i pirated storm 4 because i had good memories of playing 3 on X360, and the story/chronology doesn't make any sense, isn't there a game that spans the entire story from start to finish in a coherent order? would be better than rehashing the same game or fragmenting it across multiple $60+ packages and dlcs.
maybe I should just pirate the 3 others and play in order instead.

It does.
It starts with Hashirama VS Madara (which happens ages before the beginning of Naruto) as a prologue and then resumes the Part 2 story from after Naruto fought the bijuus, because what came afterward in Storm 3 was all noncanon filler that CC2 had to put in to avoid spoiling the anime-onlies.

Its retelling of the Naruto story is composed of slideshows like the first half of Storm 4's story mode and copy-pasted boss battles from the 4 main games, but it's complete. It goes over everything from the beginning of Part 1 to the end of Part 2.

Yup. Storm 2 to 4 are the best way to experience the Part 2 story, just ignore the noncanon end of Storm 3 and you're golden.

If you care about reliving the story past Storm 2, go play Storm 3 and 4.
If you just care about using lots of characters, play either Storm 4 or Connections.

Calling it a new Naruto game is too much. It's just a rehash of the last 4 Storm games with dumb down story and gameplay.
I understand why they would want so many characters in one game. For one, because people want them. For another, because the more chatracters you have in a game like this, the more diverse and fun it is. The choice for supports and team combos is vast and is going to be better with DLC.
Looking at it as a fighting game you're abobawde right. I'm just disappointed that it's just another fighting game and not a story focused one like CyberConnect did with DBZ: Kakarot which was amazing... and they had the opportunity to do it this time, but decide to not to.

This was the last chance to finally get a proper adaptation of Young Naruto's story now that the Sound 4 are playable.
I didn't expect CC2 to do it, but I'm still disappointed by the fact they decided not to do it.
They didnt do it because they just copy and pasted every old battle in story mode. All the time and focus went into the fighting mechanics. They even forgot to add in Friend battle on the online options. You can only play ranked battles..

The game has already been uploaded to 50 different websites and easily cracked because it has no Denuvo, so there'd be no real loss if they decided to remove the game from Steam.
Steam would benefit by having one less lazily put together full priced product to worry about, on the other hand.

This series will always hold a special, nostalgic place in my heart.
I got Naruto Generations in high school and got invited to join a clan that was almost all black weebs after I did well in a tournament. We would hang out in party chat and do chunin exams, clan battles, and recruit new people to the clan.
What a fun time that was and it's a shame to see how low this game has fallen toa point where you can't even play with friends online.
It gave us the new best girl, but apart from that Online is barebones with crucial mechanics such as custom matches ain't there.
No Rollback and Crossplay options either.
