Yugioh isn't getting new players because there is no anime. Why isn't Konami doing something about it? Nobody, not a single person, cares about Rush garbage and its trash anime.
They need to actually have a concrete idea of a full story going into it. Even if they did make what you're suggesting, which they should, it'd fall about 1/3 or 1/2 of the way through and become an absolute clusterfrick like it always does. Zexal was strange one out and did it in the reverse. We haven't had a good consistent YGO series since GX, even 5Ds fell apart halfway through (granted that was because of the cult seiyuu shit). But even GX struggled a lot until it got to Supreme King.

I liked the Striker manga but it had a bit of a rushed start and finale. Anything not meant to be purposely short would have set up a lot more and made the final battle a tad longer.

I think World Legacy could make for a pretty solid series in manga / anime / light novel format.
It's already got a "full" story in solo mode, and it's easily the longest (and best) one, and there're plenty of places where you could flesh it out.
It's not retaining returning players either. People who want to summon Blue-Eyes and negate Mirror Force with Seven Tools of the Bandit bounce off the game the second they see what the game is actually played like now.
It's honestly amazing how Konami still just doesn't have a multitude of formats for people to play, rather than them being limited events. Then again the min-max autists will always make things worse for everyone else, regardless of game.
If the game follows its own rules better even the min-maxers can't frick up the game too bad unless the dominant strategy is something really toxic like an FTK or consistent full deck draw. It's a lot easier for a casual to sit across from a top level player and have fun playing Edison with them since the power level is low enough that both players get some shots in. Compare that to the modern game where no one has fun.
Six Samurai is a barely functional deck in Edison. The Mizuho/Shinai loop and Shi En didn't exist until Storm of Ragnarok, a year after Edison.
Pretty much. While there's Time Wizard Format in real life it'd be hell for people who wanna play starter deck vs starter deck.
We need a standard format and core sets that are built for that format that are draftable. It's insane how long they've coasted with core set design that has zero gameplay value and complexity creep that's stacked up linearly for twenty years. It doesn't even need to rotate. It just needs to be something lower power with more structured gameplay for casuals and normal people to play.

Ehhhh I would like a better format for casuals but I think multiple banlists would be better, more like Pokemon Showdown's usage tier system.
I.e. Snake Eye as OU, Nemleria as NU. You can use NU in any tier above it, but OU cannot be used in the tiers below, only the tier above.
And frick Draft. We literally had draft packs and they died at installment 3. Draft is designed for games where everything save for color is generic and can be cobbled together, not something like YGO with Fusions, Nomi/Semi-Nomi, Rituals, Synchros, etc. YGO draft existed and was fine but went by a different ruleset and had carefully constructed battle pack sets to use.

This would actually be one of the better ways to do it, but like Showdown it would result in there being metas for each category that you run into constantly. So it wouldn't be much different, and most would just play OU in this scenario anyway.

Nah that's too similar to rotation. With tiers, if something gets powercrept it just drops, or the reverse and it rises when it gets buffed. But everything is on a more comparable playing field unless someone wants to be an underdog.

Usage tiering is a non-starter. There's no way to clearly enforce it. Pokemon being a single character that gets thrown between tiers based on what is essentially a six card deck makes this easier to parse. All games taking place on the same platform helps too.
I bet if Konami created a boomer format faux GOAT that banned all the broken cards for more anime style duels it would be extremely popular.
It needs to be a flagship format. Speed Duels was a side thing that made the game simpler but since it was an oddity that was barely supported no one played it. Duel Links did a lot better as an alternative format because it was the main format of its own platform so people didn't feel like it was a waste of time.

Sure there is. If a deck contains a certain two to five card combo, it is only allowed above a tier like that. For example, if a deck has both Flamberge and SE Ash, it's Snake Eye and is OU. If a deck has both LT Kisikil and Lilla it's Live Twin and is in RU, but if it has Spright Blue and 3 other Spright cards with different names, it's UU, which supercedes it.
What if they introduce a new form of summoning and a new type of cards, to keep increasing the ceiling (and therefore half-forcing you to abandon your current decks and go all-in on thr new shit if you want to keep up)

Been playing Mathmech in the cup a bit and IMO you want -1 Equation, +1 Imperm, -1 Ghost Morner, +1 Crossout, then try to make room for 1 more each of Addition/Subtraction. They're great extenders and them plus any cyberse monster is a Terahertz at minimum. As for your extra, you only need 1 splash mage, use G Golem Crystal Heart for any rebuilds since it revives Transcode Talker. Similarly consider I:P and S:P instead of the other 2 Firewalls. You make Darkfluid and Singularity in the @Ignister piles, Mathmech wants to end on Terahertz and maybe an I:P or Heatsoul. Almiraj is probably overkill on Link 1s so consider Bagooska for situations where you get shiftered/maxx C'd and don't have a response. Almiraj is full combo with any hand trap+Addition/Subtraction/eXceed though so consider cutting Ling instead, up to you.

I'm testing a non furniture build with Metaverse, Dimensional Fissures and it's working quite well against FK/SE. Of course you still need to be wary of their archetype quick play spell pops. Which is why you save metaverse for last to search necrovalley. I ran a similar build against Tears but I also had Sphere Modes. Which you don't honestly need however if YOU do. Lava Golem is fire unfortunately. Also consider 2 Trap Trick and 2 Evenly. Still great. Also Necro stops Horus and Runick Fountain.
Already in Master 2. Keep in mind that I'm not using furniture and no rollback. I'll post the deck list later when I get home and maybe a going second replay of Labs beating FK if i can figure it out. GL!
I'd like to see Knight-chan as a rival deck to Lab. Doesn't interact with it at all but its an all purpose anti-trap deck. To differentiate her from Jinzo, rather than just trap immunity and not being able to activate them, give her a ton of bounce-back so she can immediately recover from just about anything. Like how you see Knight-cham jump between traps in some lf the Lab cards.
Give Knight an un-negatable effect to always be able to discard a card from the hand to return to the field or something. Maybe she has a lot of spells to reflect Lab's many traps, but Knight should be the only one with lots of graveyard/banish recursion or it would just get silly
It's pretty hard to powercreep Lady and BWL without breaking the game, to do that you'd need R-ACE Turbulence on fricking steroids with no archetype restrictions.
Well yeah but it's gotta be fricking crazy to do it, like I said it'd have to beat easily searchable set 1 generic from deck with protection that you might be able to activate this turn. She's like Trap Trick minus any restrictions or costs, with added protection, on a big body.
Easiest way would be a banlist and then to introduce a new deck/cards that aren't banned yet but do the same thing honestly.

They don't need to powercreep though. They might but they don't need to. See: all the traptrix support. They got a lot new cards and none of it was powercreeping anything else. It made the deck a little more consistent and able to otk within archetype and that's it. Still solidly rogue.

Basically just better Numeron, yeah. Instead of board breakers you run a bunch of hand traps because everything is a 1-card combo and the field spell makes everything a towers in MP1, and they can synchro into a monster that locks the opponent out of effects in the battle phase. They also dish out enough damage to OTK through Prosperity, so you can't even cheese them with body blocking or not summoning anything like you could with Numeron.
They have a limited ability to play on turn 1 just because they're dragons and can make Hieratic Seals, but I can just tell they're going to be miserable to play against in a BO1

You can have one YGO waifu, card or character, who are you choosing, you may not choose the same as another anon, pick fast. Dueling it out is the only way to win your waifu if its chosen.

Anyway Quinquery is not played. The card isn't bad but the only L5 decks are Cyber Dragon and frickin Artifacts and they both suck, every other deck with L5s uses them with non-L5s mostly, like Infinitrack.
A modern shaddoll deck is half invoked half dogmatika with just schism, apkallone and winda in it. Even if you were to make one with minimal invoked/dogmatika stuff you're still looking at only about 10 cards in main and 4 in the extra.
modern shaddoll deck is cartesia (+dark) into gran guignol, send apkalonne to fetch schism and make winda next turn.
that's all shadoll cards you need and it's very splashable.

...considering the trap recycling and special summon spam, I wonder if its possible to slot this into traptrix? They always have a problem where if ylu special summon enough, they can't keep up woth the trap pressure. Sera only special summons once and traptrix garden lets you normal summon twice.

Their main gimmick was acting as a living floodgate to prevent special summoning if I recall. I would have thought that would always be kinda good since most decks can't function without special summoning. Are they too slow for the modern meta or something?

Yeah they're too slow, fenrir and diabellstar are free summons that can just run her over, but if you don't mind wasting 150 UR or 80 bucks lol on two branded cards and three spells you can turn your winda pass into apollousa + winda + mechaba + caliga pass so even if they out your winda they still have to deal with the other floodgate on legs.

Everyone else is half wrong about inherent summons not being an effect. Summons like Cyber Dragon or Horus monsters are effects.
It's specifically nomi monsters' summons are not considered effects. Either that or just by ruling fiat they are allowed to ignore effects like Necrovalley or Dark Ruler Ha Des.

People could only summon from the extra deck to the linked zones or the extra zone. So they could wait it out and then hit the playmaker. Also, handtraps were not as common, backrow blowbacks were extremely rare, bestials didn’t exists and even the most meta decks could die to an ash or a solemn strike. Everyone else had to wait for that golden opportunity while SS could hit the opponent 4 times on their turn.
Well for one thing, they were meta in a time period that was a few years before Master Duel came out.
It should be telling for you that they could fight nearly on even terms with Tri-Brigade Zoodiac when MD came out, and Tri-Zoo was Tier 1 back then.

Handripping is worse in Bo1. It screws you over far too often to go for blind. We're in fricking Fire King format right now and that means if you're losing to someone handripping you on turn 1 then you're losing to someone who's bad at the game. Either you got sacked which can happen in hundreds of ways in this game or you're bad yourself.
And that's ignoring how big of an investment it is to do and how hard those plays lose to Ash.

Arc-V had a lot of great decks. Fluffal/Frightfur, Lunalight, Raid Raptors, D/D/D, etc. It was actually a great time to be a YGO fan, especially after the sad falloff of the 2nd half of 5Ds and the mess that was Zexal, but it was a shame that it took them so long to release the cards and everyone had a fit about Pendulum despite it being a fun mechanic honestly.
I think D/D/D is the perfect use of them when they first came out, the deck felt super clean to use and was easy to navigate towards your boss monsters.
The second season was fine, the first season was extremely bad. But I do think it was the weakest of the series prior to the style change after Arc-V. And yes Arc-V fell off hard as well as the 5Ds/Synchro Tournament went on and afterwards.

How would you feel if Konami introduced a resource system? Lets say you have 5 resources, which allows you to do only do 5 things a turn, and they reset upon your turn, so you have to debate whether to hold off on resources to bait opponents and use effects during their turns or not?

Ask someone you know who isn't aware of either to watch one episode of Duel Monsters and 1 duel in MD (you might be able to squeeze in two episodes in that time) and ask them what they enjoyed more.
The big titty cards would need simple enough effects for even casuals to understand (there's a reason everyone knows what Pot of Greed does). But those effects would also need to be fricking strong to compete in the current landscape.
I gotta be honest though. Big breasts of greed that lets you draw more, and you can summon more of them if you ever draw them, is probably really strong
Ultimately the game would need to change - no matter how simple or complex the effects are, if there are too many actions most will lose interest. Pot of Greed did nothing crazy in the anime because it didn’t lead to an oppressive board. Bakuras shit or maybe the Stings guy with Slifer were the most oppressive boards but took multiple turns to prepare.
if you go first you probably win. if you go second you lose. boring. really boring. you arent winning with cool monarch effects. you are winning with stun. hopefully if Monarch ever gets its third or fourth round of support the deck will become something cooler but until then not really any point to playing the deck.
Most "fun" way to play it I find is by using all of the Caius Monarchs and pic rel with a focus on summoning on opponents turn to BANEESH the fools. do note I said FUN. not good.

You can have one YGO waifu, card or character, who are you choosing, you may not choose the same as another anon, pick fast. Dueling it out is the only way to win your waifu if its chosen.

Ghost Belle and Haunted Mansion sounds like your character, but you'd probably want a familiar type spirit which there's a ton to choose from. Maybe a Frightfur monster. Maybe something more impish. I think Tour Guide of the Underworld sounds funny as a guardian spirit.

Since we're going through the packs/cards in release order in the setting, I was hoping for something that can be used regardless of archetypes/other cards and could be a good pinch card. Ghost Belle is almost there but hand trap doesn't scream companion to me. I was thinking of picking something like Diabellstar Black Witch since she seems like a good engine for my dumping stuff into the graveyard and works as a sticky beater.

Phantom of Chaos would be fun and kinda cool storywise but probably not actually good.

Vampire Fraulein is cool too. Nice little battle hand trap that makes all your zombies essentially immune to battle if you have the LP to keep paying for her effect. Also you can shift her to attack mode and take a bunch of damage to steal one of their monsters.
Zombies, fiends, and spellcasters was the bread and butter I'm leaning toward. Sadly the cards I pulled and slapped together only has 1 level 8 monster I can use for Zombie Vamp. Pic related, my pile of slop.

The old couple laments and decides to bury her, and at the feet of her grave blossoms a giant sakura tree, one so beautiful it impresses the emperor, who rewards the old couple. Once again the original owner seethes and burns down the tree, but the ash falls on the emperor's eyes and he gets executed for it.

I'd say I'm extroverted and enjoy acting, so I've likely built up some good will with my group but let's be real here, it's a tabletop game of simulated yugioh pack pulling and actual duels. We're all very autistic to some degree and I'm the least degenerate. Pic sorta related, I do a lot of AI art the DM asked me for an evil bandit that knew my character from my backstory.
Given that his right hand is missing a pinky finger, clearly the bandit was arrested and brought before the lord to receive his punishment but as the lord was away anon's character had to decide it in his place, and so she ordered to have his pinky finger cut off so he could no longer wield a sword and would have to give up being a bandit. Now he is out for revenge through the game of Duel Monsters.
It's less degenerate than you'd think, but more heart wrenching than expected. The setting is a post-apoc society where Marik won Battle City and plunged the world into chaos by unleashing the magic innately present in duel monster cards. Egyptian gods became real and erected 3 dome-like domain worlds away from each other. 150 years later nature has reclaimed mostly everything and ruins are scattered everywhere of the modern world as we knew it. Cards are effectively the bottlecap currency of the setting. My character was an orphan that was passed around nomadic groups because people felt pity for her, but not enough to actually keep and raise her. Eventually one group she was with got killed by a roving group of bandits and they debated killing her too when one of them suggested they use her like a scavenging dog that could fit into tight spaces they couldn't while ruin hunting. Treated like malnourished dog she would do as ordered and put herself in harm's way to scavenge, such as crawling in air ducts, into small gaps between collapsed walls, etc. One day she found a fantasy book and, using it like an emotional crutch, latched onto the character until she finally went full schizo and emulated her to the point of self-delusion. She escaped the bandits and ended up in the starting village/settlement where the game takes place.
every kash maindeck monster except ogre is a handtrap magnet because they could be legitimately vital extenders, but it's not possible to ever tell. plus it doesn't help that a bunch of decks run a small kash package that should never be handtrapped as it doesn't accomplish anything. riseheart is just the safest of both worlds. if he gets negated, he becomes a brick that prevents the non-hybrid kash monsters from being special summoned barring spell card intervention and can't be used to make their boss monsters.
theoretically negating fenrir or unicorn could shut down their plays entirely, but that relies on them having absolutely nothing else AND the deck actually being pure kash, which you won't be able to tell until you see more cards.
kashtiratheosis is how they can bail themselves out of basically any situation, so it also needs to be negated unconditionally any time it shows up.
Unicorn lead? Ash Theosis then negate Riseheart if they have it
Fenrir lead? Negate Riseheart
Ogre lead? They bricked lol
Most of the time negating Riseheart is what stops them from getting to Arise turn 1 without hard drawing follow-up which is really all you need to worry about
You Nibiru them before end phase. If you have Imperm Just wait for your turn and then imperm the ariseheart to turn off the floodgate. Most meta decks can play through a Fenrir or Unicorn
You still find different decks between Lv15 and 16, it's past 17 when you'll enter the shitshow that is Kashtira, Kashtira Stun, Stun and the three Snake-Eye variants. Today one Kashhomosexual opened with both Wraitsoth, Imperm, Unicorn, D. Fissure and fricking Necrovalley. I really want to see Unicorn dead, I fricking hate that card.

If I was a 14 year old chuuni girl I would play dinomorphia because I could say I pay half my lifepoints to summon my ultimate monster or like condemned witch to get a card to get me out of a sticky situation. I guess shaddol fusion works too. Anything that is impactful that hits the field.
Vampire decks also pay life points to use their effects, so that's also pretty chuuni. And teenage girls are also into vampires, like Interview with the Vampire, Lestat the Vampire, Twilight...
Those vampire books come every decade to pull girls into them like honey to bears.

They need to actually have a concrete idea of a full story going into it. Even if they did make what you're suggesting, which they should, it'd fall about 1/3 or 1/2 of the way through and become an absolute clusterfrick like it always does. Zexal was strange one out and did it in the reverse. We haven't had a good consistent YGO series since GX, even 5Ds fell apart halfway through (granted that was because of the cult seiyuu shit). But even GX struggled a lot until it got to Supreme King.
The Sky Strikers manga was pretty mid. Card lore has some good ideas but its not really a viable way to write a story. Its just a collection of key moments or characters on cards, and its kinda hard writing something compelling bridging all of that together into a cohesive and enjoyable story.
Plus, anime of people playing card games gives you an excuse to make a ton of decks to make money from. An anime based off the cards themselves would mostly fuel the secondary market, where fans buy cards off each other to make their decks

I liked the Striker manga but it had a bit of a rushed start and finale. Anything not meant to be purposely short would have set up a lot more and made the final battle a tad longer.
Considering most stories are very simple and straightforward, the only thing I can think of that could make things insteresting would be an isekai-based adventure through the different YGO worlds, and I disgust myself for even thinking that.
I think World Legacy could make for a pretty solid series in manga / anime / light novel format.
It's already got a "full" story in solo mode, and it's easily the longest (and best) one, and there're plenty of places where you could flesh it out.

It's honestly amazing how Konami still just doesn't have a multitude of formats for people to play, rather than them being limited events. Then again the min-max autists will always make things worse for everyone else, regardless of game.
If the game follows its own rules better even the min-maxers can't frick up the game too bad unless the dominant strategy is something really toxic like an FTK or consistent full deck draw. It's a lot easier for a casual to sit across from a top level player and have fun playing Edison with them since the power level is low enough that both players get some shots in. Compare that to the modern game where no one has fun.
Edison just dissolves into Six Samurai half the time. But even that's better than the current meta by leaps and bounds.
Six Samurai is a barely functional deck in Edison. The Mizuho/Shinai loop and Shi En didn't exist until Storm of Ragnarok, a year after Edison.
We need a standard format and core sets that are built for that format that are draftable. It's insane how long they've coasted with core set design that has zero gameplay value and complexity creep that's stacked up linearly for twenty years. It doesn't even need to rotate. It just needs to be something lower power with more structured gameplay for casuals and normal people to play.
Ehhhh I would like a better format for casuals but I think multiple banlists would be better, more like Pokemon Showdown's usage tier system.
I.e. Snake Eye as OU, Nemleria as NU. You can use NU in any tier above it, but OU cannot be used in the tiers below, only the tier above.
And frick Draft. We literally had draft packs and they died at installment 3. Draft is designed for games where everything save for color is generic and can be cobbled together, not something like YGO with Fusions, Nomi/Semi-Nomi, Rituals, Synchros, etc. YGO draft existed and was fine but went by a different ruleset and had carefully constructed battle pack sets to use.
This would actually be one of the better ways to do it, but like Showdown it would result in there being metas for each category that you run into constantly. So it wouldn't be much different, and most would just play OU in this scenario anyway.

Usage tiering is a non-starter. There's no way to clearly enforce it. Pokemon being a single character that gets thrown between tiers based on what is essentially a six card deck makes this easier to parse. All games taking place on the same platform helps too.
It needs to be a flagship format. Speed Duels was a side thing that made the game simpler but since it was an oddity that was barely supported no one played it. Duel Links did a lot better as an alternative format because it was the main format of its own platform so people didn't feel like it was a waste of time.

Sure there is. If a deck contains a certain two to five card combo, it is only allowed above a tier like that. For example, if a deck has both Flamberge and SE Ash, it's Snake Eye and is OU. If a deck has both LT Kisikil and Lilla it's Live Twin and is in RU, but if it has Spright Blue and 3 other Spright cards with different names, it's UU, which supercedes it.
What if they introduce a new form of summoning and a new type of cards, to keep increasing the ceiling (and therefore half-forcing you to abandon your current decks and go all-in on thr new shit if you want to keep up)

Konami loves these sort of easer eggs, the most well-known one is that 0 defense on a Zombie type monster means that it’s a feral zombie (just a walking corpse that moves on muscle memory)

Been playing Mathmech in the cup a bit and IMO you want -1 Equation, +1 Imperm, -1 Ghost Morner, +1 Crossout, then try to make room for 1 more each of Addition/Subtraction. They're great extenders and them plus any cyberse monster is a Terahertz at minimum. As for your extra, you only need 1 splash mage, use G Golem Crystal Heart for any rebuilds since it revives Transcode Talker. Similarly consider I:P and S:P instead of the other 2 Firewalls. You make Darkfluid and Singularity in the @Ignister piles, Mathmech wants to end on Terahertz and maybe an I:P or Heatsoul. Almiraj is probably overkill on Link 1s so consider Bagooska for situations where you get shiftered/maxx C'd and don't have a response. Almiraj is full combo with any hand trap+Addition/Subtraction/eXceed though so consider cutting Ling instead, up to you.

I'm testing a non furniture build with Metaverse, Dimensional Fissures and it's working quite well against FK/SE. Of course you still need to be wary of their archetype quick play spell pops. Which is why you save metaverse for last to search necrovalley. I ran a similar build against Tears but I also had Sphere Modes. Which you don't honestly need however if YOU do. Lava Golem is fire unfortunately. Also consider 2 Trap Trick and 2 Evenly. Still great. Also Necro stops Horus and Runick Fountain.
Already in Master 2. Keep in mind that I'm not using furniture and no rollback. I'll post the deck list later when I get home and maybe a going second replay of Labs beating FK if i can figure it out. GL!

I'd like to see Knight-chan as a rival deck to Lab. Doesn't interact with it at all but its an all purpose anti-trap deck. To differentiate her from Jinzo, rather than just trap immunity and not being able to activate them, give her a ton of bounce-back so she can immediately recover from just about anything. Like how you see Knight-cham jump between traps in some lf the Lab cards.
Give Knight an un-negatable effect to always be able to discard a card from the hand to return to the field or something. Maybe she has a lot of spells to reflect Lab's many traps, but Knight should be the only one with lots of graveyard/banish recursion or it would just get silly

Nah that's too similar to rotation. With tiers, if something gets powercrept it just drops, or the reverse and it rises when it gets buffed. But everything is on a more comparable playing field unless someone wants to be an underdog.
They don't need to powercreep though. They might but they don't need to. See: all the traptrix support. They got a lot new cards and none of it was powercreeping anything else. It made the deck a little more consistent and able to otk within archetype and that's it. Still solidly rogue.

Basically just better Numeron, yeah. Instead of board breakers you run a bunch of hand traps because everything is a 1-card combo and the field spell makes everything a towers in MP1, and they can synchro into a monster that locks the opponent out of effects in the battle phase. They also dish out enough damage to OTK through Prosperity, so you can't even cheese them with body blocking or not summoning anything like you could with Numeron.
They have a limited ability to play on turn 1 just because they're dragons and can make Hieratic Seals, but I can just tell they're going to be miserable to play against in a BO1

A modern shaddoll deck is half invoked half dogmatika with just schism, apkallone and winda in it. Even if you were to make one with minimal invoked/dogmatika stuff you're still looking at only about 10 cards in main and 4 in the extra.
modern shaddoll deck is cartesia (+dark) into gran guignol, send apkalonne to fetch schism and make winda next turn.
that's all shadoll cards you need and it's very splashable.

Yeah they're too slow, fenrir and diabellstar are free summons that can just run her over, but if you don't mind wasting 150 UR or 80 bucks lol on two branded cards and three spells you can turn your winda pass into apollousa + winda + mechaba + caliga pass so even if they out your winda they still have to deal with the other floodgate on legs.

Handripping is worse in Bo1. It screws you over far too often to go for blind. We're in fricking Fire King format right now and that means if you're losing to someone handripping you on turn 1 then you're losing to someone who's bad at the game. Either you got sacked which can happen in hundreds of ways in this game or you're bad yourself.
And that's ignoring how big of an investment it is to do and how hard those plays lose to Ash.

Arc-V had a lot of great decks. Fluffal/Frightfur, Lunalight, Raid Raptors, D/D/D, etc. It was actually a great time to be a YGO fan, especially after the sad falloff of the 2nd half of 5Ds and the mess that was Zexal, but it was a shame that it took them so long to release the cards and everyone had a fit about Pendulum despite it being a fun mechanic honestly.
Pendulum cards are fun when they make good use of them, I don't like decks that fully revolve around cycling through a bunch of scales though.
I think D/D/D is the perfect use of them when they first came out, the deck felt super clean to use and was easy to navigate towards your boss monsters.

The second season was fine, the first season was extremely bad. But I do think it was the weakest of the series prior to the style change after Arc-V. And yes Arc-V fell off hard as well as the 5Ds/Synchro Tournament went on and afterwards.

How would you feel if Konami introduced a resource system? Lets say you have 5 resources, which allows you to do only do 5 things a turn, and they reset upon your turn, so you have to debate whether to hold off on resources to bait opponents and use effects during their turns or not?

If you want to make the game popular, I think we need to focus on the cards themselves and not shonen kiddy anime characters playing cards. If the characters on thr cards were .ore marketable, it'd probably work out well.
Unfortunately the only cards people are even remotely aware of im the main stream are like.. dark magician, dark magician girl and blue eyes.
The anime is the only reason the cards are popular in the first place, just as anime archetypes are almost always more known than anything even well beyond DM.

Ask someone you know who isn't aware of either to watch one episode of Duel Monsters and 1 duel in MD (you might be able to squeeze in two episodes in that time) and ask them what they enjoyed more.
The big titty cards would need simple enough effects for even casuals to understand (there's a reason everyone knows what Pot of Greed does). But those effects would also need to be fricking strong to compete in the current landscape.
I gotta be honest though. Big breasts of greed that lets you draw more, and you can summon more of them if you ever draw them, is probably really strong
Ultimately the game would need to change - no matter how simple or complex the effects are, if there are too many actions most will lose interest. Pot of Greed did nothing crazy in the anime because it didn’t lead to an oppressive board. Bakuras shit or maybe the Stings guy with Slifer were the most oppressive boards but took multiple turns to prepare.

if you go first you probably win. if you go second you lose. boring. really boring. you arent winning with cool monarch effects. you are winning with stun. hopefully if Monarch ever gets its third or fourth round of support the deck will become something cooler but until then not really any point to playing the deck.
Most "fun" way to play it I find is by using all of the Caius Monarchs and pic rel with a focus on summoning on opponents turn to BANEESH the fools. do note I said FUN. not good.

Tell us what sort of character you want to be your companion. Ghost Belle and Haunted Mansion sounds like your character, but you'd probably want a familiar type spirit which there's a ton to choose from. Maybe a Frightfur monster. Maybe something more impish. I think Tour Guide of the Underworld sounds funny as a guardian spirit.

Since we're going through the packs/cards in release order in the setting, I was hoping for something that can be used regardless of archetypes/other cards and could be a good pinch card. Ghost Belle is almost there but hand trap doesn't scream companion to me. I was thinking of picking something like Diabellstar Black Witch since she seems like a good engine for my dumping stuff into the graveyard and works as a sticky beater.
White woman would be good as a big sister type of companion or you can choose her younger form if you like but two gothic e-girltas is like a hat on a hat
Oh, so you'll get the card itself. Maybe Archfiend Eccentrick? Ariane would fit sorta well as a maid to an ojousama type, and also is good generic fiend support+trap support. Also it'd be sorta funny to have a cheerful ditzy character serving a chuuni one. Lilith also would be useful as just a trap searcher. Phantom of Chaos would be fun and kinda cool storywise but probably not actually good.

Vampire Fraulein is cool too. Nice little battle hand trap that makes all your zombies essentially immune to battle if you have the LP to keep paying for her effect. Also you can shift her to attack mode and take a bunch of damage to steal one of their monsters.

Zombies, fiends, and spellcasters was the bread and butter I'm leaning toward. Sadly the cards I pulled and slapped together only has 1 level 8 monster I can use for Zombie Vamp. Pic related, my pile of slop.

The old couple laments and decides to bury her, and at the feet of her grave blossoms a giant sakura tree, one so beautiful it impresses the emperor, who rewards the old couple. Once again the original owner seethes and burns down the tree, but the ash falls on the emperor's eyes and he gets executed for it.

I'd say I'm extroverted and enjoy acting, so I've likely built up some good will with my group but let's be real here, it's a tabletop game of simulated yugioh pack pulling and actual duels. We're all very autistic to some degree and I'm the least degenerate. Pic sorta related, I do a lot of AI art the DM asked me for an evil bandit that knew my character from my backstory.

Given that his right hand is missing a pinky finger, clearly the bandit was arrested and brought before the lord to receive his punishment but as the lord was away anon's character had to decide it in his place, and so she ordered to have his pinky finger cut off so he could no longer wield a sword and would have to give up being a bandit. Now he is out for revenge through the game of Duel Monsters.
It's less degenerate than you'd think, but more heart wrenching than expected. The setting is a post-apoc society where Marik won Battle City and plunged the world into chaos by unleashing the magic innately present in duel monster cards. Egyptian gods became real and erected 3 dome-like domain worlds away from each other. 150 years later nature has reclaimed mostly everything and ruins are scattered everywhere of the modern world as we knew it. Cards are effectively the bottlecap currency of the setting. My character was an orphan that was passed around nomadic groups because people felt pity for her, but not enough to actually keep and raise her. Eventually one group she was with got killed by a roving group of bandits and they debated killing her too when one of them suggested they use her like a scavenging dog that could fit into tight spaces they couldn't while ruin hunting. Treated like malnourished dog she would do as ordered and put herself in harm's way to scavenge, such as crawling in air ducts, into small gaps between collapsed walls, etc. One day she found a fantasy book and, using it like an emotional crutch, latched onto the character until she finally went full schizo and emulated her to the point of self-delusion. She escaped the bandits and ended up in the starting village/settlement where the game takes place.

every kash maindeck monster except ogre is a handtrap magnet because they could be legitimately vital extenders, but it's not possible to ever tell. plus it doesn't help that a bunch of decks run a small kash package that should never be handtrapped as it doesn't accomplish anything. riseheart is just the safest of both worlds. if he gets negated, he becomes a brick that prevents the non-hybrid kash monsters from being special summoned barring spell card intervention and can't be used to make their boss monsters.
theoretically negating fenrir or unicorn could shut down their plays entirely, but that relies on them having absolutely nothing else AND the deck actually being pure kash, which you won't be able to tell until you see more cards.
kashtiratheosis is how they can bail themselves out of basically any situation, so it also needs to be negated unconditionally any time it shows up.
Unicorn lead? Ash Theosis then negate Riseheart if they have it
Fenrir lead? Negate Riseheart
Ogre lead? They bricked lol
Most of the time negating Riseheart is what stops them from getting to Arise turn 1 without hard drawing follow-up which is really all you need to worry about
You Nibiru them before end phase. If you have Imperm Just wait for your turn and then imperm the ariseheart to turn off the floodgate. Most meta decks can play through a Fenrir or Unicorn
