I don't think UCT woud be bannable in any era of YGO. Prior to the 2017 Dino support, a monster like UCT would be too hard to summon and too vulnerable to generic removal. And after the support targeted effect negation became stapes in every deck, making it extremely easy to cuck UCT.

Invalidates most targeting handtraps like Veiler and Imperm, also helps dodge Evenly and Nibiru.
S:P is strong on her own as a generic removal/disruption piece but is crazy in decks that synergize well with her, like Bystials. It's similar to how nutty Linkuriboh was because it synergized so perfectly with all the Snake-Eyes cards.
I played Dark Magician because you had both a searchable HFD with Dark Magic Attack, and Souls pitches the Skill Drain for draws. And DM himself doesn't care about Skill Drain.
Playing DM had me realize that I never paid attention to how the deck worked. I thought Eternal Soul summoned DM from the deck. Turns out it summons him from the Hand or GY.
If you want a cheesy blind second deck you can play Qliphort. Draw cards, equip spells such as Mage Power, Summoner's Art to search for Monolith + Scout, board breakers, and you're good. There are also monsters such as Beast King Barbaros, Chainsaw Insect, and Majestic Mech - Ohka that can be normal summoned with no drawback under Skill Drain if you need space to fill.

the deck has many consistency options: pot of e and p remain 2 easy slot ins, so are nadir servants and small world (kurikara, lava golem just so happen to be perfect searchers for the deck), which serve to reach your nem / sweet dreams (which are 6 cards in your deck so you should have no problem drawing them to begin with).
i don't think consistency is the problem the deck faces, really. it's the fact it has trouble breaking boards going second, unless it goes hard on go second, which is... fine, i guess? but very flawed against decks with insane recursion (ie s-e, lab, branded) and going first, its board is unimpressive and usually barely enough to survive to turn 3 if it does.
what the deck needs really are ways to have a better board presence beyond the two traps (which have unremarkable effects, mind you) so it can survive a turn, because the payoff remains so insane it is guaranteed to win if it goes off.

To be fair Floow is the more tasteful version of Dinomorphia because floow actually interacts with you and allows counter-play to its floodgate. Meanwhile Dinomorphia is just a hard floodgate turbo deck that's trying to cheese you and interact with you as little as possible.
I'm not downplaying snake eyes. I'm pointing out how flamberge himself is not a crazy boss monster, especially compared to those other monsters with way more extreme extension ability. Flamberge is only good because of what the rest of the deck does.

The OCG is arguably the only meta that had a weaker format compared to POTE bullshit. Despite having access to Horus and Chaos Ruler, their Tear builds were worse than MD's current. The best deck was Rescue Ace which had an enboard of pop and imperm. So scary.
The TCG went from a tier 0 to an unsolved format, then got Snake-Eyes.

SP Little Knight is coming who can refresh Beast after banishing it, you can also use Poly on Beast with KotS to make Exterio
The main advantage of the negated Beast is it's a turbo mill engine for Tearaments. Beast can chain to any spell, even if it's negated, and mill 2 cards, which while not a card effect lets you dig for rollbacks and other GY goodstuff
You can use droplets and the usual stuff to dump, you can't just do it immediately with links or any other bullshit like other decks.
But it kinda irks me that pend support is all over the place without any coherency. Don't help that konami insist that dumping shit on ED is good despite MR changes.

Synchro decks are limited by the power of what they're summoning.
Synchron is unique in that it can be built to hit any level and any monster it wants, but even with that access pure Synchros just aren't good compared to using a select few alongside other ED monsters.
Resonator hits 85% of the power of Synchron with way more consistency and less susceptibilite to disruption. It's way better.
PUNK shit is really good at getting to handtraps. Handtraps are better than on field negates, especially if you can spam a bunch of them behind a decent board.

Manko is slang for pussy in Japanese. But Mikan is how they refer to a mandarin orange in Japanese, which also explains why the cards have a lot of visual references to citrus or orange slices. A miko is the term for a religious Japanese woman who tends to a shrine, typically dedicated to a Kami or god/powerful spirit. Oohime is that spirit. So the Mikan Mikos, or just Mikankos for short, are girls possessed by a citrus fruit spirit.
Most Yugioh archetypes are really just a portmanteau or pun of two distinct concepts mashed together. Like how Kozmo is Star Wars and the Wizard of Oz, PUNK is cyberpunk and traditional art, Centurion is mecha anime and roman soldiers, etc etc.

Yeah a lot of yugioh cards get really shit localizations (Insert Mekk-Knight Avram flavor text here) but I do have some sympathies just because of how many archetypes are specific Japanese puns or are essentially impossible to translate. Sky Striker is one of my favorite examples because the archetype name is something that literally translates to Quickdraw Sword Princess but in Japanese it sounds the same as the word for fighter plane, and every Link-1 monster is based off a Japanese World War 2 aircraft. There's just no way to accurately translate that, the words don't line up like that in any other language but it's such a core aspect of the archetype's naming convention.

Colossus isn't even summoned with TDF unless you brick, that's a waste of the card.
Thunder Dragons got the same treatment as Adventure, the deck was dumped after 2 waves of support because of what it did to the meta.
But of all the cards that has the potential to break future design, it's the Fusion spell, not the floodgate. Even with the heavy restrictions.
Most decks would benefit way more from a circular, it's hardly a choice.
Poplar needs your deck to already have good searchers for a real payoff, and petdecks are petdecks because they most likely don't.
And if a Poplar is your only power play, a single ash still kills your deck, meanwhile the only handtrap that does anything to Circular is Shifter.
Is there a way to make a Melffys deck other than Spright/Melffy? It hardly looks like a Melfy deck to me. 8 main deck Melffy cards and 2 extra deck Melffys. I am willing to call ZEUS an honorary Melffy and say there are 3 Melffy cards in the extra deck.

It's adapting the East Blue of One Piece, written in 1997, almost 30 years ago. The content back then seems refreshingly retro to audiences sick of ESG bullshit.
Oda and modern, 2024 One Piece are trooned and moronic up the ass just like everything else today.
More to the point, the main problem with the meta, on a player oriented level, is that meta decks get rid of as much RNG as possible, every card searches the next one, every move helps continue the game, even removal lets them keep playing. So you got a lot of people playing with decks that will play effectively a 80% of the times vs the normal decks that needs specific pieces constantly to play, even if said play is overwhelming. It changes the basics of the game by giving a deck a clear advantage every time. People that get used to this constance of play can rarely go back to enjoying the game without this handholding, and fall back to frustration when all they can play against is the same decks from similar people were being guided isn't good enough anymore. instead you'll see them angrily shit on lesser decks because they can't face them on the game anymore, or leaving the game to derank so they can do it again. And that's also why they hop from one meta deck to another. Falling to see a meta deck for what it is (a clear advantage that only plays fairly against its own) and instead putting your personality on it like some console war faction is a cancer that destroys your enjoyability of card games on the long run

All Super Poly did was erase Elf and Carrot, clearing the way for HFD to resolve safely
I used 2 breakers and both resolved successfuly, and used 3 cards out of 6 to clear the board. And he STILL had IP, Red on the board and Ash in hand.
Any other 2 breakers that aren't gimmick shit, you just trade with the Red and Carrot and still can't play through the backrow, Ash and IP

Fenrir's problem was that it was too splashable during Kash meta.
You didn't know if they were going for Unicorn and Normal Summoning it with Birth because they're playing Kash (allowing them to go fll combo), or they were just splashing Fenrir in and it's acting like an Ash sponge.
But if Fenrir is at 2 and Unicorn is at 1, then you don't have to worry about spending your Ash on him, and just ignore it. (though you still have to deal with it because it's a strong interaction)
If you ban Unicorn you can just ignore Fenrir at all times, nothing it searches is going to be a threat because unless pure hard opens theosis, they are not making Arise with a 1st turn Fenrir without a big minus to summon Tearlaments or Scareclaw.
Meanwhile any deck that splashes Fenrir as an engine can brick on multiples.

I don't think UCT woud be bannable in any era of YGO. Prior to the 2017 Dino support, a monster like UCT would be too hard to summon and too vulnerable to generic removal. And after the support targeted effect negation became stapes in every deck, making it extremely easy to cuck UCT.

It's similar to Knightmare Unicorn except instead of discarding for its effect you summon it with an extra deck monster and instead of shuffling back it banishes. Also it can banish itself and another monster in response to any effect your opponent activates. It's pretty cancer.

I played Dark Magician because you had both a searchable HFD with Dark Magic Attack, and Souls pitches the Skill Drain for draws. And DM himself doesn't care about Skill Drain.
Playing DM had me realize that I never paid attention to how the deck worked. I thought Eternal Soul summoned DM from the deck. Turns out it summons him from the Hand or GY.
If you want a cheesy blind second deck you can play Qliphort. Draw cards, equip spells such as Mage Power, Summoner's Art to search for Monolith + Scout, board breakers, and you're good. There are also monsters such as Beast King Barbaros, Chainsaw Insect, and Majestic Mech - Ohka that can be normal summoned with no drawback under Skill Drain if you need space to fill.

Nemrelia was extremely reliant on the pots, and deck that is extremey reliant on generic, unsearchable non-archetype spells is underpowered in an era of hyper consistent 1 card starters, even if said spells provide extreme synergy with the strategy.
A lot of decks like Thunder Dragon, which are jokes in the modern game, stop being so funny once they resolve 1-2 Allure of Darkness. But 7/10 the deck is not a threat at all because the cards do nothing.
the deck has many consistency options: pot of e and p remain 2 easy slot ins, so are nadir servants and small world (kurikara, lava golem just so happen to be perfect searchers for the deck), which serve to reach your nem / sweet dreams (which are 6 cards in your deck so you should have no problem drawing them to begin with).
i don't think consistency is the problem the deck faces, really. it's the fact it has trouble breaking boards going second, unless it goes hard on go second, which is... fine, i guess? but very flawed against decks with insane recursion (ie s-e, lab, branded) and going first, its board is unimpressive and usually barely enough to survive to turn 3 if it does.
what the deck needs really are ways to have a better board presence beyond the two traps (which have unremarkable effects, mind you) so it can survive a turn, because the payoff remains so insane it is guaranteed to win if it goes off.
also forgot to mention to add to my last point: this is why nem lists very often pair it with engines to make it survive that turn:
-zaborg kills the enemy's ed and severely gimps plays
-stunshit is, well, you know what it is
-dogma / albaz engine put up layers of interaction and are extra bodies / traps
(some people experimented with other cards like the wicked avatar but idt they're good ideas to run)

SP Little Knight is coming who can refresh Beast after banishing it, you can also use Poly on Beast with KotS to make Exterio
The main advantage of the negated Beast is it's a turbo mill engine for Tearaments. Beast can chain to any spell, even if it's negated, and mill 2 cards, which while not a card effect lets you dig for rollbacks and other GY goodstuff

Synchron is unique in that it can be built to hit any level and any monster it wants, but even with that access pure Synchros just aren't good compared to using a select few alongside other ED monsters.
Resonator hits 85% of the power of Synchron with way more consistency and less susceptibilite to disruption. It's way better.
PUNK shit is really good at getting to handtraps. Handtraps are better than on field negates, especially if you can spam a bunch of them behind a decent board.

Yeah a lot of yugioh cards get really shit localizations (Insert Mekk-Knight Avram flavor text here) but I do have some sympathies just because of how many archetypes are specific Japanese puns or are essentially impossible to translate. Sky Striker is one of my favorite examples because the archetype name is something that literally translates to Quickdraw Sword Princess but in Japanese it sounds the same as the word for fighter plane, and every Link-1 monster is based off a Japanese World War 2 aircraft. There's just no way to accurately translate that, the words don't line up like that in any other language but it's such a core aspect of the archetype's naming convention.

The Skill Drain event was actual ass holy shit.
I only started in August around the Light vs Dark event, and I never had an event I hated. At most I was indifferent.
But this one was ACTUAL ass. So many opponents opening HFD or just getting rid of Skill Drain (Diabellstar, Magicians' Souls, etc.) instead of playing through it.
There should've been a ban list to prevent this from happening and have people ACTUALLY play the format.

Poplar needs your deck to already have good searchers for a real payoff, and petdecks are petdecks because they most likely don't.
And if a Poplar is your only power play, a single ash still kills your deck, meanwhile the only handtrap that does anything to Circular is Shifter.

It's adapting the East Blue of One Piece, written in 1997, almost 30 years ago. The content back then seems refreshingly retro to audiences sick of ESG bullshit.
Oda and modern, 2024 One Piece are trooned and moronic up the ass just like everything else today.
More to the point, the main problem with the meta, on a player oriented level, is that meta decks get rid of as much RNG as possible, every card searches the next one, every move helps continue the game, even removal lets them keep playing. So you got a lot of people playing with decks that will play effectively a 80% of the times vs the normal decks that needs specific pieces constantly to play, even if said play is overwhelming. It changes the basics of the game by giving a deck a clear advantage every time. People that get used to this constance of play can rarely go back to enjoying the game without this handholding, and fall back to frustration when all they can play against is the same decks from similar people were being guided isn't good enough anymore. instead you'll see them angrily shit on lesser decks because they can't face them on the game anymore, or leaving the game to derank so they can do it again. And that's also why they hop from one meta deck to another. Falling to see a meta deck for what it is (a clear advantage that only plays fairly against its own) and instead putting your personality on it like some console war faction is a cancer that destroys your enjoyability of card games on the long run

But if Fenrir is at 2 and Unicorn is at 1, then you don't have to worry about spending your Ash on him, and just ignore it. (though you still have to deal with it because it's a strong interaction)
If you ban Unicorn you can just ignore Fenrir at all times, nothing it searches is going to be a threat because unless pure hard opens theosis, they are not making Arise with a 1st turn Fenrir without a big minus to summon Tearlaments or Scareclaw.
