noita plays more like rogue than most supposed rogue"likes"
what made rogue rogue wasn't shallow, surface level shit like turn based combat or text-based graphics.

                >noo! there are unlocks!
All of which are completely inconsequential when the goal-setting, world model structure, pace and play time are equivalent. if you got caught up on surface level shit, i'm sorry you're a midwit. it's good that you didn't get into game design.

noita isn't mario. the fact that the thing you reach for in analogy is something which is only related in the most trivial, meaningless manner just reinforces my assertion. this isn't a conversation you're capable of having.

you can go to the left and up in the temple to get to a portal that takes you up

Skill issue. My noita has the crown and the amulet, digging around the map is trivial if you know what you're doing.

If you can at least dig through rock (energy orb, digging blast, any explosive and others) after killing the boss you can go the the area the lava poured down from and dig left+up to get back to the temple of the art. From there you have two options. On the top of the leftmost side is a portal to the tower, which is an inverted version of the main path encased in cursed rock and tough enemies sprinkled around. At the end of it is a choice of three top tier wands and a portal back to the beginning. On the rightmost side is a blocked passage to wizard's den which you can ascend to eventually reach the surface. To get past the block throw three eggs at it (either summon egg or hollow egg will go) and it'll open the path and awaken the guard into a mini-boss fight.

It's the only game i've ever modded to be easier than vanilla. Permadeath just isn't for me. It was either that or stop playing it completely.

I'm using the checkpoint mod, but i hate it because it makes it WAY too easy, so i might stop playing it still.
The mod respawns you at a holy mountain, which is fine, but it doesn't reset anything except your HP and spell casts. All progress you've made in the level is saved.
I want a checkpoint mod that actually resets all progress you've made after you hit the checkpoint when you die. Is that too much to ask for?

Haven't played this game in a year: what's this news about there being a meat level? Are they actually adding more content?

      Anonymous

There have been some updates on the steam beta branch of the game. Some new spells and modifiers, some new materials, mixing materials works inside of flasks, couple new enemies, meat realm, and some fixes for bugs and some cheesey strats so far.
Meat realm is pretty gnarly. There's a ton of pus around the area that is functionally like poison or ominous liquid. The meat realm remembers how low your HP ever got inside of the meat realm and will always lower it to that upon returning to the meat realm until you die or start a new run, no matter how much you heal or raise your max health outside of the meat realm. Also Tiny lives in the meat realm now.

This game is just not good. There's so much potentiality but it's such a busted, unbalanced piece of trash. It makes me mad because I want to like this game so much, but the vast vast vast majority of spells are legitimately worthless.

the rng is actually fricked. Anons say you can make great wands with all the garbage spells but its like 50% of spells just kill you without the right perks and 45% of them are just trash. Also you can 100% just get fricked over by wand stats and if you dont have a good wand by snowy depths just restart because you will be spending an hour just clearing a single area

how? Im not being disengenuous but how? Because I know quite a few tricks for the spells but I can just get giga fricked by finding not a single good damage spells for the first two levels

            Anonymous

Biggest thing is breaking out of holy mountains so you can develop wands without moving forward.
Then develop either a sustain DPS long range wand or a wand with a low time-to-kill and tailor your gameplay to it.
Minigun wands work the best but big hitting slow wands also work well, you just have to play more cautiously.
Look for any triggers/timers, look for anything with cast delay/reload reduction, look for homing, something to wrap, look for light and double back in stage 3 to get the hearts from the dark cave. Look for wands either about even cast delay/recharge if you can't go full minigun. Almost always you'll find at least a 4 shot per second wand in the first couple of floors.

Literally every starting projectile besides spark bolt and the bouncing one suck ass. If you don't start off with either of those you may as well quit your run.

            Anonymous

You're smoking crack, spitter bolt and enemy orb one shot most enemies in floor 1 allowing you to fully explore.
If you can't make that work, that's a you problem

You have to go to fungal my man. See

To all those complaining about the rng or too few runs being good:
Head to the fungal fricking caverns.
High risk, high reward, you get in with nothing and come out with cool shit, or you die. In either case you'll ensure you're not wasting time playing a doomed run, or in some cases working your ass off to make an unfortunate run barely work.

I'd easily put bouncing as the worst starter projectile.
Spark bolt is s tier for sure, Energy Sphere is maybe also S tier just because of how much fricking damage it does.
The short-range spells are really really good as payload spells too, so they're not at all useless.
Bouncing bolt though, i legit restart.

even that area can be nothing but trash sometimes too. The game needs more areas like it though where good players can risk deadlier enemies for better wands

It's a little disingenuous, but the fungal cavern argument cannot really be refuted.
If you didn't find something (doesn't have to be good spells or wands, could be potions or items too) good in fungal, you probably didn't explore it enough. If you did explore all of fungal and found nothing, you probably don't need more than you have (since you survived all of fungal).

But to be a bit more sincere, in my 300 hours I've never walked out of fungal with nothing, most of the time you can get all sorts of cool shit, but it does happen that I just get an ambrosia potion, or teleport juice or concentrated mana or broken wands. But never nothing.

    Noita is great.
The first 10 hours are cool.
The next 5 are fricking GOTYAY.
After that it goes to being cool, but in a bit more involved way.
The gap between tutorial and endgame is a bit too big.

There's 3 main ways. Store a spell in an egg to protect you while polied, the egg will drop and the spells will get cast. Build a wisp that will teleport you back to where you cast it from, out of harms way, when polied. Or build a spell into an egg to crash the game when polied, which effectively acts like a save state.

Nta, but you'd have to have the egg equipped constantly for this to work right?

Depends what you mean by equipped. It just needs to be in one of your 4 item slots. You don't need to have it "out". You can be blasting with your wand, get polied and the egg will trigger.

Oh huh, I never knew! That makes it way more useful than I thought!
Still seems like a lot of trouble for what it's worth, but might be fun to try out sometime just for the experience.

It is tbh, and I don't make them anymore.
But having an option to mitigate the risk and choosing not to use it means the risk I'm taking is calculated.
Sometimes I die to Polly, but not often and it doesn't tilt me anymore.

How exactly does a good player even die to poly?
There are extremely few places poly exists naturally, all you have to do is be careful around those.
Otherwise poly either comes in bottles or from enemies (and again the enemies exist in very specific locations). Like everything else in Noita I really don't see how this is an issue unless you're on some power trip and charge into every situation headfirst.
Which again makes poly good. It's the game's memento mori.

I agree but I think every run can work. My best streak is 4 wins in a row and I only lost the 5th to me being reckless.
There's so many tricks to learn in this game.

Yeah I should've probably specified what I mean with "can work". Getting to the end I agree should be extremely doable just about any run, but I was thinking more getting a run going for post-game stuff and PWs and shit.
Even then I agree with you, every run can do that, but for some of them I think it would require evil eye digging autism which I don't think is a very good use of the player's time and imo if it gets to that point I'd rather just end the run and start another.

Ive literally died to a single drop of poly falling on me while I was building a wand to kill tiny on the bottom right of the map. No clue how it happened either, I was just suddenly kicked out of the wand edit screen and heard the poly sfx and then instantly died

Sure yeah if your point is that "The game's engine can be buggy and that can lead to some unfair deaths" then sure, yeah.
That said you still don't die instantly from poly, you have a fair shot at clutching it out with some good dodges even if we assume "quantum-shifting poly particle hit me" to be a normal occurence in the game

my hatred for poly is that this is the exception not the rule. Almost always any time I get hit by poly I dont even have time to react and then its just over GG no re

I'm legitimately having trouble finding a way to answer this that isn't some way of saying "I think you're going at a pace you think you can handle, when it's not a pace you can handle".
Which sounds like "git gud" but I don't mean it that way, more that Noita is all about constantly evaluating a constantly evolving rube goldberg-machine, and if you're ever surprised you got poly'd I think it's because you didn't read the situation right.

The one thing I do think can be total bullshit is when propane tanks are hidden in snow.

I wish there was a nice way to say "go slower". There's zero penalty for playing slowly in this game.
I start a run being cautious about every single piece of damage, as I get a bigger health pool and better wands I start speeding up. It really is all about the balance.

The first level is actually pretty cool in that you don't really have to go very slow at all, like the shotgun hiisi I feel a lot more comfortable fighting by baiting their melee attacks than gambling on their aim.

It is tbh, and I don't make them anymore.
But having an option to mitigate the risk and choosing not to use it means the risk I'm taking is calculated.

                >... The risk I'm taking is calculated. Sometimes I die to Polly, but not often and it doesn't tilt me anymore.
Yeah that's what I don't really get - every single time I've died to poly the last 100 or so hours I've played it's because I ignore all good instincts I've gotten and instead try to play some rockstar Noita. And then when I do jump into a situation I shouldn't jump into and I get what I deserve, I think it's more funny than anything else. So I really don't get how so many so often point to this one mechanic as some form of fault in Noita - again I think it serves a great memento mori kind of function.

I feel the same way. If I was at home I'd post some clips.
90% of the time I die in an easily preventable way. 10% of the time I get Noita'd, preventable death that I cbf'd putting the work in to prevent, and I get a fun death clip out of it to share

Noita is a fun game, I have like 20 hours in it and finished several runs but I kind of get the sentiment of just wanting a chill mode where you could explore the environments and experiment with stuff.

Would guys play noita 2 if the game was like kings field 2 but with rogue like elements found in noita. Like procedure generated biomes/items/wands. The world is still destructible and the biome layout would still be the same mines -> coal mines frozen mines -> hiisi base etc. I feel like this would make the game more creepy
