It's a well designed map that someone put a lot of thought and effort into, and it's really impressive for what it is. The worst part about it is the super poorly written journal attached to it, but that can easily be ignored.

The part with the dog is from the backrooms, the indoor playground is from the backrooms, the 90s airport is from the backrooms, the flooded pool area is backrooms, the memphis style rooms are from the backrooms. The sprites used for the "artifacts" are as low quality as you can get in doom and not every one of them stands out well enough to know it's a collectable.Not to mention that final shitty fight. Otherwise it's a pretty cool wad but the rest of that shit drags it way back down. Remove the maze, make the item sprites more crisp/better color saturation/resolution, and better tune the final fight so the packs of enemies are better organized for a little infighting (by the way the gas station front window is bugged and you can semi clip through it from inside and trick everything into in-fighting from safety anyways, so dev should fix those shitty bugs too). morons tongue my fucking ANUS.

lots of games start off as mods because it's simply a lot easier to modify something than to build everything from scratch
These days its easier just making a game with unreal or unity and very few games come with proper modding tools these days, unlike in the past.
The Source SDK is hell to use compared to unity/unreal but it was the best you got before game engines were generally available for everyone to use.
