Freedom is fun. I recently finished village on my first save and thought about starting FU, but the controls feel a lot more fluid, its kinda hard to get used to. So I started playing Freedom from the beginning again. Going to get to Fatalis this time.
You're making me want to do so too! Every new monster hunter I also main a new weapon, though I usually limit it to cutting weapons because I've still got repressed trauma from tail-only plates. I'm thinking completely shooting myself in the foot and using a gun. Should I use light or heavy? I'll let you decide.
Nice! I've been switching it up recently too. My first playthrough was only with GS, this time I'm using the guns. I think both of them are good, but LBG seems to have a lot more options, judging from the point where I'm now. HBG is cooler, but its slowness can bit you in the ass sometimes. I think using both is the best option. Or trying both and choosing later.
I'll coin-flip which one I'll use (HBG came up). I like to stick with just one weapon till end-game so I can truly master the weapon by overcoming every monster with it, from there I'll start using other weapons. It's been a long time since I've actually played a monster hunter long enough to switch from my main, MHTri I think...
Booted MH1 again, after losing all my data to save corruption. I really want to experience the original Fatty in its full but unpolished glory. Classic MHs are so beautifully crafted compared to 5th gen's, you can't even compare them. >Picrel is my last kill, and it was purely for fun (I was doing a bug quest)
Something about the unpolished nature of these games made them so much better than latter and portable titles. The MHDos guy makes some points for it. It's a slower experience, with weapons and their upgrades being a more meaningful experience given that it costs more money and materials to upgrade them, you need to forage for your consumables and actually need to mine for ores. It sounds absolutely terrible and it's the first thing on the list for them to "improve" in the subsequent game, but it really immerses you into the experience; I remember slowly taking in the world preparing for hunts far more than I do the bombastic hunts of the latter titles. I'm sad that it's gone, never to return.
I agree. Being so clunky had it's charm. Sure, it is cumbersome to load yourself like a soccer mom to gather and hunt, but it made it much better. I remember that when I was at the top of FU, I wouldn't need the map to figure out where I was and to know to which area the monster went to. It was a great time. I'm tempted to get Sunbreak, but it will be after I'm done replaying MHFU, P3rd, 3U, 4U and GU.
FU didn't quite give the same sort of immersion the PS2 MH titles did as everything was smoother, more streamlined. It would be remiss not to mention that even though I remember all the good times it brought, there was a whole load of shit--Rathalos' "around the world "attack"; F&H area 9; Gyps' excessive running; Ples chilling in water; Khezu just hanging around; etc.

I heard Sword and Shield is fun as frick and OP in Freedom 1. This true?
Yes, it's very strong.

Oh yeah. The fricking jank is there, but it has it's charm. I will try to get my hands on MHDos one of these days.

I finished a village only on p3rd again, very comfy doing a hammer only run.
I really wish we had a 3u / 4u port to PC / switch, with updated weapon trees, I love the games but I wish I could upgrade my weapons without relying on kiranico everytime to see paths.

Fired up World today. After so many years, so much nostalgia. Amazing game!
Not since my best friend died

Beat village in FU just recently and am now trying to beat guild quests.
Only HR2. Can I beat everything including G rank solo? The HP pools will be massive, right?
