A good deck is rogue at its best. Playable, but nothing that will take the meta by storm. A great deck is a strong rogue deck that has proven itself to perform very well in the current meta. An excellent deck is meta (duh). This isn't hard to understand.
Snake-Eye did not impact the meta prior to Poplar. The Sinful Spoils engine, however, did because it made already great decks like Rescue-ACE and Tearlament even better.
This was the meta right before Chaos Ruler was banned and Tearlament was finally killed off once and for all. Snake-Eye wasn't doing shit.

Called by the Grave is an auto-include at 2 and Ash is still a very popular handtrap thanks to the brand name. All banning Maxx C does is simply remove a bullshit handtrap floodgate from the game. Ideally, all three floodgate handtraps should be banned including Droll. People have now realized that it's worth the risk of running into a deck that can play under it because it's a blowout card against so many decks.
In both formats Unchained was competing with Tearlaments which is the superior GY deck, Unchained also struggles with Shifter decks which is why Floo won one of the YCS against it.
Don't forget that in MD Circular is at fricking 3, Mathmech was alredy gimped by the time Unchained came out

For Tearlament, it was Jet Synchron. For Fire King, it was Ponix. For D-Link, it was Black Metal Dragon. There was no "Snake-Eye" proper in the deck during AGOV.

I don't play Snake-Eye, but I do play Rescue-ACE, so I still use Prisoner Princess a lot. She's a boss monster that is an extender when she's on the field, and a disruption when she's in the grave. Prisoner Princess is so good in fact that she even occasionally finds her way into non-fire decks since you don't actually need any fire monsters to summon her. You just have to link her off before making other plays.
The really important part is that Promethean is a disruption from the grave. She can't be board broken or negated so there's no efficient answer to her.

Man, what should I be running in Lab at this point? I see people debating running 1-2 or 2-3 or just straight up 3 Arias. Also, the decks get increasingly trap-free. Like aside from the Welcomes, Transaction and maybe a Daruma/Imperm it's like Lab decks don't even fricking run traps anymore.

Handtrap spam isn't fun. Getting Maxx C'd, Ashed, Veiler'd and Nibbed on my turn 1 and then Maxx C'd again on turn 3 by chinks isn't fun.
Handtraps were a mistake.
They are a cool idea but each should be at one to prevent the spam.

That's why people hate the downplayers. Konami literally CAN'T unban anything in the deck. They could afford to fully ban all of the Ishizu cards AND kitkat.
