>no spooky games thread for halloween month
Let's fix that. What are ya playan, Ganker?
Also, reminder that a game doesn't have to scare you to be considered Horror.

I'm playing Rondo of Blood right now on the PSP and it's a fine game but I wish it was more like Super Castlevania 4 in that the whip actually went in multiple directions.
>reminder that a game doesn't have to scare you to be considered Horror
Then what's the point? I wouldn't consider Castlevania horror at all, it's more like parody with all the 1930s monsters thrown together in one castle like they're having some kind of crazy get together.
>Then what's the point?
Horror and macabre is thematically cool.
Even if it’s not part of the horror genre it’s still very much horror-themed.
Thank you for missing the joy in everything, jackass
>it's not scary unless it has jumpscares
>jumpscares are cheap
Why are you gays always the same person and always show up in every discussion about anything related to horror? Go back to your CRT autist containment thread.
gothic works are a pillar of horror history, theming is as associated with horror as terror is

MA homie
Gonna play through the best RE game again, Aresident evil.
Shade Man's stage is the only enjoyable stage in the entire game. Truly the worst mainline classic game
for another thread I guess, but as much as I like his stage, I find it kind of weak. not a whole lot of platforming on it compared to the others in the game
Something about Silent Hill 4 really unnerves me more than Silent Hill 2 ever did. Everything just feels different from the first 3 entries, I kinda like it.
Its concept deserves better than the product. It unironically needs to be remade, but I don't know who I'd trust with it outside of the original staff.
I played Symphony of the Night and really liked it, so I started Rondo of Blood because it's in the same collection but it's too hard.
>what are ya playan?
Finishing up on the Castlevania GBA trilogy for the first time. Already got done with CoTM and Aria of Sorrow, going through HoD and really enjoying trekking through the Skeleton Caves. Kinda disappointed the enemies are so slow and stupid, though this applies to pretty much all of the Castlevania Metroidvanias. Want to try out some fun/goofy spooky games like MediEvil and looking for suggestions.
RoB and other Classicvanias need you to figure each enemies attack pattern and stage layout, just take your time and come up with a strategy that works, then it's just keeping yourself consistent from there.
It is payday.
Where my Splatterbros at?
Terrible game.
Wrong.
2 is ok. Maybe SD, as well. Every other game has terrible gameplay. All (cringe) flash and no substance.
The reboot has all 3 original games. Also there is a splatterhouse doom mod that looks good.
I grabbed a copy of the reboot for PS3 a while back, because I got really into the old games and was curious. It's kind of lingered on my shelf for a while though, because life shat on me some.
I understand that it's a really troubled game, but which also has a few bright glimmers too, and I wanted to see it for myself. Since it has the original trilogy, that was decent incentive to get it at any rate.
there was a Halloween thread last week but some janny deleted it for who knows what reason.
anyways im almost done a play through of eternal darkness. after that i think im going to pop in the first silent hill since I've never played it
Sometimes I see completely random posts get deleted in some threads, and I think that's because someone shitted so hard that the mods wiped all their posts, because that happened to me once.
>eternal darkness
How's that one? I always thought that one seemed cool, but I never had a Game Cube.
it's pretty good especially for a 3rd party GameCube exclusive. the level design is a little more linear than i remember, but the atmosphere is still great and the overall production is solid. combat is a little stiff but not difficult to get used to. it's also a lot easier than your average resident evil game. i definitely recommend checking it out.
I just 1CC'd Castlevania 1 again. Still got it in me, though I am ashamed at how many lives I lost due to execution errors.
Always try to play this around Halloween. I'm a simple man, and spooky clown scare me.
/doom/ is in the process of making a spooky levelset for Halloween, if you're interested.
It's not, particularly because you're a badass hero who can fight and defeat the monsters in combat, but it still has spooky trappings, leaning a lot on gothic horror concepts and visuals.
Kind of like how Doom, Splatterhouse, or Blood aren't horror games in any real sense, but they're steeped heavily in horror trappings, and occasionally get spooky.
>game doesn't have to scare you to be considered Horror.
Agree. But Castlevania is nowhere near the horror genre.
