Man I played that game so much, with absolutely zero japanese knowledge.
I played till the end and all I wanted was the parts from the robots from the show (Arcbeetle) but they never appeared.
I had to use hex editor hacks to inject my save with the missing parts. To this day I'll never know how you were supposed to obtain them legitimately.
IIRC it's post game content where you fight Phantom Thief.
The first two games are also great. Polish and mechanics are the best in 4 though I'll give you that.
5 is weird as frick and obviously cut short because of budget issues or something. Still the best looking GBC game if you ask me.

I couldn't finish 1.The fact that it came out 2 years AFTER Pokemon Blue in Japan as well just made it worse, because the blueprint for the game was already established.
Understandable. I played on the WS so that version has higher resolution sprites and face portraits for the characters. It's a pretty short game anyway.
2-4 are golden for me.

Wonderswan. Only the first game got a Wonderswan port and ironically it had higher resolution portraits than all 1-5 games, even if it didn't have any colors.

I gets good in later entries, the series progressively gets better for every platform it releases on.
Meaning Medabots 3, 4 and 5 on gameboy are great.
Medabots 8 and 9 on DS/3DS are great.
And so on.

It's Pokemon but with robots.
The build-a-bot aspect is rather pleasing. Unlike Pokemon you can swap out parts to deal with various terrain, enemy types or otherwise and it has an active time battle system that relies on unit speed.

i thought this as a kid too but honestly the animation by bee train on this series was really really underrated especially for that time and considering it was a generic marketing anime for little kids to buy toys and video games
People thought about things differently in the 90s. It's almost like they knew it was meant to sell toys but didn't care. They didn't abandon their integrity over it, nor the show's.

This is the shit we'll be facing even in the AA/AAA game sphere soon when instead of translators, we get whole scripts fed through ChatGPT and edited by someone who doesn't know a lick of Japanese.
Machine translation is never going to be able to account for nuances which are dependent on dialect and accent nor will it be aware of specific contexts.
Until it is. Both the translation and the original writing are going to be done by machines, eventually, and there's nothing you can do about it. Instead of naysaying, spend your time preparing a design for the robotic futanari body you're eventually going to be transplanted into. Medabots' own story will eventually become realistic. Good things are happening.
Except it won't, anyway, good to know you admit you're not one for putting in the effort.

Is it any good? I loved the animé, but the video games seemed lackluster.
3 is good for a GBC game, but don't expect it to change your life. Gmaeboy titles have padded out gameplay and simplistic dialogue. It's just what it is.

Doesn't matter, stuff has to be changed in translation due to character limitations.
I still want a translation of the second game, only because I own a copy and the GBA remake feels super slow compared to the original.
