Bot hosters are a third-party malicious actor and it's functionally no different from just griefing in an ace of spades server back in 2008 but with automation. It doesn't actually impact how the game functions on a mechanical or code level anymore, because ACE was patched years ago.

If the bots actually managed to install rootkits on people's systems, hacked the item index or actually found a way to completely shut down valve/community servers through virus injections like people were initially speculating once the source code started leaking, valve would be immediately liable to fix their product (which they did to that extent, remote code execution doesn't exist in the game currently and pretty much never did). Valve doesn't seem to actually care about the bots, and the law doesn't neither (at least until the FBI finds out about the literal child porn spam (which valve might be liable for, but to no further extent than facebook might be liable for someone posting classified government intel))

Yes, that should definitely be addressed. However, Valve is not liable or responsible for what happens outside of TF2's servers. If it was happening on Steam you could report that and then they'll banwave more junk bot accounts, but Valve is not the thought police and there's pretty much no way to stop a determined individual without legal action. i.e. Valve's not going to be able to simply stop people from abusing their leaked code, it's theoretically impossible now that it's being shared publicly online and maybe even offline. To ACTUALLY fix the bot problem they would need to re-write most if not all of the game code, and whatever is shared between ALL of their games, and that's just not in the cards even if they were to drop EVERYTHING and dedicate all available employees to this issue.

there's other games with similar patterns of small downtimes like CoD, HoI4 and stardew valley, and it's probably just games that are played similarly through different timezones as opposed to shit that s few timezones play a lot and others not so much
the only weird thing about tf2's player pattern is that the lines are jagged, but if that margin is bots (which it probably is) then there's at MOST 10k bots and more realistically 4-8k, also i'd like to see a screenshot of tf2's player count pre-bots to see if the lack of smoothness stays the same

This. If a game has micro-transactions, loot-boxes or season-passes, then it's already pozzed garbage. Multiplayer player games were good back when you bought a game, it came with all the content in the disk, you installed it and had to host the server yourself or play on servers hosted by other people, as there were only maybe 5 or 6 official servers that were always full. Those were the days. Picture Quake World, Unreal Tournment, Counter Strike 1.5 etc.
While I also crave the end of microtransactions and lootboxes, this isn't the way. If hypothetically online team games become so unpopular they go extinct, they will just put microtrans boxes in our single player games. The core of the game has become so rotten that nothing can save it at this point. You would need to revert over 8 years of changes, which is never going to happen.
Valve no longer cares about TF2. Most of the old TF2 community has moved on due to alienation caused by the myriad changes that have occurred over the years. The only people holding on are server owners and people with massive backpacks worth thousands of dollars. They have the most to lose. Then you have the people jumping on the bandwagon simply because they want to be "in" on some kind of movement, or because their favorite internet talking head god behind it. Lastly you have legitimate players who simply want the bots gone so they can actually play the game again.
But what all these people have in common is that they are fighting a doomed battle. Valve has no interest in putting real resources into TF2. They will never fix the botting problem, nor do they have any desire to do so. It wouldn't be worth the time and effort for such an old game.
This movement will go nowhere and will accomplish nothing.

I’ve been popping into these threads and I will say this. Yes, Valve will likely not do shit but the bot hosters are still worried and doing everything in their power to lower morale, from hosting more bots than usual to making these bait threads on Ganker.
At the very least, minor changes are still going to be made that will further nerf bots, a pattern that has been occurring since 2020. Only two major hosting groups are left, out of the many that used to exist. They gave up and so will the last standing, relevant hosters.
As it is, Omegatronic bots are shit rn. They are fidgety, keep getting stuck at walls or at spawn and their aimbot is subpar, in NA anyway.
Either whatever fork of cathook they are using is still fricked or they are pushing their cheap hardware to its limit, maybe both.

TF2 died with MyM and it is NEVER coming back. Never.
The core of the game has become so rotten that nothing can save it at this point. You would need to revert over 8 years of changes, which is never going to happen.
Valve no longer cares about TF2. Most of the old TF2 community has moved on due to alienation caused by the myriad changes that have occurred over the years. The only people holding on are server owners and people with massive backpacks worth thousands of dollars. They have the most to lose. Then you have the people jumping on the bandwagon simply because they want to be "in" on some kind of movement, or because their favorite internet talking head god behind it. Lastly you have legitimate players who simply want the bots gone so they can actually play the game again.
But what all these people have in common is that they are fighting a doomed battle. Valve has no interest in putting real resources into TF2. They will never fix the botting problem, nor do they have any desire to do so. It wouldn't be worth the time and effort for such an old game.
This movement will go nowhere and will accomplish nothing.

I’ve been popping into these threads and I will say this. Yes, Valve will likely not do shit but the bot hosters are still worried and doing everything in their power to lower morale, from hosting more bots than usual to making these bait threads on Ganker.
At the very least, minor changes are still going to be made that will further nerf bots, a pattern that has been occurring since 2020. Only two major hosting groups are left, out of the many that used to exist. They gave up and so will the last standing, relevant hosters.
As it is, Omegatronic bots are shit rn. They are fidgety, keep getting stuck at walls or at spawn and their aimbot is subpar, in NA anyway.
Either whatever fork of cathook they are using is still fricked or they are pushing their cheap hardware to its limit, maybe both.
This will end in time. It’s not going to be worth it to mass host in the future. Bots won’t go away for good but servers are not going to be overwhelmed anymore.
Even though the problem is still bad, we are in a much better place than where we are in 2020.
