I don't get how it was a meme game, let alone the biggest. It took itself seriously, was almost devoid of any kind of humor, and I can't remember much more that a few screenshots used at reactions. I'll admit I'm biased because it is one of my favorite games of all time, but I don't understand how it was or is a meme.
The problem with "best soundtrack" lists is often they tend to tie into "best game" lists. I don't even think OoT has the best soundtrack in the Zelda series, but OoT is memed into being the "greatest game of all time," so obviously it has to have "the best music," too. That's not to say OoT doesn't have bangers, but like... this also devalues less popular games that just have kick ass music.
Tim Follin is an example of a guy who worked on nothing but SHIT, but goddamn he could make some Pictionary music.
OOT & FF6 have become so acclaimed that contrarians will actively say they aren't good simply to prop up inferior titles yet give Chrono Trigger a pass despite being even more circlejerked than any game ever made
OoT fricking blows and it always has. It's a clunky disaster that people constantly suck off because the N64 had a relative handful of games. Z targeting is great, everything else besides its OST and the overworld stinks.
