spoony has been quite open about exaggerating his hate for ff8 and he is also open about the series getting worse after 8, he just didn't play any of them except X so never reviewed them
DMC2 isn't an awful game, its just extremely mediocre, which 1 was anything but.
If it wasn't the follow up to DMC1 it would have been remembered better, but they really did frick up hard pushing this out as the sequel to the game that redefined an entire genre.
Yeah, I agree.
It's too painful to even remember that they could make Tomba1 and then destroy its legacy with that bucket of liquid shit.
Maybe it's just better to argue about silly things like "FFVIII is the worst game ever!!!" "No, you silly boy, it's FFX!!!" "Noooooo"
At least we can hide the pain
I love Tomba. I still replay it at least once every 5 years... I keep the memories, but I refresh them from time to time....
So many happy moments...
Oh, my feels....
Why do you no like Tomba 2? The voice acting is cringe but can be turned off. Overall it felt more "complete" than Tomba 1. Tomba 1 was amazing in the beginning but felt rushed towards the end. We know there was lots of cut content.
I think prime is one of the better examples, a lot of Nintendo's IP sequels/spinoffs were less interesting with better graphics and sound on the gamecube. It's not what I wanted out of Metroid but it was still fun and shared elements of the the 2d games.
Not a bad game but it's not what most people wanted or even expected as a followup to Mario 64. It's also easy and short, a simplified version of survival horror with less obtuse puzzles. Maybe in an alternate timeline they release one of these games for the snes or gameboy when Ghostbusters is still relevant in pop culture, top down puzzle game somewhere between adventures of lolo and zelda and people would be excited to see Luigis Mansion 3d instead of "it's not Mario 3D 2."
I still don't get what this game was going for. It was trying to be a game that was like "throw it all away, burn the past" but only ever had references to Ocarina like that was the only game that came before it. The fact the official timeline indicates how Ocarina was the only game to happen before it completely damns its own themes of leaving the past behind when it doesn't even know what its past is
Plus it's unfinished and the puzzle islands are just like Shrines. Some of the worst ideas I've ever seen in any game as a follow up to one of the most important games in Nintendo's library (same with Sunshine)
>official timeline
Fanfic garbage that was only ever adoped by Nintendo due to how memed it was in the late 00s/eairly 10s
When the zelda games were made from gen 3-5 consoles, it was never done with the notion of an actual time line. Every game (with the exception of Link's Adventure, and Majora's Mask) was it's own self encapsulated thing. Like a retelling of the same myth over and other.
That's even more moronic fanfiction. Every Zelda game was either a direct sequel or prequel to one-another until this moronic ass game
>OoT-MM-Zelda 1-2-ALttP-Link's Awakening
That was the intended timeline. None of this "split timeline" shit. The Link to the Past was the Master Sword originating from Ocarina's story yet feature a new generation of Link and Zelda post-Zelda 1+2. It's pretty damn easy to read the text of these games and see this was more or less what the Zelda team were doing until Wind Waker fricked it all up
No, there never was. Hence why there was so fricking many "time line theory" pages on the internet in the 00s
Example
https://web.archive.org/web/20080713133759/http://www.zeldauniverse.net/timeline-theory/
There was an interview from one of the Nintendo devs at the time that even echoed exactly what I stated, that Zelda was meant to be a "lore" retold over ages, changing with each story teller, not one continual story. But since so much of the internet of even 10 years ago is gone, I've never been able to find it again.
Here is another western timeline theory site
https://web.archive.org/web/20110713124816/http://zeldatimeline.com/
Go to the very bottem, the image even fricking notes Nintendo's denial of a timeline
Zelda 2 and Majora were direct sequels. Link's Awakening is a sequel but the story doesn't really matter what it takes place after (it could be 1, 2, ALttP or Majora but really it makes the most sense after ALttP)
The "retelling the legend" aspect wasn't really applicable when the only time you could say it happened was ALttP. Ocarina was designed as an origin story for ALttP and the Master Sword is the Link to the Past that the game is talking about. There were only 3 major Zelda (1/ALttP/OoT) installments before Wind Waker diarrhea dumped all over the franchise
That guiding idea worked in some of the game's superficial aspects, obviously the graphics but also building a game around sailing. But while they nailed those two features, it doesn't seem like any time was left for making a proper followup to OoT.
Then of course they over-corrected with TP, "Fine! Here's your damn Ocarina 2!" Which is flawed in a very different way but I enjoy it more than WW.
i think WW couldve been really fricking good if they had bothered to make any dungeons for it
gameplay-wise its a nice game to control, theres just only a handful of places where its even worth it to learn the mechanics
OoT had a similar problem with its accidentally really good combat system, but almost nothing challenging enough to test your ability to use it.
at least in OoTs case the game had enough dungeons for you to chew on
GF junctioning was basically just an overly convoluted, extremely tedious, and much less fun/rewarding version of FFVs job system. idk why they ever decided to ditch that
sure V had you grinding for job levels too, but for one, grinding actually meant fighting and winning battles. in VIII, if you didnt fight as few random encounters as you could, and spent the few battles you DID take spamming draw 50x, then you were basically just making yourself weaker
i also dont like how the draw mechanic de-incentivized use of your magic. sure you COULD use your drawn esunas to keep your party healthy in a long boss fight. but youre literally making your stats worse and good luck trying to find the like 2 random encounters in the game that you can draw more from without a guide
on one hand, the mechanic encouraged experimentation, and i like that. but unlike FFV where such experiments would always feel rewarding due to your increased stats/abilities, VIII would frequently frick you over for it without warning >oh you used all your life spells? >too fricking bad bro wait until disc 2 and maybe you can find another encounter that even has them
its just a stupid convoluted way of accomplishing the thing they had already figured out how to do several games prior
>>i also dont like how the draw mechanic de-incentivized use of your magic. sure you COULD use your drawn esunas to keep your party healthy in a long boss fight
You can use magic without losing too much stats. Besides that, it isn't that hard to keep your magic at a good amount. Outside of a few ones that are generally the best magic to junction, you can find most magic without having to spam draw, because most mobs drop items that you can turn into magic. You can also buy items which you can use as an alternative to magic or even turn those items into magic
Besides, most mobs don't require magic that much. Some healing here and there, elemental magic in certain situations, scan when you don't know a certain enemy, esuna is rarely needed outside of bosses or mini-bosses and even against them it isn't like you'll end up using a bunch of esuna unless you're playing like a complete moron
I will agree with you with the GF junctioning system though. It's kinda tedious, especially when you have to constantly re-arrange them due to Laguna's segments and switching members.
>Final Fantasy X-2 >Mega Man X7 >Super Mario Sunshine >Classic Mega Man II on Gameboy >Breath of Fire VI >MMBN4 (especially Blue Moon) >Blood 2: The Chosen

Ff9 really was uninspired trash. Shitty uninspired wannabe ff6
FF8cucks seething nonstop about 9 and spoony (someone who hasn't been remotely relevant in like 2 decades) will never not be funny. So pathetic.
spoony has been quite open about exaggerating his hate for ff8 and he is also open about the series getting worse after 8, he just didn't play any of them except X so never reviewed them
I don't care about his opinions. I'm saying 8gays still seething about him is funny, that's all.
Came into this thread expecting this as the first post. Never fail to disappoint /vr/ top kek
oof
mentally ill
crash bash following CTR
I raise you both the Spyro version
I wonder how many people expecting an epic journey like FF7 got duped by this utter shit.
Any classic reactions or forum posts of the disappointment?
What's so bad about it? (keep in mind I hate the final fantasy series gameplay)
Lol yeah not a fan of this one
>getting your opinions from a youtuber this obviously

You cant
this one always baffled me
Just a rushed game
If they polished it it would go from 5/10 to a 7/10 instantly
Is there a PS2 iso modding community?
DMC modders wouldn't know what to do with it aside from adding pointless comboshit.
This is one of those sequels that you can't even have bait/contrarian morons like ds2 fans, its just that bad
DMC2 isn't an awful game, its just extremely mediocre, which 1 was anything but.

It was still fun
Tomba 2
I would really prefer if you'd be quiet

Only real nibbas remember the disappointment
FF13 irreversibly fricks up the whole series.
By having the best combat since FFV?
ff8 was the start of the end for square
Not sure if you're asking for sequels on the same console or not

Majora's Mask
Card game with a complimentary RPG
Triple Triad was also shit, random rule ruins it
You're right. I can't. Game is trash.
When the plotline jumped the shark.
FFX. Jpop asiaticbrain nonsense quite literally killed the franchise.
I liked the first Xenosaga quite a lot, but the second one was so horrible that I didn't bother with the third one, even though it's a direct sequel.
not retro BUT

How about these:

>Mega Man X7
>Super Mario Sunshine
>Classic Mega Man II on Gameboy
>Breath of Fire VI
>MMBN4 (especially Blue Moon)
>Blood 2: The Chosen
>Mega Man II on Gameboy
My main complaint about that is the ear-rape.
X-2 is far better than FFX
truly dogshit
FFVIII tried so hard to be the Wong Kar Wai of Final Fantasies
Dreams, memories, chance, fate, and destiny are recurring themes
Really didn't like how enemies were same level as the player
Yoshi’s Story and Kirby 64 will always be the most disappointing for me
