?
no?
obviously not?
its a commom fantasy cliche, its not really bad and it doesnt even have frickall to do with gaming
worst trope would be something like status spells that aren't damage or healing being useless. Things like status effects never working or being worth using in RPGs. Its fricking shit
The worst trope is
>Thousands of years ago our ancestors fought with sword and shield, just like we do today!
Like, Black person, look at our own history. Look how far our military capabilities have come since the inception of our country to now. In the last 250 years we've gone from musket and firing lines to drone strikes and lobbing missiles and rockets. We barely see our enemy nowadays. But you're telling me this fantasy world for thousand, if not thousands, of years have not advanced past the medieval age technology?
Literally Fire Emblem.
Dunno, haven't played it.
I'm not talking about Zelda in particular, just in general. Many franchises use Medieval Stasis and it drives me bonkers.
The best example would be FE Awakening, supposedly it happens 2000 years after the events of the very first game, Shadow Dragon, yet everything is virtually exactly the same as back then with no technological advancement whatsoever. I want to believe it's because of the easy access to magic and actual divine blessings, and it reminds me to one of the conversations in Heroes where Miriel, an Awakening scholar currently studying gravity, goes into depression after being told that our character, an OC that came from the real world, comes from a world where that concept is already law and it's fully studied, only to later find out that the MC can't use the most basic of magic because magic doesn't really exist in our world, so she decides to continue her research.
To be fair, there is an ancient evil sealed under the castle that periodically leaks enough evil to cause an apocalyptic event that resets civilization back to the stone age.
>went from bows and trebuchet to guns and rockets
The only real change is that now our rocks can go boom
Look at warfare in the year 1000 BC and then compare it to the year 1000 AD. Yeah, there were a lot of advancements even back then, but most of human history was focused on close quarters combat.
Fable solved this to an extent
Too bad all the games past 1 are shit
2 isn't the best?
we used swords and spears for thousands of years in the real world, it's only very recently that tech started progressing rapidly
Medieval gear was fundamentally the same as Roman gear, Romans were using essentially bronze age shit but made of iron, the bronze age civilizations just made better versions of the same shit people already had
TOTK reveals that there was an ancient ancient civilization even more advanced lol.
It’s even more moronic than that since TotK is supposedly after all the other games which also had a more advanced Hyrule in SS
Fujibayashi is a one trick pony
I think maybe the Zonai tech is supposed to be the same ancient robot tech you see in Skyward Sword?
That doesn’t make sense, TotK flashback Hyrule isn’t as advanced as pre-SS Hyrule is depicted as and it brings up a ton of questions regarding things like how the Zonai and the sky people of Skyloft are connected or why the Zonai were absent from SS
I would've taken
>there were these sky islands and there was even more advanced/different Sheikah tech on them that was just left there because, uhhh
over any of that Zonai stuff, really.
It's quality content but is entirely made out of recycling what is already there. More shrines, a survival gauntlet utilizing the same enemies and type of environments, boss refights, etc. The only truly new things is 1 boss, its divine beast style dungeon, the motorcycle, and all the little extras like armors and teleporting horse. The new cutscenes are nice but you can just watch those online.
nintendo japs went to mexico and guatemala to study the mayans so in this case no, is compeltely justified mayans are kino and mysterious as frick.
for me, its post-apocalyptic settings
instant cringe
Outer Wilds did it best
Depends
Harry Potter rules because as soon as they found magic they just stopped advancing in so many areas because they used magic as a crutch for all their problems. They still live in huts and castles.
The zonai weapons are so ugly
If Zelda could just walk around why did she never just chill with Link?
She was busy banging Ganon.
That's the sussy baka zelda ganon created to make her look bad.
thats even more reason to make her romance link like trans aku in samurai jack
ENTER
If you ever being to Russia the notion that this (around 1500 tones) stone was moved using pullies and ropes goes out of the window.
Also most stones came from a quarry literally a few hundred meters from the pyramid
It qas great in Prince of Nothing series. Non-men were much better than humans but they made a deal with space demons for immortality but the space demons fricked them over and caused all women to die if they became pregnant, so all that was left were the men that lived forever, and were then taken over by ancient humans.
why is there no dlc for totk
They gave up.
What could they add as DLC? The main game has a ton of shit to find already.
Officially they said they have no need, it's complete already
Love how morons who never had a historical education past highschool will sit there like hmmm yeah everyone agrees that there were le secret magic civs 500000 years ago and that the pyramids are le fake and not pulled from le stone quarries because i think its true. so fricking stupid.
you gonna reply to him or are you gonna be a passive aggressive homosexual?
It's my favorite trope.
KINO
Reminder that Nintendo deleted the motorcycle from TOTK because it would remind you how lame player-built vehicles are in comparison.
flying bike is better tho
You can make far more useful vehicles tho so your reminder is moronic.
Hell, the most basic vehicle (two fans and a steering wheel) is basically the motorbike on crack. You're fricking stupid
>Hell, the most basic vehicle (two fans and a steering wheel) is basically the motorbike on crack
Oh yeah, of course, because moving at 5 feet per second and ascending at 30 feet per minute is like the most radical experience in the world.
No TOTK vehicle has the agility and maneuverability of a BOTW bike. They're all super slow and clumsy. And the more you try to fix this problem, the more zonaites you'll spend, and zonaites are earned through time. You need to use up your real life time grinding resources to build slow and stupid vehicles.
cope flightlet
Sky Atlantis with large dragons and death beasts
I fricking love Farum Azula
how did the sheikah went from pic related and guillotines to giant mechas and teleporting motorcycles?
offscreen science magic
dont ask just consoom
Why didn't the Zonai use any of their technology during the Imprisoning "War"?
How the frick did Ruafo not see Ganondorf standing 15 meters away from him? The homie has three eyes.
Are you stupid
I don't know.
>Why didn't the Zonai use any of their technology during the Imprisoning "War"?
The timeline of events regarding the Zonai is all over the place, there’s ruins all over Hyrule that shouldn’t be where they are since logically they would’ve been made either when Rauru and Mineru were the last two left or after both of them died. Them ignoring the tech is perfectly in line with the rest of the problems the story presents
since they went and made a botw sequel it doesn't really make sense
Sure it did, they introduced the double ancient double advanced civilization who made the ancient technology that the next ancient civilization discovered and reverse engineered to create their own ancient technology.
And just in time too since that second civilization programmed all their tech to completely cease to exist without a trace after the hero defeated the calamity.
>thousands of years old tech works just fine and the complex structure hosting it is intact
it would be moronic if it didnt work like why even add it
All good video games place gameplay over story. If the story doesn't facilitate the new gameplay then it will be changed and that's a good thing since we got an adventure game with unique mechanics out of it.
I love that fricking trope like you wouldn't believe.
Is there any game set DURING the ancient civilization
Final Fantasy XVI kinda.
Yeah it's really stupid.
Same thing with female Mary sues. It's tiring.
>Ancient advanced civilization
>Catastrophe wipes them out
>Hardier tech is all that's left
Easy.
it disappeared because it fulfilled its purpose :))
Aonuma destroyed this series he even named Wind Waker after his own garage band KEK
>ancient technology is superior to newer technology built on top of it
who comes up with this shit?
frick forgot the picture
>Hyrule has had zero to little technological progress in over 1000 years since space goat founded Hyrule.
>it's not magic, it's advanced ancient technology
cringe
>it's technology that can harness and control magic with more efficiency than any living mage
based
>Setting where drawings of runes and shit invoke magic properties
>The machines use spinning discs, rings, plates and other parts to create different runes, sigils and seals
Like with almost all tropes, it depends on execution.
>fantasy medieval setting world
>it's later revealed that the game happens in year 4000 and in the past it was originally the same as our world as it is today irl
Any other games that do this beside Nier and Xenoblade?
Chrono Trigger kind of, if you count the Zeal Era as super advanced.
