Soldier has limitations when having a medic with him. He can't rocketjump without abandoning his healer. For heavy having a medic is a straight upgrade to his capabilities. More importantly a lot of strats for dealing with regular medic combos don't work with heavy because they involve getting close to the medic which is a death sentence when that involves getting close to the heavy.

SMG god here, what's it like to lose fights against scouts?
I've found the best utility the SMG can provide is actually for killing sentries. Tracking scouts in your face well enough for quickscopes is very difficult, but possible. However, the sniper rifles simply can't compete for sustain damage to buildings, when you can't target the engineer himself.

No item should cancel out the primary weapon of a another class. A sniper who gets ambushed by a pyro should have minimal chances to survive that fight and not slowly switches to his melee weapon and win that fight.

DDS reduces all fire damage by 50%. Even assuming you had a crit shot, you're only dealing 45 damage with no afterburn to that sniper.
Scorch shot should never have been an ez mode detonator
It should have been an incendiary cannon primary, with more damage and being able to combo it with shotgun/flare
the real strength of the scorch shot (aside from braindead choke point spam, which is as braindead with the detonator), and what makes people seethe the most, is the knockback + second explosion you get from landing direct flares, and that requires aim + prediction, much like the regular flare gun. It's not that much of an easy mode.
hitting terrain gives you an explosion that ignites players and deletes stickies, which is all that you really want out of it if you're just looking to be annoying or charge phlog
With the detonator you need to time the explosion to get that

Scorch Shot should've been something that lays up to 3 napalm mines on the ground at a time. No manual detonation, lasts for 1 minute each, ignites any enemy who walks over one

That's the core of the problem though, most classes have to just avoid interacting with his sightlines while they wait for someone to countersnipe. Plenty of classes let good players farm kills in public servers, but Sniper is uniquely poisonous in his impact on the game.

Even the recent summer update that "brought the game back to life" is entierly built from the community and has zero whatsoever work from Valve.
Some random impersonator had to do all the voice work for the new VSH gamemode that's how much they do not give a frick about this game Valve feels.
To be fair, the class voice actors are all approaching their 60s-80s so they can't exactly voice the classes themselves for the VSH lines. I know you're mainly referring to Saxton though

Pyro really only has two primaries and two secondaries for me, those being stock for both along with Phlog and Scorch. Using any of the four depends on the situation/map but they're all good and they accomplish everything Pyro needs to do depending on the circumstance
Nah, Detonator > Jetpack. Much quicker and more practical mobility, and still leaves you with a secondary weapon to poke with.
Both force you to actually use flames as a primary weapon though so they're both inferior to Shotgun.
Jetpack feels like shit because of the terrible switch speed, and compared to shotty/other flares detonator can reliably deal damage in any situation. Once you git gud at airbursting it's like being able to spawn mini DoT explosions wherever you want, you constantly hear hear half of the enemy team burning.
Jetpack feels great to use as a suicide run when you need to get somewhere fast and to hurt as many things as possible with a Backburner
With the default Flamethrower i like to use Flare Guns for versatility
With the Dragons Fury I like Detonators and the Scorch Shot for jumping and reliable afterburn
And the shotgun fits everywhere except the Phlog, you got a pairing for nearly every weapon there

It’s an explosive flare gun that deals a deceptively large amount of damage if you’re caught by both hits + afterburn
People mostly hate it though because it’s very easy to spam down a fight and light everyone on fire for cheap + knockback, and with the Phlogistinator (a flamethrower that gives you guaranteed crits if you deal enough fire damage) it’s the favorite sidearm to use with it
It messes with Snipers the most because it’s decently fast + explosive + deals fire damage to throw off their aim

It's not bad but back hitboxes are already unreliable so you're makin your airblasts cost a frick of a lot for worse reliable crits than the phlog which is just meh. It's alright that it exists but there's not much to say about it

it's technically better than stock when it does work despite the higher airblast cost but if you're good at airblasting it shouldn't be a issue anyways
The hit detection for back burning is EXTREMELY strict, airblasts are prohibitively expensive, and unlike spy and scout, pyro has no way to actually get into a position behind people to take advantage of it other than walk there at normal speed and hope he doesn't run into any enemies before he's in position, which is the main problem the weapon has always had.

Sentries have a hidden weakness which is their low turning speed. Good flankers can take advantage of this by attacking from behind. I've killed lots of engineers with level 3 sentries as a scout that way.
Why do items drop so infrequently? I played probably 2 and a half hours today and got a single item. I haven't played TF2 in honestly like a decade so there are so many new weapons I'd like to try out but it seems unlikely I'll get many without playing for hundreds of more hours.

I'm used to it since I've played since release and the game never shipped with Pyro being able to airblast. That was added months later. Also, I use the jetpack, so there's nothing else I can do lol.
You can still run away and using corner and props to cut the flamethrower from yourself
And using your max full speed it also help you reach either teamates or zone you couldn't see
I personally like to pepper people with the detonator until I'm close enough for flamethrower damage and, hp permitting, detojump over them and buttburn them to death. The weapon's like, fine in my opinion.

Scorch shot is the only flare gun that's useful at long range, which was the intended purpose of the flare gun, and the flare gun is only useful for combos.
The two weapons don't even fill the same niche.
Maybe on Payload maps SS is kind of better, but you're still better off with Flare, because you're going to be pushing regardless, so the range doesn't matter all that much.
The range is a good deterrent for people just shooting you down from outside of flamethrower range, which was always one of pyros weaknesses. It's especially helpful for deterring snipers.
Deto's a funny weapon for dealing with soldiers and demomen. You ever detonate one directly over their heads mid-jump and send directly to hell, killing them with fall damage?

The point of having red and blue teams is that they're opposite colors which are easy and quick to differentiate. Yellow is treated as a mostly neutral color (look at Engi's helmet or glove). Team colored orange/yellow works on items that are relatively small, but when the item covers the entire body it becomes much harder to distinguish between orange and yellow on a whim, they're too similar

Sniper is just poorly designed and has never belonged in this game. He is the only class that can engage at long range and is never punished for missing (unless when fighting another sniper). Because of that there is very little real counterplay and he can put out a ton of pressure without taking any risks whatsoever. Usually all you can do when faced with one is go another way or pray that the he is shit and will miss. Also the least mechanically complex/interesting class in the game.
You can't really fix this. I wish they'd at least give him reverse damage fall off so that you can't get flick'd for 150 at close range.

Can someone give an idea of when to best use the cloak and dagger? Whenever I use it I barely contribute anything to the game, unlike with stock watch where I'm very proactive and actually having an impact on the game
C&D is good at letting you set up that one important stab, feed your team information over mic, and camp important areas when there's not much distance to cover (think enemy spawns, or the area just behind a choke the enemy has to get through). Of those things, only the 3rd usually matters in a pub, so the stock watch is generally better for the exact reason you describe.
You should use it like Stock but when you’re escaping use the props around you. Almost no one checks if you’re ever in a crate or random rock.

The C&D has less range of motion by nature, so you don't get to juke and use the damage resistance quite as much. On the other hand, a lot of times one of the best things you can do with either watch is to double back after your cloak flashes and stand somewhere they think they've already checked, and the C&D lets you just sit there regaining cloak when that works.
You can also try using C&D with the L'Etranger, it almost completely cancels out the extra cloak drain of the C&D.
C&D is fun if you just want to sit in your enemies backline and frick with them. Its great for messing with engi's and ruining their day by constantly destroying their tele.

Soldier has limitations when having a medic with him. He can't rocketjump without abandoning his healer. For heavy having a medic is a straight upgrade to his capabilities. More importantly a lot of strats for dealing with regular medic combos don't work with heavy because they involve getting close to the medic which is a death sentence when that involves getting close to the heavy.

I've found the best utility the SMG can provide is actually for killing sentries. Tracking scouts in your face well enough for quickscopes is very difficult, but possible. However, the sniper rifles simply can't compete for sustain damage to buildings, when you can't target the engineer himself.

No item should cancel out the primary weapon of a another class. A sniper who gets ambushed by a pyro should have minimal chances to survive that fight and not slowly switches to his melee weapon and win that fight.

DDS reduces all fire damage by 50%. Even assuming you had a crit shot, you're only dealing 45 damage with no afterburn to that sniper.

the real strength of the scorch shot (aside from braindead choke point spam, which is as braindead with the detonator), and what makes people seethe the most, is the knockback + second explosion you get from landing direct flares, and that requires aim + prediction, much like the regular flare gun. It's not that much of an easy mode.
hitting terrain gives you an explosion that ignites players and deletes stickies, which is all that you really want out of it if you're just looking to be annoying or charge phlog
With the detonator you need to time the explosion to get that

Someone's never played the game before. b***h how the frick do you go behind an entire team. Not every map is loaded with good flanking options and in a game where the OBJECTIVE is usually the thing your team wants to focus on, the logistics of co-ordinating a push or dedicated effort to remove ONE Sniper just isn't worth it. What if you're Engineer and need to focus on your buildings? What if you're Heavy and need to focus on your team? What if you're Medic and you need to focus on patients? Snipers are the biggest gays in the game because they assume everyone needs to bend to THEIR shitty playstyle in order to actually enjoy the game but the reality is every single match is more enjoyable when everyone is just actually in the action and on equal footing. An Amby Spy can take a Soldier no problem. A Pyro can take a Demoknight no problem. Heavy always loses against the gay parked on the opposite end of the map not actually playing the game because he has zero means of approach or ways to fight back. Yeah no, I don't HAVE to run off the point to exclusively focus down your ass and kill you in seconds because you can't actually play the game and crumple like tissue paper under actual pressure.
a single sniper can't shut down an entire match, unless your entire team is careless enough to just run into sightlines without looking out for enemies. you always have the option to ask your teams scout/spy/sniper/roamer soldier to go kill him. use your words. the only reason sniper gets kills is because you aren't aware of him. take measures to search out snipers so you are aware of him, then apply your knowledge and take an alternate route, use your movement and frick up his aim, do something other than just running directly into his line of sight without a care in a world time after time. do you also take the same path to the point every time you respawn?

Pyro really only has two primaries and two secondaries for me, those being stock for both along with Phlog and Scorch. Using any of the four depends on the situation/map but they're all good and they accomplish everything Pyro needs to do depending on the circumstance

If you want movement, pick the jetpack. If you want raw damage, pick literally anything else except Detonator.
Nah, Detonator > Jetpack. Much quicker and more practical mobility, and still leaves you with a secondary weapon to poke with.
Both force you to actually use flames as a primary weapon though so they're both inferior to Shotgun.
Jetpack feels like shit because of the terrible switch speed, and compared to shotty/other flares detonator can reliably deal damage in any situation. Once you git gud at airbursting it's like being able to spawn mini DoT explosions wherever you want, you constantly hear hear half of the enemy team burning.
Jetpack feels great to use as a suicide run when you need to get somewhere fast and to hurt as many things as possible with a Backburner
With the default Flamethrower i like to use Flare Guns for versatility
With the Dragons Fury I like Detonators and the Scorch Shot for jumping and reliable afterburn
And the shotgun fits everywhere except the Phlog, you got a pairing for nearly every weapon there

People mostly hate it though because it’s very easy to spam down a fight and light everyone on fire for cheap + knockback, and with the Phlogistinator (a flamethrower that gives you guaranteed crits if you deal enough fire damage) it’s the favorite sidearm to use with it
It messes with Snipers the most because it’s decently fast + explosive + deals fire damage to throw off their aim

It's not bad but back hitboxes are already unreliable so you're makin your airblasts cost a frick of a lot for worse reliable crits than the phlog which is just meh. It's alright that it exists but there's not much to say about it

backburner barely works these days which is why people don't b***h about it
it's technically better than stock when it does work despite the higher airblast cost but if you're good at airblasting it shouldn't be a issue anyways
The hit detection for back burning is EXTREMELY strict, airblasts are prohibitively expensive, and unlike spy and scout, pyro has no way to actually get into a position behind people to take advantage of it other than walk there at normal speed and hope he doesn't run into any enemies before he's in position, which is the main problem the weapon has always had.
Also the back burning is the weapon's only benefit, so any time you're not doing that it's a straight downgrade to stock, and because of the extremely strict attack angle required, even if you are doing it, it still tends to be a straight downgrade to stock.
only git gud with the jetpack, practice in every map as you would do it with rocket jump. Backburner relies in the speed of the pyro.
I wish they gave it a unique secondary fire that'd help Pyro actually get behind people instead of airblast as a lazy compromise

Nah cl_interp 5 just gives you half a second of delay, doesn't help with stabs at all that's just what cheaters spread around to cover themselves

Sentries have a hidden weakness which is their low turning speed. Good flankers can take advantage of this by attacking from behind. I've killed lots of engineers with level 3 sentries as a scout that way.

I'm used to it since I've played since release and the game never shipped with Pyro being able to airblast. That was added months later. Also, I use the jetpack, so there's nothing else I can do lol.

There's literally no reason to use the Scorch Shot over the Flare gun.
Scorch shot is the only flare gun that's useful at long range, which was the intended purpose of the flare gun, and the flare gun is only useful for combos.
The two weapons don't even fill the same niche.
Maybe on Payload maps SS is kind of better, but you're still better off with Flare, because you're going to be pushing regardless, so the range doesn't matter all that much.
The range is a good deterrent for people just shooting you down from outside of flamethrower range, which was always one of pyros weaknesses. It's especially helpful for deterring snipers.
Deto's a funny weapon for dealing with soldiers and demomen. You ever detonate one directly over their heads mid-jump and send directly to hell, killing them with fall damage?
I use scorch for clearing stickies, flare cannot do that.

The point of having red and blue teams is that they're opposite colors which are easy and quick to differentiate. Yellow is treated as a mostly neutral color (look at Engi's helmet or glove). Team colored orange/yellow works on items that are relatively small, but when the item covers the entire body it becomes much harder to distinguish between orange and yellow on a whim, they're too similar
I don't care what bullshit you're on, Blue Yellow will never be mistakable with Red Orange

Sniper is just poorly designed and has never belonged in this game. He is the only class that can engage at long range and is never punished for missing (unless when fighting another sniper). Because of that there is very little real counterplay and he can put out a ton of pressure without taking any risks whatsoever. Usually all you can do when faced with one is go another way or pray that the he is shit and will miss. Also the least mechanically complex/interesting class in the game.
You can't really fix this. I wish they'd at least give him reverse damage fall off so that you can't get flick'd for 150 at close range.

The only real issue with sniper is his unlocks like the Razorback and Bushwacka removing his biggest counters and weaknesses. Rework/remove those, and maybe give each rifle tracers like the classic, and he's fine. Most of the people who seethe about snipers are just shitters though.

How do I get good at Dragon pyro? I wasn’t having any fun with the class until I tried it, but it feels like half of the time I fricking rip butthole open and the other time my puffs don’t aren’t connecting despite moving directly through the opponent
Try your best to aim the "center" of the fireball onto the enemy, because if you don't you don't get the extra damage

Can someone give an idea of when to best use the cloak and dagger? Whenever I use it I barely contribute anything to the game, unlike with stock watch where I'm very proactive and actually having an impact on the game
You’ve answered your own question, just use stock
C&D is good at letting you set up that one important stab, feed your team information over mic, and camp important areas when there's not much distance to cover (think enemy spawns, or the area just behind a choke the enemy has to get through). Of those things, only the 3rd usually matters in a pub, so the stock watch is generally better for the exact reason you describe.

The C&D has less range of motion by nature, so you don't get to juke and use the damage resistance quite as much. On the other hand, a lot of times one of the best things you can do with either watch is to double back after your cloak flashes and stand somewhere they think they've already checked, and the C&D lets you just sit there regaining cloak when that works.
You can also try using C&D with the L'Etranger, it almost completely cancels out the extra cloak drain of the C&D.
You should use it like Stock but when you’re escaping use the props around you. Almost no one checks if you’re ever in a crate or random rock.
C&D is fun if you just want to sit in your enemies backline and frick with them. Its great for messing with engi's and ruining their day by constantly destroying their tele.
