It can be done, but just guard if you don't get them all. I don't remember guard being there in high rank. I barely did either Ibushi and Narwa because their fights are so fricking gay, so I have zero experience with them. Glad I'm done with those urgents.
I just did this owl subquest. Took me 30min to find all owls, didn't realized you can get on that one tower. The layout of Elgado is fricking garbage, everywhere are invisible walls. Can't even jump from the boat to the pier
you are supposed to retreat before he shoots the rock at you. MR. Ibushi is quite a solid fight
MR Ibushi is no different from the event quest ibushi except you can't shoot down all the rocks every time (it can be done but hard). The reason why each attack does so much damage is because it's balanced around max spirit bugs, switch to the 100 health ones if you're still using the offensive one.
It's probably the fact he deals so much more damage than anything else in MR up to that point that it's easy for a single hit to completely frick you up.
I was pretty shocked at how much damage he dealt. My 760 defense bagel armor was carrying me pretty hard until his fight when I double carted and killed the hunt. If somebody somehow got to that point still using HR armor I'm pretty sure he'd instantly kill them. That said next fight resulted in 0 faints from anybody, he got kind of crushed by people who clearly knew what they were doing and were aware of how careful they needed to be.
Is there a way to get HR and LR materials without sending the meowcenaries or going yourself? I need to farm up some stuff but I really don’t feel like wasting even a few minutes on a low rank Barroth

I think it adds a nice challenge. It's a rotting flesh cave, more organic than it is inorganic. It should be a pretty hostile environment to anything not specifically adapted to exist there. I wish they would do similar gimmicks to more maps (RIP heat and cold).
It also has one of the best monsters and the best theme and a cool elder too.
she has that one full-face makeup covering the whole face and neck to make her skin more white, and that's probably affecting the shading somehow. put that on, max the size sliders, min the vertical position, mess with the glossy, metallic, transparency sliders, and it should do similar stuff.

-Charm Melding sucks ass. MP accelerants are not enough of an improvement to fix it. It feels awful to do 10 hunts and open your box only get a rarity 10 charm that has no slots or only has garbage like Mounting Master and Recovery Speed
-Spiribirds suck. Why they thought it would be a good idea to lock over 50% of your stats behind these stupid birds is beyond me. I just want to get into a quest and start hunting, not play scavenger hunt with these little shits for 5 minutes.

It being designed for parties isn't equivalent to it being impossible solo. But look at what the afflicted Monster system does: >adds constantly shifting Qurio zones across the monster's parts >Killing them deals extra damage, and if you manage to blow up a bunch you weaken the monster >Leave them up for too long and the monster will explode with qurio juice and chunk your health
Simultaneously chipping down specific zones on the monster is possible solo, but it's clearly designed so that 4 members in a group + buddies each focus on a different Qurio part of the monster to keep the explosion in check.

What kind of logic is this. They're 4 guys that have hundreds of hours of experience hunting with one another. I dunno about you, but I don't have friends on call when I sit down to hunt. So naturally if I want to play multiplayer its randos, and expecting randos online to be as good as Team Darkside is moronic. It isn't, and never will be the average player experience.

1/50 of my join request hunts I get legit good players who consistently stun, trap, immobilize, and ride the monster, finishing it off in less than 8 min. Most other times hunts take 15-25 minutes with randoms.
People have already called you a moron for the speed run comparison but I'll just add and say that it's nearly impossible to use my axe mode well (CB user) with a monster like Seregios because of the speed I move at and the smaller window to dodge.
I've had monsters that get up and do an attack even before I finish doing the phial burst combo. It's not good.

Anything that relies more on raw and doesn't have any other gimmicks. SnS, Lance, etc. The Gunlance is good too because it has all that, lots of sharpness, and Wide 8.

paint balls were mediocre but only marginally annoying when they ran out right when the monster disappeared.
poop sniffing tracking was legitimately awful, but the bugs leading you straight to the monster at max level was good when you finally got it.
As I said, having half empty stamina and health bars constantly on the screen unless you fill them up with birds is annoying and the fact that an Ancient or Max Potion can't fill them up anymore is stupid.

Am I missing something on those attacks? If I need to Guard for each instance of damage on those I'm not sure what the tell would be for shit like the slide where it's not a separate swing for each hit
Twin Vine gives extra levels of Guard when it's active, even if you have the skill maxed out. I believe it's +2. You can also chain insta block into itself for multi hit attacks.
Don't forget about your power guard. It won't prevent chip damage, but you will never receive knockback so it's sometimes the best option against certain multihit attacks
Reminder that the spirit bird dango food doubles the value of spirit birds and increasing the collection radius significantly. You can get most of your spirit birds just by going to the monster

I'm trying to learn DBs and I get constantly fricked by the monster spinning around beneath me and the hitbox extending way up in the air and smacking me. Should I literally just focus on trying to hit Demon Flight like a parry? I also get caught in the longer animations of the ground combo way too much so I'm thinking of just not using it. I usually use GL so the playstyle is so different it's hard for me to grasp.

World was pretty fun before they added Behemoth and then half of the new fights had to have some "Do this gimmick or instantly die from a map wide nuke". I'd rather not buy Sunbreak if it turns into the same thing.
It's objectively worse. The gimmick is to fight those afflicted monsters that have ridiculously bloated HP and that have that new explosion mechanic if you don't hit their glowing body parts fast enough. That's your endgame

Nah it's still a shit mechanic, no one wants to play "hit the wiggling tiny parts of the monster or else it explodes" even for the shit damage it does it's still an inconvenience that has no reason to exist. Especially since these fights are already quite long, even from capcom's point of view since they had to nerf them,. Let's not even talk about how they don't even bring any new gear and just serve as a way to gatekeep R10 weapons, and in such a terrible way that all people do is find the easiest monster to farm and stick to that untill they can make their weapon and then never touch that shit again.

i do triple that damage with impact crater, almost double that with stationary level 3 charge and i've only just farmed the MR anjanath set and have no good decorations + a basically useless talisman that I wear for the deco slots to fit wirebug whisperer.

Because we attack 3 times fast than most other weapons can. We can stay in the monsters face, counter anything they throw at us, and pay it back to them in spades. Even if they're flying, or if they're really tall, or cant be reached by anything other than ranged, a lance can and will dish out damage to it. No lancer out there worth their salt is caring about 'big numbers go brrrrrrrrr', they're preparing for the next attack and are going to punish the monster for thinking it could ever frick with (or move the unstoppable wall that is their shield) a lancer.
Lancers deal with multiple, precise, fast strikes. and it's why nowadays its seen as one of the more viable weapons. It's keeping up with the average hunter, and in many cases, beating what would pass for the average "skilled" hunter in pure damage.
You make the big numbers in slow and calculated attacks. Lancers make small numbers very fricking quickly while breaking wings/skulls/arms, cutting tails, stunning monsters, and causing absolute mayhem on it. The best you can do is golf-swing away and *maybe* get a stun in if you're lucky.

As a side note, I'm pretty confident Citadel is the shittiest gen 5 map. Area 5 is straight up broken with how monsters get stuck up on the upper ledge. In fact no area besides 2 is good, they are all small as frick with the area in the back having atrocious ledges

I fricking hate sliding so god damn much. I play hammer and I swear every fricking zone is a slip and slide as I'm trying to charge up to go in for some smacks. I like the presentation, but the actual design for fighting is god awful because of this.
if it takes more than a week to realize citadel is bad, that already makes it better than ancient forest, where you realize it's bad about 5 minutes into the first hunt in the game.

Focus is kinda nerfed in Rise and while it's good to have on GS you kinda have diminishing returns with level 3, swap the gem you have on your legs with something else you really want to have and see how comfortable you are with a miniscule speed difference
Phial Boost is amazing. Unless you're spamming ZSD non-stop, you will never run out of gauge, and your sword amps a lot quicker if you're not just relying on the counter. Turns 2-Stage into a really good resource management tool. Really good for Power Phials. I think it also gives phial explosions on all axe morph attacks, amped or not, though I'd have to check again.
Ooooh, right. I totally forgot about that.
Well it used to be really good, but instead of 100% crits, it just increases your affinity by 20% apparently, and only in Demon Mode. You can still use it with Protective Polish and Ironshine though, so it might be worth it. Crit Element is really easy to slot in, after all.

When I host up it takes forever for anyone to join, when someone does the quest is usually almost over. Joining takes like 10 or more tries to finally find a match. Considering that there's 10k people playing average I don't see why it should be this hard to find lobbies.

Frick yes. I thought bulletto burast would be the most best thing from sunbreak but erupting canon makes GL so much more smooth and fluid to play since you don't have wyrmstake's insane recovery anymore, and it makes poke and shell more viable.

just recently started playing HH again, it might actually become my new main, magnificent trio with the shockwave buff up is just number diarrhea and i love it
haven't tried IG yet but the new powder kinsect stuff looks pretty fun
Something fun with HH is that the shockwave buff also directly leads into the infernal melody spin attack if you keep mashing R2 after, just like it does at the end of a slide beat.
Lets you get that buff out early so you can do a stronger magnificent trio that insta-pops the sonic bloom.

This was my absolute favorite since 3U until Rise, SB adding an alternative to Slide Beat and Earthshaker, having switch skill swap so I had access to Resonant Bead, and adding some incredible songs (like just playing one that gives handicraft+razor sharp? Or outright sharpening everyone's weapons while buffing elemental attack/reduced stamina use?) has made it SO much more fun. My only probem is the canned combos for it mean you don't get instant access to backswing, which is just such a meaty, satisfying hit in a unique arc.

I would advise you to look at the Rathian and Magmadron R10s which have absurdly high damage, high shelling, good sharpness, neutral affinity and normal shelling. There is a world where every R10 can just be good.
Just remove shelling levels and tie damage increases exclusively to the Rarity of a weapon so GL doesn't decimate low level monsters before falling off a little in endgame. Opens up weapon choices and builds a lot then.
For that matter, delete fricking Kinsect Levels too. Frick you devs.

Explain the current hammer to a moron. How do you play it niow since IC is nerfed? How do you use it properly now? It always feels like it is doing sort of less damage than it should overall, even if hitting the head.
I am also a small brain who hasn't actually tried it since someone else told me, but I think it's something along the lines of the new spin attack when you hold R2 lets you cancel out of it with that R2+Circle that changes you between yellow/blue modes and pops you right into being fully charged.
So that lets you chain together charged attacks or something? I'm not entirely sure how that works but worth a shot starting from there.

I just don't heal. At this point most fights I am good enough to almost no hit if I try hard enough and don't get bored or greedy, for the ones I can't do that for yet I just heal as necessary. It's not that big of a deal, keep in mind that Gaismagorm's set also has the highest defense in the entire game and the health drain is relatively slow while being unable to outright kill you (you stay at 1 HP). I play IG 90% of the time so the attacks that might usually be difficult for melee players to dodge is easy with the aerial stuff and the ground dodges are the same as any weapon.
Fun tip: if you play HH you can also just run the whole set and suffer zero penalties by using a horn with Health Recovery songs. Working in Malzeno parts for Bloodrite and building a Heal Centric Palico also works.

If you want a good all-rounder, Daora's or Daimyo's are good choices, and Teo's and Chammy's aren't the worst choices either. The Kamura axe is okay too, but you can't fit Phial Boost on it.
That said, the elemental phials are nuts when you're against a monster with proper elemental zones. Have fun farming the Almudrons.

How the frick do I find a dedicated group of players who aren't shit for brains that cheated all their gear in? I did three Afflicted quests and everyone triple carted the quest every time. NOBODY is attacking the quirio spots. The monster pops off its big quirio AoE attack multiple times. Fricking hell there was even some GS Black person that kept dropping barrel bombs and using strongarm stance in a group of blademasters.

I blame TA autism, strongarm is very powerful but can't just be spammed casually espacially in multiplayer.
It's not a matter of tripping or getting tripped, it's really more about the agggro, the positionning and the overall action going on making the situation much more chaotic for you to place a strongarm in multi, or even in solo if you insist on using the barrel bomb trick instead of just playing normally.

MR Ibushi is no different from the event quest ibushi except you can't shoot down all the rocks every time (it can be done but hard). The reason why each attack does so much damage is because it's balanced around max spirit bugs, switch to the 100 health ones if you're still using the offensive one.
Each rock takes 2 shot easy
MR Ibushi is harder than MR Allmother
It is really weird to me people struggle with Ibushi, he is slow and takes so much damage just from blowing up his rocks
It's probably the fact he deals so much more damage than anything else in MR up to that point that it's easy for a single hit to completely frick you up.
I was pretty shocked at how much damage he dealt. My 760 defense bagel armor was carrying me pretty hard until his fight when I double carted and killed the hunt. If somebody somehow got to that point still using HR armor I'm pretty sure he'd instantly kill them. That said next fight resulted in 0 faints from anybody, he got kind of crushed by people who clearly knew what they were doing and were aware of how careful they needed to be.

It being designed for parties isn't equivalent to it being impossible solo. But look at what the afflicted Monster system does:

>Leave them up for too long and the monster will explode with qurio juice and chunk your health
Simultaneously chipping down specific zones on the monster is possible solo, but it's clearly designed so that 4 members in a group + buddies each focus on a different Qurio part of the monster to keep the explosion in check.
Not even mentioning the inflated hp values either.
Because speed runners do the same quest dozens of times to get the good run, and they know how to abuse the ai and damage thresholds so the monster doesn't move around like an adhd moron

1/50 of my join request hunts I get legit good players who consistently stun, trap, immobilize, and ride the monster, finishing it off in less than 8 min. Most other times hunts take 15-25 minutes with randoms.
People have already called you a moron for the speed run comparison but I'll just add and say that it's nearly impossible to use my axe mode well (CB user) with a monster like Seregios because of the speed I move at and the smaller window to dodge.
I've had monsters that get up and do an attack even before I finish doing the phial burst combo. It's not good.

Steve's HBG is probably one of the easier and better multi-ammo HBG with no recoil out there.
His gloves are pretty useful, and Bladescale Hone is neat. Thankfully it comes in a decoration.
Anything that relies more on raw and doesn't have any other gimmicks. SnS, Lance, etc. The Gunlance is good too because it has all that, lots of sharpness, and Wide 8.
Things I dislike about Rise:
-Emphasis on counter moves. Endgame monsters in Master Rank are designed for full parties and spaz around like morons way too fast and wildly to consistently predict proper counter timing
-Charm Melding sucks ass. MP accelerants are not enough of an improvement to fix it. It feels awful to do 10 hunts and open your box only get a rarity 10 charm that has no slots or only has garbage like Mounting Master and Recovery Speed

Twin Vine gives extra levels of Guard when it's active, even if you have the skill maxed out. I believe it's +2. You can also chain insta block into itself for multi hit attacks.
Don't forget about your power guard. It won't prevent chip damage, but you will never receive knockback so it's sometimes the best option against certain multihit attacks

World was pretty fun before they added Behemoth and then half of the new fights had to have some "Do this gimmick or instantly die from a map wide nuke". I'd rather not buy Sunbreak if it turns into the same thing.

Because we attack 3 times fast than most other weapons can. We can stay in the monsters face, counter anything they throw at us, and pay it back to them in spades. Even if they're flying, or if they're really tall, or cant be reached by anything other than ranged, a lance can and will dish out damage to it. No lancer out there worth their salt is caring about 'big numbers go brrrrrrrrr', they're preparing for the next attack and are going to punish the monster for thinking it could ever frick with (or move the unstoppable wall that is their shield) a lancer.
Lancers deal with multiple, precise, fast strikes. and it's why nowadays its seen as one of the more viable weapons. It's keeping up with the average hunter, and in many cases, beating what would pass for the average "skilled" hunter in pure damage.
You make the big numbers in slow and calculated attacks. Lancers make small numbers very fricking quickly while breaking wings/skulls/arms, cutting tails, stunning monsters, and causing absolute mayhem on it. The best you can do is golf-swing away and *maybe* get a stun in if you're lucky.

Phial Boost is amazing. Unless you're spamming ZSD non-stop, you will never run out of gauge, and your sword amps a lot quicker if you're not just relying on the counter. Turns 2-Stage into a really good resource management tool. Really good for Power Phials. I think it also gives phial explosions on all axe morph attacks, amped or not, though I'd have to check again.

Well it used to be really good, but instead of 100% crits, it just increases your affinity by 20% apparently, and only in Demon Mode. You can still use it with Protective Polish and Ironshine though, so it might be worth it. Crit Element is really easy to slot in, after all.

just recently started playing HH again, it might actually become my new main, magnificent trio with the shockwave buff up is just number diarrhea and i love it
haven't tried IG yet but the new powder kinsect stuff looks pretty fun
Something fun with HH is that the shockwave buff also directly leads into the infernal melody spin attack if you keep mashing R2 after, just like it does at the end of a slide beat.
Lets you get that buff out early so you can do a stronger magnificent trio that insta-pops the sonic bloom.

Or outright sharpening everyone's weapons while buffing elemental attack/reduced stamina use?) has made it SO much more fun. My only probem is the canned combos for it mean you don't get instant access to backswing, which is just such a meaty, satisfying hit in a unique arc.

Just remove shelling levels and tie damage increases exclusively to the Rarity of a weapon so GL doesn't decimate low level monsters before falling off a little in endgame. Opens up weapon choices and builds a lot then.

for me, it's Adamant and Rage slash just like the base game. I play multiplayer mostly and land way more hits this way

Why is he so loud in quests?
There's two kind of hunters: those that THRASH and those that GET THRASHED. Utsushi learned all weapons for non-stop THRASHING.
Explain the current hammer to a moron. How do you play it niow since IC is nerfed? How do you use it properly now? It always feels like it is doing sort of less damage than it should overall, even if hitting the head.
I am also a small brain who hasn't actually tried it since someone else told me, but I think it's something along the lines of the new spin attack when you hold R2 lets you cancel out of it with that R2+Circle that changes you between yellow/blue modes and pops you right into being fully charged.
So that lets you chain together charged attacks or something? I'm not entirely sure how that works but worth a shot starting from there.

Pound 2 (pre-golfswing) combos into Water Strike, if you feel the Golf Swing is unsafe

Use Impact Burst, it pairs extremely well with Courage. It's also an endlag cancel, pivot, and combos quickly into pound or side swipe

The argosy is literally free and costs some measly 750 points to get triple item rate, how is cost even an issue here
It's more of a laziness/lack of game knowledge issue, most people probably don't realize you can bring crafting mats and craft items mid-fight instantly

Also crafting is instant, the game creates and uses the item with the same button press used to activate the potion, so there's no excuse besides not understanding the game systems required to have a stock of 999+ mats for max potions in your box

My endgame hunts take less than 10 minutes, I think I can spare the extra 10 seconds I spend healing with mega pots. It's not that serious
The only time I pop a max is when I get hit by a strong attack that takes me really low
So no reason to use regular potions other than "meh, I'm lazy and this is how I've always done it"

The reason is that it literally doesn't matter and I don't want my argosy only farming mandagoras because I use a max potion when I've only taken chip damage
You should think about what's really worth fussing about if it really bothers you that other hunters use mega pots. If you want to micromanage every aspect of a hunt, I suggest you just solo speedrun or anything else other than playing with other people online and getting upset over such silly microcosms

You lose literally just seconds of kill times by waiting out the full heal, which you don't even have to do, and that's barely even a full minute of the total hunt time.

It is moronic when the Mega Potions + the literally free First Aid Meds also instantly heal 20% of your HP before doing the other half of their heal slowly, and the mats are not free unless you forgo the Argosy making others items you might want or need to use.

I just don't heal. At this point most fights I am good enough to almost no hit if I try hard enough and don't get bored or greedy, for the ones I can't do that for yet I just heal as necessary. It's not that big of a deal, keep in mind that Gaismagorm's set also has the highest defense in the entire game and the health drain is relatively slow while being unable to outright kill you (you stay at 1 HP). I play IG 90% of the time so the attacks that might usually be difficult for melee players to dodge is easy with the aerial stuff and the ground dodges are the same as any weapon.
Fun tip: if you play HH you can also just run the whole set and suffer zero penalties by using a horn with Health Recovery songs. Working in Malzeno parts for Bloodrite and building a Heal Centric Palico also works.
What weapons don't have a playstyle warped around a single move? I heard negative things about Hammer in base Rise and now GL in Sunbreak.

Yes.
If you want a good all-rounder, Daora's or Daimyo's are good choices, and Teo's and Chammy's aren't the worst choices either. The Kamura axe is okay too, but you can't fit Phial Boost on it.
That said, the elemental phials are nuts when you're against a monster with proper elemental zones. Have fun farming the Almudrons.

How the frick do I find a dedicated group of players who aren't shit for brains that cheated all their gear in? I did three Afflicted quests and everyone triple carted the quest every time. NOBODY is attacking the quirio spots. The monster pops off its big quirio AoE attack multiple times. Fricking hell there was even some GS Black person that kept dropping barrel bombs and using strongarm stance in a group of blademasters.

It's not a matter of tripping or getting tripped, it's really more about the agggro, the positionning and the overall action going on making the situation much more chaotic for you to place a strongarm in multi, or even in solo if you insist on using the barrel bomb trick instead of just playing normally.
