Why do people even watch video essays? Is a random person's opinion on a game you like/dislike really needed? Is that going to chage the way you see the game?
It's interesting to see someone lay out their opinion on a game I've played and see where I agree or disagree with them, if they missed something I didn't pick up on, or if they just have a different perspective on it. But mostly I watch them because they're just the right combination of something engaging enough to keep my mind from wandering and boring enough to get me to sleep.
I don't mind hearing peoples takes but I take issue with them having to keep it an hour+, can't they just minimize that shit? They should give me some cliffnotes if they have that much to say.
Background noise. To learn more about games that I'm not interested in playing, but don't mind spending an hour or two learning about. Sometimes people have an interesting perspective, but it's honestly really rare

For me I like the really long, more comprehensive ones. If it's a game I'm familiar with, and have beaten, then I'll be able to follow along with each point and moment in the game, and hear their thoughts on it. Sometimes I agree, and sometimes I won't. But, I really like the detail of going over every major beat in the game. Idk, it's probably just autism.
Well I don't know if I could go back and enjoy Fallout 3 after New Vegas, I'm starting to remember more and more based things about it. Like, do you remember how you got to sell children into slavery? Children. Into slavery. We'll never get that in a Fallout game again.

The problem with such an appeal lies in a basic fact that simulations, by sheer complexity may already and do include such abstract design choices.
No matter what sort of simulation it is, what distinguishes simulation approach is the detail density, even an artsy game needs those, because all games are mechanically simulations.

These games do aspects of what 3 wanted to so much better that I can't really justify dealing with the adolescence of Bethesda figuring out what to do with their first Fallout.
The game lacks meaningful choices, lacks depth in its characters, and lacks player agency in its story. Now, as a shooter, that's fine, but Fallout 3 is still attempting to be an RPG, and all of those things it lacks are quite important to making a worthwhile RPG.
