even "peak" pokemon is mediocre garbage. Gamefreak is incompetent, all they can do well is pace the exp flow, evolutions and new moves in such a way that small children brains feel like they're progressing. But that's literally a one and done thing. Once you get those numbers right, you can just reuse them for all the games that follow.

Mario Kart DS has something. MK7 is boring trash compared to it and MK8D just has a different feel. MKDS has something neither of those games have. MK8D is objectively better, and I probably played more of it than DS, but DS has that nostalgia feel and really cool graphics. Low res and blocky models, but very competent low res and blocky models. I also really like its physics.

The DS was the peak of videogames because it was at a point where portables were powerful enough for you to have basically any experience you wanted on the system but still affordable enough to develop for that studios were okay with trying to make games that weren't market-tested focus group approved shlock.
That's why purely portable systems were always the most kino, sad to see that die out now. Now all those creative smaller teams are either going bankrupt or switching to mobile.

It's basically rhythm heaven in that you play rhythm based minigames to unlock more rhythm based minigames. Only downside is that several tracks are repeated throughout the game instead of every single minigame having its own unique music

It was annoying having to clean the handprint from the glossy finish on a DSi XL, but otherwise didn't mind at all, felt better that way if the game was gonna be 100% touchscreen based because it didn't leave my other hand sore

It depends, on one hand, they always had IPS screens, and 2D games look better on it than anything else before or after it, but aliasing is way much more noticeable on 3D games

When I try to emulate Infinite Space on nds bootstrap for 3DS only the first save slot works and doesn't corrupt. Is this kind of normal? I don't want to spend hours on a game just for it to corrupt later.

It's been 17 years anon, anyone who is or was even remotely intrested in playing or talking about DS games have already done so.
Not to mention, the PC emulators are kind of shitty for DS at the moment, but if you own any android device that came out in the last 5ish years you should be able to play every single DS game that has ever existed at 720p+, with enhanced textures/3D models and with whatever controller you want using DraStic.
I'd actually recommend playing like this instead of buying original hardware and I actually completed the (excellent) Chrono Trigger DS remake using my phone, an 8bitdo controller and a chromecast that I screenshared/streamed my phone to my tv at 1080p. Probably the best way to experience Chrono trigger right now imo

Yeah Desmune is great it could run 999 when my flashcart couldn't.
It's more that DraStic is so far beyond any other DS emulator that by comparison they all sort of look like shit.
Not to mention that most of the PC emulators have inflated sys req and have some huge problems with upscaling/enhancing textures and 3D models. I could play any DS game I wanted at 720p+better 3D models on my shitty old ZTE phone from 2012, but my laptop would struggle with even the most basic upscaling while being able to emulate Gamecube and PS2 at 720p just fine at the time, it made no sense and the performance difference is still there last I checked
