In all honesty, writing AI is a very difficult thing and I see no reason why devs should hide better ai behind difficulty setting.
So yeah, its always going to be cheats
>It's still playing by the same rules
A person can calculate a couple of moves a second
A computer can calculate over 100,000 moves a second
It's not even close to being fair, computer cheats
>It's not even close to being fair
Yeah, because it's better than you. Not my fault you're slow.
Blacks have 85 IQ on average and Whites, 100, but we still (are supposed to) live by the same laws. What you're effectively arguing for is "affirmative action"

t. moron
Do you just shuffle pieces around without and plan? Strategies are a huge part of chess if you're not playing against a fricking 5 year old.
lol no, AI gets free stats up its ass to the point that peasants can hold against dismounted knights and you have to kill every single one because they don't rout.
No that‘s rome 1.The AI in med2 get cheat bonuses in the campaign and auto resolve. The battle difficulty has almost no effect ,it only gives a bit more moral and stamina.
BAR. The computer opponent is fond of rushing and wasting your time as you try to catch that scout. I guess it's built on years of TA meta. Seriously, it looks like every good RTS AI is taught whatever the human players came up first.
I wonder how hard it would be to train AI using machine learning. I know it's an extreme buzzword at this point, but if it can do this:
Surely it could also figure out the more complex mechanics of a strategy game if given enough time.
Taking an RTS as an example, you could give it the tools to build units/buildings and tell it what things are desirable/undesirable (killing enemy units = good, losing untis = bad, losing buildings = even worse, etc), then have it train against "normal" AI.
Is there any reason why it wouldn't develop a human-like playstyle?
Because it would be better than human. You don't want AI that's really good at winning, you want AI that's fun to play against. See for example how F.E.A.R. AI was praised to be really good when in reality it just used smoke and mirrors tacticool radio communication to appear smart.
That's aside from training being prohibitively expensive and being unable to tweak anything. Okay so you patched the game and now it's different, time to retrain your model all over again.
When will /vst/ learn that players are shit at knowing what they want?
>See for example how F.E.A.R. AI was praised to be really good when in reality it just used smoke and mirrors tacticool radio communication to appear smart.
In what way does this example support your argument?
>See for example how F.E.A.R. AI was praised to be really good when in reality it just used smoke and mirrors tacticool radio communication to appear smart.
F.E.A.R. also introduced goal-oriented action planning to videogames, so they actually DID add something new and unique as well.
I want good AI in video games. It doesn't have to be amazing, it just has to keep my attention. XCOM does this great, as making a mistake is usually punished, and there is always a element of risk.
It's just a bunch of skill issue devs who say 'we dont want it'. I don't have the time to commit to long matches of multiplayer in larger strategy games that are not an RTS.
You're so fricking stupid.
Why would you think they wouldn't use the best AI possibly no matter what difficulty it's set to? You think they're gonna write a whole other stupider AI for each difficulty level?
>"You think they're gonna write a whole other stupider AI for each difficulty level?" >when the problem is that hard level AI is already fricking moronic and just gets handed free resources and units to make up for it
nobody needs them to write dumber AI when the AI is already too dumb to function you ESL, we want SMARTER AI that doesn't need to cheat
Warrior Kings battles. Original warrior kings had shit AI but it got revamped in battles. Underrated game in my opinion with small cult fanbase that is actually making mods for it. The AI never cheats and can put up a decent fight unless you really know the game and can just steamroll them.
In all honesty, writing AI is a very difficult thing and I see no reason why devs should hide better ai behind difficulty setting.

chess
>Increasing the depth allows the AI to use more computing power to make more complex calculations
wrong again chud
Not wrong. It's still playing by the same rules that you are. It doesn't get more pieces or a longer move timer.
>It's still playing by the same rules

But a machine doesn't have a heart and never will. You can win if you believe in yourself.
Go back
Its been a rough day for you, both your grandfathers fricking your arse. Its okay, you will get over it, eventually.
You still need to go back.
>being smarter is cheating
chess isn't a strategy game, it's turn-based tactics
>chess isn't a strategy game

apparently it's only strategy if there's an economy and you produce units
otherwise it's tactics
blitzkrieg 3
age of empires 2 definitive edition
This
AoE2:DE's AI is built on decades of meta data and build orders and will kick your ass.
No it won't. Since it can't spawn in additional resources, you can palisade rush and M@A flood to your heart's content.
I'm sure OP will still lose regardless.
You don't even know me you daft mouthbreathing c**t.
Planetary Annihilation. It's supposedly powered by a neural net.
>Cat image
>moronic bait
Like a clock.
90% of RTS. It just prevents AI from sending single unit for attack and/or makes it far more proactive.
Medieval 2 Total War just ups AI capabilities iirc

That's what Google did with AlphaStar. The result was pretty good, but not exactly human-like.
Because it would be better than human. You don't want AI that's really good at winning, you want AI that's fun to play against. See for example how F.E.A.R. AI was praised to be really good when in reality it just used smoke and mirrors tacticool radio communication to appear smart.

In what way does this example support your argument?
Player's don't want competent AI, they want AI that appears competent while still is weaker than the players.
>See for example how F.E.A.R. AI was praised to be really good when in reality it just used smoke and mirrors tacticool radio communication to appear smart.

AoE2 DE
Terra Invicta. Turning up the difficulty mostly makes the AI consider you more of a threat.
Emperor of the Fading Suns. Turning up difficulty just makes you have less trait points and also affects ruin difficulty now I believe.
I want good AI in video games. It doesn't have to be amazing, it just has to keep my attention. XCOM does this great, as making a mistake is usually punished, and there is always a element of risk.

Yes.
