BOTW was the beta test, this is the full release. It probably hasn't changed enough, but the addition of sky islands, caves and the underground make the game feel much better and less repetitive. This is what BOTW should've been. It's also a much better game if you haven't played BOTW because it's too similar as a sequel and storywise mostly just ignores BOTW.

I was fully expecting it to be a disappointment so I emulated. Save $70 + tip, they didn't learn a goddamn thing and made some other things so much worse. I honestly don't think Nintendo has any clue how to actually design a game anymore, they just cobble shit together now and go for quantity over quality. First major Zelda I've never bought, and now the second Zelda I've dropped.

Essentially how I felt. There were too many occasions where the game hadn’t changed old areas and just plopped Addison and koroks down. Ruined the mood and exploration at points. But there ws a lot of great stuff too. I’d put it somewhere around an 8.5-9

It's absolutely not a bad game by any means. It's quite impressive in a lot of ways, but it's not even close to the technical achievement BotW was. How could it be? I never really minded that open space in BotW and in fact I probably appreciate it more now. Tears wants to drag my attention to encounters that are nearly always not particularly fun.

Absolutely. I think a lot of people just didn't want to explore BotW's map again which is totally understandable but on its own it's one of the best games in the series. Its biggest low point is the story, but I've never cared about that anyway.
