I can’t be the only one who notices the human character designs have been getting worse and worse in recent games. Some people say that the appearance of modern pokemon games is due to the games becoming too Western, but you can see the trend towards featureless blobs in anime as well, and not just pokemon.
Found pic related on Ganker and I think it applies even more to the human characters than the pokemon themselves.

You’re welcome to your opinion but I still prefer the old designs in pokemon games. First 2 look like more shonen inspired anime designs (which I think more closely captures the spirit of pokemon) while the latter 2 are more CGDCT styled.

Of course not. It's been one of my minor complaints for years.
I really like the artstyle for around gen 3-4. It kept that blocky feel of gens 1 and 2 while giving them more normal proportions.
But everything after that got progressively more rounded and weird until you started getting shit like pic related. Though the design itself isn't as bad as some other gen 8 characters, it's difficult to express my disbelief that this official pokemon artwork.
Just none of this shit looks like pokemon to me.
just modern anime syndrome where every anime character has to have a wackier and wackier special snowflake design. even characters like Larry which is bland as the joke has random silver highlights in his hair to give him special anime flair
