The entire reason behind Lao's betrayal is the selective nature of the project, both on who boards the White Whale and who gets to live on in a Mimeosome. Ganglion is also portrayed correctly, you can clearly tell they have great control over the vast space, the other alien races do point at this plenty of times. Again im not saying its a good thing to change things but in the case of XCX there's not total replacement or downright removal of context, lore or dialog, its not perfect but its not horrible either.

Im not for one to side with extreme liberties in localizations but XCX really wasnt hurt as much as other Nintendo/Other titles. You dont need to look far, just look at any Fire Emblem title. XCX and Xenoblade in general has it way easier in comparison. If you replay or watch a playthrough again you'll notice many things that will make you go "Ayooo wtf, did they really allow this?!?!?" Censorship of any kind is wrong yes, but with Nintendo in between all this, we take what we can get and Xenoblade has it good compared to others.

Before that, it got ported to PC by Ghostlight who didn't uncensor the game despite being able to. Just changing hands to a different publisher isn't enough. It's still a miracle Mugen Soul got uncensored.
It will also remain funny how the 2nd game, which was also censored, flopped so HARD in the west but even then NISA refused to uncensor it but instead lazy patched in the CGs in hopes they could trick people. Didn't work.
