because LS's new playstyle is going to be build auras and abuse Sacred Sheathe, it isn't even hard to ready and land it despite how deceptively long the animation is because of how forgiving the steps are
Your core moves all got buffed and dumping your aura for sacred sheath seems like the way to go now, so they probably didn't want no aura to feel as shitty
A lot of things changed with the weapon you can't just isolate 1-2 adjustments and get the full picture

LS is the most popular weapon since it's extremely easy and very flashy. Capcom gives them special attention so the zoomers of the franchise get something to play with
I wish I was good at the series and could become good. Even trying to become good is painful since you remember you play these series for 4 years wih mostly a single weapon and still awful with it.
GS. At least in older games it was just a single charge attack, it was easy to play and versatile. At least there I had some semblance of being kinda good. Now you have to use TCS and everyone claims for the weapon to be easy, but half the time I don't fricking know what to do because some claim you have to ONLY use TCS, some say that you don't, some say how they clear even the most spastic shits by some fricking magic means by seeing 5 seconds into the future probably. It became such a frustrating piece of shit to play where you either go a complete tryhard and microsweat every hunt by the script where the slightest alteration messes up the hunt or you are miserable for the majority of it trying.
And I know they introduced the hysteria now, I guess it is a solution but it will only last for Sunbreak, the next game it is the same fricking shit with the 3 charges where 2 of them question their existence and the third one is as fun as applying a ball stretcher to yourself.
I refuse to let go, I don't want to be filtered.
Greatsword isn't a reactionary weapon as say LS is, you need to attack when a monster repositions rather than when it attacks. In Rise you have both Rage slash and Wirebug skills to evade or absorb attacks if you are bad position, try to learn how to escape a bad situation with them rather than going full offense.
I know all these plattitudes about the weapon. But everytime I have to choose between TCS and any other move I have an existential crisis. Rage slash is cope and inferior, you have to use TCS. I always feel like I'm doing everything wrong. I never see anyone just playing the weapon to ever confirm anything to how to approach anything. Yes, I beat and clear shit, but never by any good time and mostly feeling like I banged nails with a handle of a hammer.
Well if you're that stubborn to stick to it, just keep practicing.

I've cleared pretty much everything in Rise twice over and I dumped TCS for Rage Slash the first moment I could. Pairing Rage Slash and Adamant Charge Slash IMO is a much more satisfying evolution of the gen 5 GS moveset. Also I think TCS just looks stupid.

The monsters are too fast now it feels like there are so few risk free attacks and if you take nothing but risk free attacks it takes too long
Hammer has absurdly high elemental modifiers now with Courage mode, they SUPER underplay how huge this is, like the 3rd charge attack does like 5 times the your elemental damage/status buildup. Combined this with how hammer has extremely high element/status values, the new Charge Master skill which boosts the element/status of charge attacks (includes every hit in the Courage charge combo), and the new Foray skill which boosts your raw and affinity by a huge amount (like 20 and 20) if the monster is poisoned (Chameleos and Pukei Hammers become ABSURDLY strong as a result). Combine this with the new rampage slot system, which means you can get stuff like Element Exploit or Kushala Soul on any weapon with a large enough rampage slot, and Elemental Hammer is going to not only be strong as frick, but genuinely disgusting.
There's also just like a frickton of new sources of element/status up with new skills.
GS also got huge element/status buffs in the form of the Surge Slash combo thats in, the Wide combo path also builds ridiculous amounts of element/status, although it doesn't benefit from Charge Master like Hammer does. It doesn't matter really though, because Greatsword has ABSURD elemental values, like there are 4 different greatswords with over 100 element, and a half dozen or so more greatswords with 80+ element, some of these can also use level 3 rampage slots,which means Element Exploit/Kushala Soul, while others are level 2 and get to slot Exploit skills. Speartuna GS has a whopping 118 Ice and can slot Repeat Offender, with just HR armor sets you can get 300 ice damage in ONE ATTACK, and that's before any raw is taken into account.
So yeah, Sunbreak is somehow the game where the meta element weapons are Hammer and GS based on pure math alone, which I don't think literally anyone expected whatsoever.

That ends up being way less on the actual weakest element hitzone on a monster unless they're adjusting those across the board too

Getting the scale of the old maps would be hard... that being said some games like ARK (after 4 years of updates) manage to have some pretty huge feeling maps. I feel like open world could work but they would have to go far away from the fast/Arcady hunts they love so much now a days
I think the 4th gen maps would be the hardest to update to the new style and keep the sense of scale
The mountain in Ancestral Steppes is fricking huge, Jurassic Frontier is super spread out, the 4U Jungle has that gigantic skeleton spanning the whole map but it's tiny in the distance from the mountain peak, etc
Ya, there is no way they could honestly make maps of that scale but making the map FEEL huge would be possible. I use ark as a example because for all the shit that game gets wrong, scale is not one of them. As long as your not on some super fast flying dinosaur or cheating forest's feel super dense and vast, mountings look huge and feel like they take forever to climb ect. A massive map where you have to hunt down and fight one monster thats living its life somewhere around there could work. Each hunt would have to take a hour or two to make it feel as big as it should though and that's where the idea dies. capcom dont like slow hunts no more
Sounds like you’d spend a lot of time running between arenas, even if palamutes stayed. Or teleporting around the map to camps and this avoiding most of the open world in the first place. Leave the expansive open world to Dragon’s Dogma 2. Unless the devs actually decide to move away from the area based arena system of MonHun (which is risky and probably not a good idea) you really don’t gain much from open world.
I would like to see them try a monhan where the theme is a long journey, takes placer in a wide world, you start in an area with 1* weak monster and progress onwards.
Thing is that kind of massive game isn't something you can just make as a cheap project, so it's not very realistic to expect.

So you can't even load into the main menu or anything? Are you sure the installation itself isn't fricked? If you're using a DX12 compatible card and Win10 this shouldn't be happening.
Download the Sunbreak demo on Steam and if it works just fine with no problems then that narrows down your problem with Rise itself being a fricked installation or shader compilation, and it'd be good to verify files in that case.

For some reason turf wars are really rare and don't always activate even when two monsters that have them end up in the same place. So far in my current playthrough I've only seen Arzuros vs Tetranadon and Rathian vs Tigrex.
if I'm not mistaken he has turf wars with wyverns that fly like rathalos and aknosom but it wasn't that different from the ones with the elders besdies the fact that he always loses vs the elders

In many ways i find dual blades to be an easy weapon because you go fast as frick, trivializing many gimmicks intended for the standard hunter speed. When i fought goss as DB i thought he was a fricking scrub and didn't understand it since you can just dance around his shit, making him completely powerless. Only understood his stuff when i did it later with gunlance.

because LS's new playstyle is going to be build auras and abuse Sacred Sheathe, it isn't even hard to ready and land it despite how deceptively long the animation is because of how forgiving the steps are
Your core moves all got buffed and dumping your aura for sacred sheath seems like the way to go now, so they probably didn't want no aura to feel as shitty
A lot of things changed with the weapon you can't just isolate 1-2 adjustments and get the full picture

GS. At least in older games it was just a single charge attack, it was easy to play and versatile. At least there I had some semblance of being kinda good. Now you have to use TCS and everyone claims for the weapon to be easy, but half the time I don't fricking know what to do because some claim you have to ONLY use TCS, some say that you don't, some say how they clear even the most spastic shits by some fricking magic means by seeing 5 seconds into the future probably. It became such a frustrating piece of shit to play where you either go a complete tryhard and microsweat every hunt by the script where the slightest alteration messes up the hunt or you are miserable for the majority of it trying.
And I know they introduced the hysteria now, I guess it is a solution but it will only last for Sunbreak, the next game it is the same fricking shit with the 3 charges where 2 of them question their existence and the third one is as fun as applying a ball stretcher to yourself.
I refuse to let go, I don't want to be filtered.
Greatsword isn't a reactionary weapon as say LS is, you need to attack when a monster repositions rather than when it attacks. In Rise you have both Rage slash and Wirebug skills to evade or absorb attacks if you are bad position, try to learn how to escape a bad situation with them rather than going full offense.
I know all these plattitudes about the weapon. But everytime I have to choose between TCS and any other move I have an existential crisis. Rage slash is cope and inferior, you have to use TCS. I always feel like I'm doing everything wrong. I never see anyone just playing the weapon to ever confirm anything to how to approach anything. Yes, I beat and clear shit, but never by any good time and mostly feeling like I banged nails with a handle of a hammer.
Well if you're that stubborn to stick to it, just keep practicing.

Hammer has absurdly high elemental modifiers now with Courage mode, they SUPER underplay how huge this is, like the 3rd charge attack does like 5 times the your elemental damage/status buildup. Combined this with how hammer has extremely high element/status values, the new Charge Master skill which boosts the element/status of charge attacks (includes every hit in the Courage charge combo), and the new Foray skill which boosts your raw and affinity by a huge amount (like 20 and 20) if the monster is poisoned (Chameleos and Pukei Hammers become ABSURDLY strong as a result). Combine this with the new rampage slot system, which means you can get stuff like Element Exploit or Kushala Soul on any weapon with a large enough rampage slot, and Elemental Hammer is going to not only be strong as frick, but genuinely disgusting.
There's also just like a frickton of new sources of element/status up with new skills.

GS also got huge element/status buffs in the form of the Surge Slash combo thats in, the Wide combo path also builds ridiculous amounts of element/status, although it doesn't benefit from Charge Master like Hammer does. It doesn't matter really though, because Greatsword has ABSURD elemental values, like there are 4 different greatswords with over 100 element, and a half dozen or so more greatswords with 80+ element, some of these can also use level 3 rampage slots,which means Element Exploit/Kushala Soul, while others are level 2 and get to slot Exploit skills. Speartuna GS has a whopping 118 Ice and can slot Repeat Offender, with just HR armor sets you can get 300 ice damage in ONE ATTACK, and that's before any raw is taken into account.
So yeah, Sunbreak is somehow the game where the meta element weapons are Hammer and GS based on pure math alone, which I don't think literally anyone expected whatsoever.

I personally enjoyed the ghost tiger aspect a lot since so many of the mons were themed around supernatural concepts. Nerge’s theme worked well in World’s hyper focus on the “realism” of MonHun, but I dunno his attributes just end up being rather dull. Especially when they ended up adding Fatty anyway, who is the king of mundane but absurdly powerful.

The mountain in Ancestral Steppes is fricking huge, Jurassic Frontier is super spread out, the 4U Jungle has that gigantic skeleton spanning the whole map but it's tiny in the distance from the mountain peak, etc
Ya, there is no way they could honestly make maps of that scale but making the map FEEL huge would be possible. I use ark as a example because for all the shit that game gets wrong, scale is not one of them. As long as your not on some super fast flying dinosaur or cheating forest's feel super dense and vast, mountings look huge and feel like they take forever to climb ect. A massive map where you have to hunt down and fight one monster thats living its life somewhere around there could work. Each hunt would have to take a hour or two to make it feel as big as it should though and that's where the idea dies. capcom dont like slow hunts no more
Sounds like you’d spend a lot of time running between arenas, even if palamutes stayed. Or teleporting around the map to camps and this avoiding most of the open world in the first place. Leave the expansive open world to Dragon’s Dogma 2. Unless the devs actually decide to move away from the area based arena system of MonHun (which is risky and probably not a good idea) you really don’t gain much from open world.
I would like to see them try a monhan where the theme is a long journey, takes placer in a wide world, you start in an area with 1* weak monster and progress onwards.
Thing is that kind of massive game isn't something you can just make as a cheap project, so it's not very realistic to expect.

6700 XT. Crashing whenever there is a loading icon in the bottom right. So far I've been managing to avoid a crash by messing around in windows security, but now even that is having no effect.
So you can't even load into the main menu or anything? Are you sure the installation itself isn't fricked? If you're using a DX12 compatible card and Win10 this shouldn't be happening.
I can load in and pick a save to play, but it crashes on the immediate loading screen that follows. I'm not giving up.
Download the Sunbreak demo on Steam and if it works just fine with no problems then that narrows down your problem with Rise itself being a fricked installation or shader compilation, and it'd be good to verify files in that case.
Found the problem, brother man. It was the overlays. The same thing happened with Elden Ring months ago when out of the blue it started to crash. Apparently I missed a few to disable...

For some reason turf wars are really rare and don't always activate even when two monsters that have them end up in the same place. So far in my current playthrough I've only seen Arzuros vs Tetranadon and Rathian vs Tigrex.

In many ways i find dual blades to be an easy weapon because you go fast as frick, trivializing many gimmicks intended for the standard hunter speed. When i fought goss as DB i thought he was a fricking scrub and didn't understand it since you can just dance around his shit, making him completely powerless. Only understood his stuff when i did it later with gunlance.
