Need a 3D turn based JRPG that feels/plays similar to FF7-FF10 that preferably isn't in a typical fantasy setting.

Lost Odyssey is the true FF13 in mine and many others eyes.

shadow hearts and shadow hearts covenant. their design ethos is from the playstation era and they are decidedly ludokino.

      Even Koudelka.

Koudelka is one of my favorite games of all time and Shadow Hearts is pretty good too. Shadow hearts is for use more traditional in the gameplay terms than compared to Koudelka which is has odd SRPG grid battles

      Even Koudelka.

Seconding Shadow Hearts. Playing 1 right now and it's the most atypical setting I can think of, it's an alternative history set in pre-world war 1 asiaeurope and features a plot based around around occult magic and political intrigue. Combat is actually very engaging to with their timing based hit system that you can manipulate in a multitude of ways.

        >Combat is actually very engaging
Only gets better in the subsequent two games, which add juggling, combos and positioning elements.

Xenogears, Xenosaga, Digital Devil Saga... I mean if it's not fantasy it's probably science fiction. Parasite Eve, Persona... a few RPGs with contemporary settings. Star Ocean, a blend of sci-fi and fantasy

Damn, OP. Shadow Hearts would almost fit perfectly if it weren't for the attack ring QTE.

Lost Odyssey is an evolution of the system used in FFX, with the progression system from FFIX. LotR: The Third Age is an almost 1:1 FFX LotR clone, which is hilarious.

She right through. Compare the battle length in FF10 and LO. The latter doesn't respect the players time.

You can melt the enemy in 30 seconds. The original disc-based version had insane loading times. Not an issue for the digital/emulated version. LO has an exp curve that discourages grinding.
