Flower lore got revealed in Reincarnation, I'm a bit out of the loop so if I'm wrong I hope someone will correct me. Far future scientist tries to resurrect a lunar tear which has since gone extinct, accidentally creates the Black Flower, the Black Flower eventually travels from Nier timeline into Drakengard timeline via catching a ride when Cathedral City somehow makes the jump, Black Flower is what causes Zero and the intoners, and then we continue as the games chronically unfold from there until the lunar tear is extinct again.

I played up until the end of the first story arc, which was the little girl with the alien-bug-thing as the framing narrative and had additional stories told with them learning things. So I'm not sure if more has been revealed or anything, I know there was a pair of characters that were fighting literal flowers unrelated to the future scientist I mentioned, there was also a dragon at one point but I can't remember the context, and a time limited event showed one of the many deaths of 9S at the hands of 2B which I remember was an interesting scene.
I remember this being a good video covering most of the game narratively, but there's been more chapters since this video. I wouldn't recommend playing the game though, just wait for someone to hopefully recap it on youtube.

And so the actual reason to watch, play, etc. things in the original language is because that voice cast had the most direct influence and guidance from the people who created that particular piece of media. Which means a dub can be good so long as the original creators are involved. FLCL's English dub was made with the direct involvement of Gainax and Production IG, and it shows. But most dubs aren't like that, and so most are kind of shit.

I'm usually one for reading subtitles and original audio, But I can't do Nier and Nier Automata with subs, especially considering there's dialogue during combat. You can rewind a film, but you can't really a video game.

Drakengard narratively is unlike anything I've ever played and it's 21 years old now, it's just actively opposing that the JRPG hero who murders everyone to save the day could be a good person and gets fricking wild from there due to post-Evangelion homages and Yoko Taro thinking he would never get another game after it so he included all the endings thought while working on the game.
Replicant was celebrated at the time of release due to attempting to make the 'Ocarina of Time formula'/JRPG hero's journey (it's literally Ocarina of Time boys think about it) into not the righteous hero saving the day but two opposing sides who are justified in their goals and actions but end up dooming everything. I'm mixed on it today personally as I think the replay system aged poorly however I could see in 2010 the idea of basically new game+ adding more narrative being mind blowing.
Drakengard 3 people usually have mixed feelings on more so than other entries, but all 3 of these games weren't really "good". They were extremely fricking close to being simply "good", but various budget and design issues held them back, they were carried by the narratives and characters.
Then Automata comes out with a decent budget, solid gameplay, and a tragic love story starring and big fat ass and also a patented Yoko Taro MurderHobo protagonist finally made the games cross all the way from "play it for the story/watch it on youtube" tier all the way into "one of the most celebrated video games ever made".
tl;dr the series was a rough diamond, Automata was an outright diamond and celebrates/utilises vidya techniques in ways I still haven't seen recent games come close to yet.

Nier replicant and automata are both on PC now. Just play them in that order.
Start with either Replicant or Automata, you can come back to Drakengard 1 and 3 later.
Replicant is good, it's caveat is I just fricking hate it's narrative presentation after the first ending, actively dragged the game down for me.
Starting with Automata is the easiest to get into and it's the best game in the series but playing it without Rep will mean you'll miss on some payoffs but I played Automata first and loved it without those payoffs at the time.

I was watching the footage of the twisting room and it looks almost identical to the twisting hallway in Forest Temple and in Clock Tower in Zelda. What if this is just a mod for OOTPC using some splices or something? OoT is pretty easy to hack and the PC engine update should make it easy to replace models. You can easily splice some footage from there of the two games or even just make a green room and greenscreen it.

The twisting hallway isn't hard. You just make a normal hallway and map one end of its coords to be 90 degrees askew of what you would do normally. The hallway will bend intself into the shape you tell it to.
