Oh, 5 is the worst one? I've been playing it for just under 2 seasons and enjoying the upgrade/completionist treadmill. I figured the combat and cutscene quality was par for the series. The boys weren't even that gay except for the architect's apprentice.
People prefer 4 much more. 1, 2, 3 are good but not nearly as deep gameplay wise. And they are DS games. 3 is getting an rerelease on Switch in a month.
Fricking wish there was a Rune Factory modding community bros, there's so much custom shit for Stardew Valley and the like but nobody's ever stepped up to add the milf routes these games have skimped on since day one
It's because Rune Factory modding is basically relegated to superficial stuff like changing portraits. You'd have to figure out how to make more invasive changes on top of all the original writing and art assets you'd need to add an entirely new romance route.
the main reason it sucked was because most of the people that worked there moved on after the studio close after rf4 and when the studio reopened due to it's success they were basically bare minimum or inexperienced staff

The abysmal performance of the Switch version soured a lot of people even if the game had potential. However even the PC version chugs. Content wise it's just a massive downgrade in every way compared to 3 and 4. The best girl also required you to complete 60% of the game just to appear.
The best Rune Factory is actually Frontier, but at the cost of having to use an unoffical cheat code to fix the Runey system or remove it altogether. On an emulator upscaled it looks pretty damn amazing for an old ass Wii game.
they aren't THAT bad but unless you look up shit that's never explained ingame like how to run a grass runey factory chances are you are gonna end up bricking it
when I played I had notebook with a runey chart and kept track of them and how many take from an area into another weekly, that's a lot of extra work that wouldn't be needed if they made grass runeys actually eat rock ones and close the fricking food chain
