It's just Souls in an open world, an open world that might be nice to look at but is underwhelming and hollow beyond that, with a tacked on crafting system. It also suffers a bit from the whole "no handholding/no aid/frick the user/super duper hardcore" philosophy. There needs to be a quest log or journal that tells who you spoke with, what was said, where, what was done and what still needs to be done. And it has some balance issues.
But it's not bad. I enjoyed it. It just isn't the God's gift to gaming like many made it out to be.
It's a culmination of all the moronic design decisions these games have had since Demon's Souls.

People who play Dark Souls almost exclusively, are very big about the PvP scene, have all the achievements, have done challenge runs like SL1 runs, have subscriptions to Souls e-celebs, don't play Soulslikes not made by From, etcetera.
Every single Soulsborne fan I've interacted with has absolutely nothing positive to say about Elden Ring; hell, one of my Steam friends is a Soulsborne streamer and he hates Elden Ring like you have no idea.
Meanwhile I play the Souls games very casually (only PvE and co-op with friends, no PvP, no achievement hunting) and even like games like Nioh, The Surge or Code Vein, and I liked Elden Ring as much as I liked the other From Souls games or Bloodborne.
Because it is good on superficial things like environments but the actual combat design/balance/replayability etc is awful. If you also haven't played souls games much a lot of the creative bankruptcy will be lost on you and a lot of things will seem cool and novel when it's actually the 5th time they've done it.

Elden Ring is the most replayable one since Dark Souls 1 for me, I've replayed all of them to various extents and Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne are probably the least replayable ones in my eyes because while I really liked Bloodborne it's pretty linear and doesn't have much build variety, and Dark Souls 3 is just kinda bland overall. It's not a bad game but it definitely feels the blandest of them all, meanwhile Elden Ring has a shitload of build variety and it's also gigantic and very nonlinear so you can approach it from pretty much any angle you want
Especially when you realize the early most of the Limgrave catacombs and caves only contain spirit ashes with only a handfull having weapons or talismans.
So on repeat runs you can beeline to what you need for your new fresh build: weapons, spells, armors, talismans as long as they're not some endgame boss weapon shit.
I have a sneaking suspicion this group of raiders, as a group, have arrested development to some degree. I think Elden Ring's massive open world frightens them in the same way the irl world does. Its too big and the options are too varied so they end up with the paralysis of choice, which also afflicts those with arrested development.
You know, you could probably write up a few killer psychology papers on the type of mental failings manifest from these types of people and how they volunteer the info themselves on message boards and discords. Its like they open up a vector of attack willingly while having a life crippling mental illness that impairs life.
It just sounds like a recipe for disaster on the personal level, but I'd like to read the papers people would write on the topic.
This game could be SO good its going to advance the medical field randomly, like how GiTS: Stand Alone Complex pushed forward discussions on some funky new personality types manifesting in society. Definitely something the authorities should keep an eye or five on.

DS1 and Demon's bosses are a total joke, but DS2 are far harder and more in line with DS3/BB/ER difficulty, especially with the nerfed poise and magic.
I did an SL1 run in DS1, I've finished the max NG+6 in DS1 and Sekiro, NG+4 in Bloodborne, (which is also the sole reason I got a PS4 for), NG+1 in DS2, NG+5 in DS3 and NG+2 in ER. How much more hardcore souls fan can I get? I also liked Elden Ring.
What was supposed to be the magnum opus of FromSoftware and a proper send-off to a franchise that always had troubled development ended up being a rehash and slight refinement of what we've already been playing for over a decade. They've always had an excuse until now.

Too open. DS1 was great because it was open enough to feel free but still structured. Elden Ring definitely has a bit of structure but the fact that you can miss really helpful items, namely miner's bell bearings, just makes it a bit stinkier than it ought to have been.

personally I just really didn't enjoy the boss design. they took the worst aspects of previous bosses like tracking animation canceling, aoe, input reading and they added them to pretty much every fricking boss in elden ring
It was ok. I have some grips about it. I wish it was easier to get some weapons earlier so you can play what you want. I hate that every character is bad ended no matter what. The speed increase helped strength weapons not feel like a chore and the coop mod is for when you beat the game and want to romp with friends. I miss the danger of invasions though. It could use a slot or some sort of invading npc.

Because Fromsoft dlc is always fantastic, they're literally just expansion packs like Lord of Destruction instead of cosmetic bullshit and maybe one extra mission like most games
Artorias of the Abyss, Crown of the Sunken King, and The Old Hunters are all the best parts of their respective games and the other DLCs are all still pretty good and on par with the rest of their respective games

Souls DLCs are bigger and longer than some full $60 releases, and I'm not counting hours wasted by a bad player dying 100 times.
A good casual relaxed run though most of the DS2/DS3/BB DLCs will still take you 4-5 hours, even with just a handful of deaths.
They are just content cut from the game later sold as separate "expansions". Sure, they may be good, but they're a scam because they're charging you for something you already paid for.

Or, they love Dark Souls 1 and therefore hate any game that deviates from the formula set by Dark Souls 1. And then there are the troonys of Ganker. They desperately need attention above all else. So, to get attention, they will express an opposing opinion to whatever the most popular game is of the moment. Witcher 3 is widely considered great? Then, the troonys of Ganker will say they hate it. Witcher 3 is widely considered dull? Then, the troonys of Ganker will say that it is brilliant. That's just how it goes on Ganker.

You don't have to fight them, they're an optional boss. If you don't go into that room before the festival starts you don't have to fight them because the room is populated by friendly npcs instead once it starts, after Radahn is dead the npcs leave and the crucible knight and leonine misbegotten come back

That happens regardless. You can also go do them after the festival if you want by talking to Jerren afterwards.
The festival just happens at a very specific timeframe in game. The duo fight can be done before or after it.

I fricking loved the randomized Depth 3-4 ones, they were hard enough and had enough variety of both bosses and mobs that I spent 500 hours on and off trying different weapons.
Hitting 5 chalice zombies at once with the Beast Cutter in chain mode is fricking amazing.
same, alternate versions of weapons, unique bosses, material farming, challenge modes, virtually infinite replay value and randomization, even additional lore and atmospheres
as a huge Path of exile player it was like heaven for me
An ER chalice dungeon DLC after the regular style lore/legacy dungeon DLCs would be great.
It would also shut up all the complainers about the BB chalices being "bad content they didn't ask for" as they can just not buy it.
I loved Bloodborne but I didn't like the chalices at all, they felt tacked on. I wish they'd have used that dev time to make one or two more main game zones instead

Chalices have some of the most kino bosses in pre-DLC BB, like this guy who's one of the best mage fights in any souls game.
He's has a far more fun and interesting moveset then Lagarius, who just spams skulls most of the tume.

Currently struggling to finish this piece of shit. Am I just too early on the game, or are the dungeons just absolute fricking anus? I've cleared like 10 of them and every single one so far was shorter than my wiener and every single boss was underwhelming. This shit is unironically dark souls without the soul

Most burst damage weapon arts like impaling thrust do x3 or more damage than an R1 and they're almost as fast plus they cause massive posture damage for those sweet ripostes.
Even on a base +0 weapon it's not hard to dominate Mergit and Godrick.
Plus the game gives you around 14 #1 stones just as fixed loot in Stormveil if you explore a bit and 4-5 #2 stones.
I got to Lyndell at SL20 with just a +3 weapon and I beat all the other bosses legit, I only had to cheese Draconic Tree Sent because the phase 2 lightning was one shotting me.
The big empty open world full of recycled content meme is a straight downgrade from the more linear, focussed Dark Souls formula.
It feels watered down, there are still some good fights, and some interesting places to explore, but you have to get through dozens of hours worth of recycled lazily copypasted shit just to get to them.
ER still has the biggest legacy dungeons with the most shoercuts and optional routes of any souls game.
I'm still finding new ways to traverse Stormveil.

Not at all, ER enemies are slower then DS3 enemies because the player on average is slower then in DS3 with more recovery frames between rolls, that's why you can't chain mash them as easily now without getting hit.
They rely on delays to roll catch, not speed.

Enemy variety is complete shit. Pretty sure most of the game is spent fighting those generic recolored knight dudes across the different regions.
Each of the Knights, Soldiers and Infantry have some few unique attacks, weapon arts/spells and consumables exclusive to one region.
-Godrick ones are the base starting ones, they're cowards, block a lot and many use crossbows to stay out of the action
-Cuckoo ones use magic grenades, guard counters and magic weapon spells and glintsone phalanx and occasionally throw pots that disable your heal for 30 seconds
-Redmane ones use the double slash weapon art, throw fire grenades, one with shields guard counter, ones with torches do the fire breath weapon art
-Lyndell ones use the determination weapon art, lightning slash, guard counter, throw lightning grenades, use spark perfumes and use repulse if you get close
So? They are still reused assets with largely the same attacks. If every boss was Margit with a different attack each, would you be posting copium like this too?
The soldiers and knights are a themed enemy just like the black knights in DS1 that shows up in a couple different areas, each of which have dozens of other enemy types in them. Not sure why you're so hung up on this outside of yet another sad shitposting attempt
A couple different areas? Limgrave is only soldiers, Leyndell is only soldiers, the Capital is only soldiers, Liurnia is only soldiers, Haligtree is ONLY soldiers and so on.

This is far more than most games where recolored enemies are identical besides buffed HP/damage.

Caelid is mostly crows and dogs, with just few soldiers.

I can handle the reused bosses. They’re pretty easy. I can handle the afterthought that are time of day based event. I can even handle the shitty caves and ruins “dungeon.” But frick these “heroes grave.” Nobody wants to do a repeated run just to die by touching a goddamn chariot. Drags the entire game down.
The chariot is not a one shot anymore, the patched it.
You can survive it at 800 HP, just don't get it in a position where it'll immediately turn around and hit again.

I didn't find the game easy at all.
In fact it was one of the most difficult game since it's Sekiro Bosses while you are stuck with one of the most unplayable character in the souls serie.
Keep playing, you'll get some neat movement options after the tutorial area. You might find a weapon or 2 in that zone that has quickstep even.
Don't forget to jump during combat, it works like Sekiro's dodges but without the symbols.
Good luck, never give up!

This is Valkyrie Drive. A game Ganker calls "a hidden gem". This game reuses its own player characters as bosses several times (the final boss for the "chaotic" route is literally two of the player characters, fighting exactly like they do when the player controls them) , to the point where it only has four original bosses, and even then two of them are recolors.
Somehow this is fine, but when Elden Ring does something similar, the game is the worst thing ever.

It's just Souls in an open world, an open world that might be nice to look at but is underwhelming and hollow beyond that, with a tacked on crafting system. It also suffers a bit from the whole "no handholding/no aid/frick the user/super duper hardcore" philosophy. There needs to be a quest log or journal that tells who you spoke with, what was said, where, what was done and what still needs to be done. And it has some balance issues.
But it's not bad. I enjoyed it. It just isn't the God's gift to gaming like many made it out to be.

People who play Dark Souls almost exclusively, are very big about the PvP scene, have all the achievements, have done challenge runs like SL1 runs, have subscriptions to Souls e-celebs, don't play Soulslikes not made by From, etcetera.
Every single Soulsborne fan I've interacted with has absolutely nothing positive to say about Elden Ring; hell, one of my Steam friends is a Soulsborne streamer and he hates Elden Ring like you have no idea.
Meanwhile I play the Souls games very casually (only PvE and co-op with friends, no PvP, no achievement hunting) and even like games like Nioh, The Surge or Code Vein, and I liked Elden Ring as much as I liked the other From Souls games or Bloodborne.

Elden Ring is the most replayable one since Dark Souls 1 for me, I've replayed all of them to various extents and Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne are probably the least replayable ones in my eyes because while I really liked Bloodborne it's pretty linear and doesn't have much build variety, and Dark Souls 3 is just kinda bland overall. It's not a bad game but it definitely feels the blandest of them all, meanwhile Elden Ring has a shitload of build variety and it's also gigantic and very nonlinear so you can approach it from pretty much any angle you want
Especially when you realize the early most of the Limgrave catacombs and caves only contain spirit ashes with only a handfull having weapons or talismans.
So on repeat runs you can beeline to what you need for your new fresh build: weapons, spells, armors, talismans as long as they're not some endgame boss weapon shit.
This, I swear morons try to say you have to complete all the side dungeons on every playthrough.
I like how there's always more than 1 route when thinking about speedier repeat runs. Its a minor step up from every run being the same levels/areas.
I have a sneaking suspicion this group of raiders, as a group, have arrested development to some degree. I think Elden Ring's massive open world frightens them in the same way the irl world does. Its too big and the options are too varied so they end up with the paralysis of choice, which also afflicts those with arrested development.
You know, you could probably write up a few killer psychology papers on the type of mental failings manifest from these types of people and how they volunteer the info themselves on message boards and discords. dark souls isn't even that good or hard. The bosses in ds 2 are a fricking joke.
DS1 and Demon's bosses are a total joke, but DS2 are far harder and more in line with DS3/BB/ER difficulty, especially with the nerfed poise and magic.
I did an SL1 run in DS1, I've finished the max NG+6 in DS1 and Sekiro, NG+4 in Bloodborne, (which is also the sole reason I got a PS4 for), NG+1 in DS2, NG+5 in DS3 and NG+2 in ER. How much more hardcore souls fan can I get? I also liked Elden Ring.

Too open. DS1 was great because it was open enough to feel free but still structured. Elden Ring definitely has a bit of structure but the fact that you can miss really helpful items, namely miner's bell bearings, just makes it a bit stinkier than it ought to have been.

It was ok. I have some grips about it. I wish it was easier to get some weapons earlier so you can play what you want. I hate that every character is bad ended no matter what. The speed increase helped strength weapons not feel like a chore and the coop mod is for when you beat the game and want to romp with friends. I miss the danger of invasions though. It could use a slot or some sort of invading npc.

Souls DLCs are bigger and longer than some full $60 releases, and I'm not counting hours wasted by a bad player dying 100 times.
A good casual relaxed run though most of the DS2/DS3/BB DLCs will still take you 4-5 hours, even with just a handful of deaths.
They are just content cut from the game later sold as separate "expansions". Sure, they may be good, but they're a scam because they're charging you for something you already paid for.

If you don't go into that room before the festival starts you don't have to fight them because the room is populated by friendly npcs instead once it starts, after Radahn is dead the npcs leave and the crucible knight and leonine misbegotten come back
so what triggers the festival? the first time through I had to do the bridge gauntlet and fight them before radahn, if you do the quest there is no fog gate before radahn.
Entering Leyndell triggers the start of the festival, you can't fight Radahn until you enter the capitol
touching any site of grace on altus plateau triggers the festival
It didn't start for me until I entered Leyndell, I just went back through Redmane Castle a couple days ago after reaching and exploring Altus for a bit and there was no chanting

Chalices have some of the most kino bosses in pre-DLC BB, like this guy who's one of the best mage fights in any souls game.
He's has a far more fun and interesting moveset then Lagarius, who just spams skulls most of the tume.

Most burst damage weapon arts like impaling thrust do x3 or more damage than an R1 and they're almost as fast plus they cause massive posture damage for those sweet ripostes.
Even on a base +0 weapon it's not hard to dominate Mergit and Godrick.
Plus the game gives you around 14 #1 stones just as fixed loot in Stormveil if you explore a bit and 4-5 #2 stones.
I got to Lyndell at SL20 with just a +3 weapon and I beat all the other bosses legit, I only had to cheese Draconic Tree Sent because the phase 2 lightning was one shotting me.

Not at all, ER enemies are slower then DS3 enemies because the player on average is slower then in DS3 with more recovery frames between rolls, that's why you can't chain mash them as easily now without getting hit.
They rely on delays to roll catch, not speed.

It is. A large majority of encounters are against the recolored lordsworn soldiers especially in later areas because they ran out of shekels.
Each of the Knights, Soldiers and Infantry have some few unique attacks, weapon arts/spells and consumables exclusive to one region.
-Godrick ones are the base starting ones, they're cowards, block a lot and many use crossbows to stay out of the action
-Cuckoo ones use magic grenades, guard counters and magic weapon spells and glintsone phalanx and occasionally throw pots that disable your heal for 30 seconds
-Redmane ones use the double slash weapon art, throw fire grenades, one with shields guard counter, ones with torches do the fire breath weapon art
-Lyndell ones use the determination weapon art, lightning slash, guard counter, throw lightning grenades, use spark perfumes and use repulse if you get close
So? They are still reused assets with largely the same attacks. If every boss was Margit with a different attack each, would you be posting copium like this too?
The soldiers and knights are a themed enemy just like the black knights in DS1 that shows up in a couple different areas, each of which have dozens of other enemy types in them. Not sure why you're so hung up on this outside of yet another sad shitposting attempt

I didn't find the game easy at all.
In fact it was one of the most difficult game since it's Sekiro Bosses while you are stuck with one of the most unplayable character in the souls serie.
Keep playing, you'll get some neat movement options after the tutorial area. You might find a weapon or 2 in that zone that has quickstep even.
Don't forget to jump during combat, it works like Sekiro's dodges but without the symbols.

This is Valkyrie Drive. A game Ganker calls "a hidden gem". This game reuses its own player characters as bosses several times (the final boss for the "chaotic" route is literally two of the player characters, fighting exactly like they do when the player controls them) , to the point where it only has four original bosses, and even then two of them are recolors.
Somehow this is fine, but when Elden Ring does something similar, the game is the worst thing ever.
