The drama surrounding this is baffling and really shows a degradation of the player base of games as a whole. From those weird autists of speed runners who get a joy out of "beating" a game in 33 seconds by exploiting a glitch of walking into a wall to the moronic amount of attention let me solo her got for beating a boss any reasonably decent schmuck could do in under 5 tries and now this where some people randomly decide to mod a game that really has very little to add as it's a very linear singleplayer game unlike fallout or an elder scrolls game and they act like they developed nier 3 or added something actually worth all the time they've spent for what I'm guessing is 15 minutes of fame from a niche community of a semi popular jrpg from 5+ years ago. I greatly enjoyed both niers and was interested that someone possibly found something the devs put in as a secret like the previous thing with the barrels and I'm impressed that some random people were able to do what they did but again why? Wouldn't it have been better for those modders to actually try to develop a game?

As I understand from this thread, some gays said that they found some hidden content in the game and then it ended up being just a mod. Why the shitstorm? People tear apart souls games and keep finding some pieces in the files after years, and nobody loses their pants over it.
There's none, people said it was fake, other people tried to force like it wasn't.
It came out it was fake, people said "haha dumb it's real homosexuals" and then 2-4 people started spamming the thread.
Because it ended with a discord server plug and people were pissed off that it wasn't just a little post but a lie that was pushed for several months and anyone who argued that it was a mod was discouraged from pursuing that line of thought through lies and deceit.

First impressions are really good, tutorial music gave me goosebumps already and the UI blending into gameplay/story is really cool that I'm surprised more games don't do this. Combat seems alright, not DMC tier but it's satisfying

They worked for several months on a small self-contained area in the blandest possible place, it's doubtful that the tools can be used for something more substantial. Maybe if they were worked on by someone more competent like the furry instead.
There are no mod tools and there's no interest in making map mods to begin with even if the tools are released.
The stunt was only made for the sake of it and nothing will be gained, everyone lost.

I feel like anybody who thinks this matters barely ever uses mods. What do you expect people to make with this? Nier is a linear story-based game. Even games that have been out for far longer, with far more extensive mod support, that are primarily played for the core gameplay, and that only need a new level made to feel fresh rarely get quality content on par with the main game made for them. A game like MGSV getting a level editor could be promising. A game like Nier getting it is almost worthless.
Not even the modders know what to do with it.
At best we'll get some challenge dungeons but nier's combat and movement isn't interesting enough to make custom content take off.

The answer is almost certainly zero. To me an interesting mod for this game would have to have at least some custom areas and some new enemies and shit. But I imagine trying to get custom enemies in and multiple of them at that, would be balancing hell as there's a shitton of things to take in to consideration given how the combat in this game is. I do not see a quality or interesting mod that isn't coomshit or a cosmetic change anytime soon.

I like when people find hidden Easter eggs because it shows some devs still care enough to add something for those invested in the product and that players. The game has been datamined pretty thoroughly, last time someone found a secret from it was years ago and SE pretty much threw them a twitter parade over it, no surprise people get a whiff of another secret and start trying their hardest to chase it up.

I feel like anybody who thinks this matters barely ever uses mods. What do you expect people to make with this? Nier is a linear story-based game. Even games that have been out for far longer, with far more extensive mod support, that are primarily played for the core gameplay, and that only need a new level made to feel fresh rarely get quality content on par with the main game made for them. A game like MGSV getting a level editor could be promising. A game like Nier getting it is almost worthless.
Not even the modders know what to do with it.
At best we'll get some challenge dungeons but nier's combat and movement isn't interesting enough to make custom content take off.

The answer is almost certainly zero. To me an interesting mod for this game would have to have at least some custom areas and some new enemies and shit. But I imagine trying to get custom enemies in and multiple of them at that, would be balancing hell as there's a shitton of things to take in to consideration given how the combat in this game is. I do not see a quality or interesting mod that isn't coomshit or a cosmetic change anytime soon.

To be fair, your idealized post is calm and sensible, but the post they're quoting is a mass reply, which always comes off as being pissy and obnoxious. So while I agree partially, both kinda deserve eachother.
