Step 1: mod the shit out of the game to make it playable
Step 2: play for 20 hours before realizing there is basically no strategy, level design or AI and every mission is exactly the same
Step 3: uninstall
So this is basically what happened, so I got BattleTech, and that shit is like a painfully obtuse XCOM.
I should have liked BattleTech. Mechs, tactical combat, fairly deep customization, ok story, and open world missions. I can't really put into words why it just diddn't work as well as XCOM 1 or 2. Maybe the UI/UX? The combat did seem to go slow although thats kinda supposed to be what happens with big mechs. Even mods didn't fix it for me.

BattleTech is still better than MW5. Desperately needs a sequel with an actual budget this time.
this is the exact timeline of my mw5 experience. going back and playing mw3 where there were bridges you had to blow, which would topple over and become ramps to walk up to elevated points was incredible. 20 years of gaming evolution and we've gone backwards. frick mw5.

Nice twist on the tactical genre, worth a try even if still in early access
so far no developer have beat the genius of Mechwarrior 3 controls, sound and general gameplay
Don't, just play MW3 and 4 since they weren't designed by the cash-grabbing morons at PGI.

BattleTech is a better game simply by being made by the original creators and not by PIG.
Get merctech and warfx mod
Early game, find a Hunchback HBK-4P. It's basically fine stock, maybe remove the small laser in the head for some more armor. A giant bank of medium lasers rips the armor off of everything you'll meet, just aim center mass and squeeze. An AMS on at least one of your mechs can help significantly with enemy missiles. Do cantina missions for rewards and to unlock upgrades. Wash your penis.
Aim. Don't spread out your fire. Torso twist. Command your teammates so they take fire instead of you. There you go, that's Mechwarrior.
