Nintendo continues their eternal quest to rewrite history in their favour
No one says it's the first 3D platformer, they say it's the first to "get it right." Doesn't appear to be wrong, as 3D platformers struggled to get it right before Mario 64 released... and even Mario 64 has its quirks due to being a trailblazer. Almost like platforming is just all around more difficult in 3D.
SM64 doesn't get nearly as much shit as it should for being so goddamn ugly and being almost entirely made with asset library CDs for both textures and audio.
yeah, agreed. as a kid i only had PS1, and even then i somehow managed to think that SM64 looks shitty and moronic and wasn't jealous at all, while spyro, crash bandicoot etc. had soul. even how the games were constructed design-wise, SM64 seemed confusing and weird for a child, compared to satisfying and straightforward PS1 platformers.
SM64 is ugly as sin honestly. and it's true that it's literally asset library dump game. like Unity Asset store game for the time
Literally the only thing people still talk about with regards to Mario 64 is how to play as little of it as possible, or playing Sonic.exe knockoff maps.
As someone who played m64 only recently for the first time I agree, It looks like shit, plays like shit. You can't just restart the level, game throws you out of the level and you have to wait for all the cutscenes to play again if you fail. It forces you to play careful and that makes game boring.
at that time it was 3D visuals, many games were still using a mix between 3D and 2D sprites like mario but Spyro went full 3D instead.
Spyro visual was also done with a purpose in mind, there's an interview with the dev in charge of it and they litteraly went with "science behind colors" to make their textures, in term of gameplay there's little to no difference between the originals and the remake but if you want to play the original games i won't stop you they are really good and def worth a try, same thing with crash series
> focusing on muh graphics is soul now
I guess even in its prime sony was still style over substance. There is nothing wrong with good art direction which Spyro is superior but Mario64 focused on being a game and it shows.
: Do YOU know the difference?
well you just posted it
It funny when morons say that SM64 was "the first 3D platformer" when there's countless games on the PS1 that released before SM64.
Nintendo continues their eternal quest to rewrite history in their favour
Right? Even Bubsy 3D predated Mario 64
Mario 64 came out in Japan in June 1996, and September in NA. Bubsy 3D wasn't out until November.
Like eh... Uh... Hm....
Bubsy 3D and Jumping Flash to name a few
Hahahahahahaha

So they we're lying then.

Nah, Mario 64 is better than all those games. You're too young to remember the long lines in ToysRUs just to play the timed demo.
Mario is still alive
Spyro is kill
Why do gays equate nostalgia as being a negative term?
Is it because you were molested as a child thus having no pleasant childhood memories?
Lol OP mad that Mario 64 was actually fun.
Literally the only thing people still talk about with regards to Mario 64 is how to play as little of it as possible, or playing Sonic.exe knockoff maps.
>hurrdurr I only talk to people on Ganker
You frickin wish bozo.
The duality of OP's homosexualry
Yes
spyro is a forgotten relic.
People still play SM64 to this very day.
Fact: AAA games can't have soul
Eh, old ones could, mostly because actual development teams could still be small enough to have humanity.
I played Spyro when it came out and didn't care for it, played it recently and it's God awful. Mario 64 sucks, doe
As someone who played m64 only recently for the first time I agree, It looks like shit, plays like shit. You can't just restart the level, game throws you out of the level and you have to wait for all the cutscenes to play again if you fail. It forces you to play careful and that makes game boring.
I played both and liked both equally. I did play right for longer though.
Both games contain soul you frick face
Yeah, my soul.
Super mario 64 is the greatest video game ever made
I never played a Spyro game before. What is the "revolutionary new tech"?
Maybe I should check out that game

Saying that soul isn't nostalgia is like saying you only read Playboy for the articles.
Soul isn't nostalgia since games with Soul can be brand new.
Name some.
And yet mario 64 is a good game while spyro is shit... curious
It is I, the Chrome, from the Fire Embull!
