Normally i'd suggest gog but seeing as you're likely migrating from console and asking a question as moronic as this, you need your hand held by steam as much as possible when it comes to keeping your save files and other shit intact.

i am not, i am a professional console player and debian admin
If it is sold on GOG, it's not really abandonware. Or at least, was scooped up by a different IP holder and repackaged on GOG. Archive.org is your best bet for real abandonware. Plus it has torrent trackers.
every time I see his face I think of this dog and laugh
epic games store is pretty okay if you just use it for the freebies
literally no reason to buy anything on it if the game is available on other stores thoughever
Humble bundle is also something you should keep your eye on. Usually they won't be offering much of interest in the bundles but sometimes you can come across some real gems and get them for an absolute steal.
Steam and GOG are good but the most important thing you can do is DO YOUR RESEARCH. There are some games where you'd absolutely want to buy them on steam, particularly if it's a game with mods that are exclusive to steam workshop. Then there are games you'd absolutely want to AVOID on steam due to incompatibility with purchases on other platforms, missing content, or the game just being packaged with bullshit like a third party launcher or drm.
Also ignore EGS because
Do you really wanna buy your games from this creepy old motherfricker? It's literally just steam but with less features.
>particularly if it's a game with mods that are exclusive to steam workshop
there are programs that allow you to use steam workshop mods without having a steam account.
It used to be easier but it's gotten harder over the years and some games make it borderline impossible. Stellaris is an example that comes to mind. I play it disconnected from steam because i pirate the DLC and paradox changed it so it gets flagged as you not owning it, but i HAVE to use my steam copy of the game to actually grab workshop mods since nothing else worked for me. It's more convenient that way anyway as I use a lot of mods and it's pretty difficult to find what's been updated and what mods depend on other mods without browsing the workshop itself.
Stellaris is a pretty unique example though since paradox has also tried to frick things up with their own launcher. Games like rimworld are relatively painless to grab workshop mods for in comparison.
Very specifically, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on GOG for the Complete version. The steam "HD" version is straight out fricking messed up and terrible.
It's probably going to be Microsoft Steam after Gabe dies off and it's sold off, honestly. It's outright a damn cliche at this point that companies that have lofty idealistic goals are immediatly flipped by the current holder to get as much money as possible. Seems to happen every time.
>Seems to happen every time.
No shit. Everyone can smell where the world is going with the israelites at the rudder. Third world war is upon us soon and the rich won't stick around in the open while they wait for the masses to kill eachother off.
Steam it's basically not even a question, Epic has terrible service, GOG despite being dumb enough to actually give you a full repository explicitly doesn't actually believe you own your own games and have explicitly stated that they will fail to meet their contractual obligations regarding your purchase if they don't like you.
The only way you'll have a bad tim on steam is if you use a stolen credit card.
No, I USED to tolerate GOG for games based on the niche benefit of being a DRM free store.
However it became the case that games started having DRM, in addition, they changed their policy to breach their contract with you to recognize your purchases from them.
I'm not putting up with worse service than an abandonware website for a company that decided I can just not own my vidya because they're cranky.
oh you're a fricking homosexual anon.
read the actual list and what they're trying to claim is "DRM".

Their service is shit
And they won't even honor their contractual obligations having sold software to you

Read the damn list you disingenuous moron.
Or since you're intentionally misleading, anyone else should look at the list. I honestly thought you were serious to begin with, too.
None of these are torrent clients
fippy bippy
Steam for sales
GoG for old games
Qbittorrent for everything inbetween
Normally i'd suggest gog but seeing as you're likely migrating from console and asking a question as moronic as this, you need your hand held by steam as much as possible when it comes to keeping your save files and other shit intact.

steam, gog, and itch.io
Thepiratebay
Steam, but pirate if you are in doubt.
GOG for older abandonware.
EGS is for laughing at.

I stand corrected, thanks!
It's a fricking PC, OP.
It's not a console. You're not beholden to a single store. It's not the only Wal-mart in your neighborhood.
>It's not a console. You're not beholden to a single store
Tell that to the Steam drones here
Uhhh yeah all those PC stores like GOG... and EGS... and uhhhh....
itch.io if you like indie games made by literal whos
Itch.io is a store? Ive bought maybe 1 game from them because some indie game listed it as the dl site on their webpage
>itch.io is a store? I bought something from them
you're not very bright are you
for me it's DLSite.
DMM has been real dicky lately.
Steam offer the best service on the videogame market.
GOG is okay as well.

Steam, and GOG for games that are sold as broken on Steam.
Very specifically, Heroes of Might and Magic 3 on GOG for the Complete version. The steam "HD" version is straight out fricking messed up and terrible.
The one that will still exist in 10 years

when your economic system incentivizes profit above all else then that's bound to happen
You can use all of them, this is why computers are superior, they do not lock you down to just one choice.

anon, what games on GOG have DRM.
don't lie about shit.

t. shit eater
steam is superior it’s not even a contest
GOG is the only option.
Everything else is glorified DRM.
None. They are all the enemy of games. Pirate, pay devs directly.
Explain this GOG gays
you own it but you don't have the right to duplicate it for other people to play too. pretty easy to understand because people were doing wrong.
Abusing their good will punishes the good people.
GOG and Steam are best imo
>Console wars for PC players
Steam for anything that's got it
GOG for niche or older shit that's not on Steam
Pirate everything else that isn't on either platform
