I kinda want to play this just because it was warlike human faction when most space space 4x games make you be pussy ass star trek humans that specialize in diplomacy and make you play the resident klingon knockoffs for war.
That's pretty cute, I guess. There's so much you could do with humans in sci-fi and fantasy other than making them amiable diplomats or genocidal zealots. And meatbags with all stats set as 'average' are just soulless.
You could have them be corrupt merchants, degenerate hedonists, explosive breeders or the actual smartest beings in the galaxy. With a suitable backstory you can make anything work.
I like the humans in Deadlock. They're the best merchant faction of the franchise, except they have bad relations with the smuggler faction so they have to deal with them in secret or face public backlash. More than the other factions, they treat their soldiers as expendable tools and can give them suicide injections which improve the damage they do but kill them at the end of combat.
If you don't make humans the "everyman"-race, you limit yourself with what you can do with alien races, since all they can be are "humans but X". If humans are the "breeders", then you can't have any actual breeder-races because humans, who are normal to us, are the breeders, and all alien races have to breed less than us
Bought this on steam because it was shilled in this thread. Who thought that putting real time battles in a game like this would have been a good idea? I've restricted myself to using the autoresolve function only. Other than that: it seems like MoO2, which is just civ in space.
I remember playing MoO2 many years ago and it became a total chore once you had tens of systems under your control.
Aaaah the human sprite is ugly I'm gonna lose my mind!

Typical Ganker mentality. If they can't jerk off to it, they can't play it.

[...] >make humans ugly >why do humans not play my game
It's really just the leader picture by the way, humans have some very nice sexy event pictures. It already ruined my immersion so it doesn't matter, even modding it out didn't help. Not like there's a shortage of MMO clones to play.
the literal only bad thing about ROTP is the god awful human leader image, literally every single other human image is perfectly normal/reasonable looking
i have no idea what possesses the dev to keep that abomination of a leader image, I swear if you just changed that thing's uniform to something like the other human's it'd look far more reasonable

>only bad thing
RotP needs a fricking query language. Imagine trying to control all of this shit or even make sense of it. Also the GUI is still aids.

Is there a better MOO1 remaster with a superior interface and a query language?

holy shit i don't care if it's a remaster of Moo1, you nag. i'm evaluating the game in its own right.

boy, you must've really changed a lot of people's opinions by mocking them. :^)
well its dirt cheap. they probably got realtime battles from MoO3 and thought hey yeah thats pretty cool (it wasnt)
i really dislike when space 4xs go the casual and comedy route. the older MoOs were very serious and there was an almost professional weight to how races even addressed you.
meanwhile in GalCiv2 weapon descriptions, dialogue were half-assed and poorly written. blabla it's a laser blabla. don't like that.
and MoO4 seemed to think that it was nice to lean into every race being some pun-heavy caricature of themselves. oh im a Bulrathi but really im just a bear so im gonna make lots of references to bears like stay away from my cubs, or im a Klackon, we are the Brood sssss
GNN is also needlessly comedic and there's even something about the Alkari skylord claiming to have shot a death star using just a fighter (obvious reference to Mark Hamill), and I strongly feel that we don't really need those things for the game to be interesting. if anything the races become more one dimensional and shallow because they are being needlessly shoehorned into stereotypes. meanwhile in the older MoOs they were kept vague and impersonal, like most aliens should be portrayed.
dont even mention the assistant mentat character that keeps bugging you about events.
>get the mind control from a battleship perk and immediate assimilation perk >have fun taking over aliens >they're instantly assimilated too >wipe them out >make aliens build a colony ship >colonize a random planet with them >race relations -20%! need an alien management center to remove this~
well hello there frickos maybe you shouldn't put the fricking perk in if it won't work when you use their colony ship, and i was being a diversifying benevolent inclusive Psilon ruler too but maybe i should have just Death Spored literally all of them to save myself the trouble.
No, it's pretty shit, also frick wargaming
No, it's really terrible. One of the most final nails in the coffin of the genre. Just play #1 or #2.
For 3 dollars, sure. The game is decent, didn't live up to massive expectations but is okay in it's own right.
yes, but the 5X and UCP mods are pretty much must have.
Yeah this. I forgot to mention this. 5X changes arround the balancce a bit and UCP patches bugs, restores cut content and improves the ai.
No, they turned the Psilons into redditors

wow, first time I'm seeing somebody other than me talk about this game here
Based. Deadlock II was sick

Why does he wear the mask?
i wouldn't even pirate the gog exe.
With mod it's worth about one-fiddy.
Why exactly is this game worse than predecessors?
bugs, starlanes, real time battles
Is there any reason to get this over Endless Space 2?

Take the Remnants of the Precursors pill
Take the 1oom pill
https://github.com/1oom-fork/1oom
What advantage does it have over remnants
It doesn't have post-modernist La Creatura artwork.

That's right, you can't
I've never seen a game get to that many ships
The game is really easy to mod.

What's your opinion about Galactic Civilizations series?
Mechanically they're mostly good but they're more soulless than fricking Stellaris.

With two mods like 5X by Spud Dastardly and UCP by Whatissol new Master of Orion is good game.
