homie stores are dropping Microsoft consoles and games in Europe and Walmart is going to be the first to drop the Xbox games catalog. How can you have a brand if casuals don't even know your product exists? The Xbox from the 360 era and the Xbox Series today different products. As intended by Phil Spencer to make Xbox into a live service subscription based ecosystem for GamePass.

microsoft doesn’t think in 5 or even 10 years ahead. they are thinking 20-50 years ahead.

what they’ve gained in the last month makes up for the entirety of their losses on xbox since its inception.

also don’t pretend xbox doesn’t make money, it does. sony long term is in a worse position, because they don’t have the capital or equity to make big industry moves anymore.

Snoy would leave before MS does lol. But by all means, keep coping.

Yep pretty much this. Snoy used to be the big fish in a small pond, now they're a pretty average sized fish in a huge pond. They're stuck between a rock and a hard place longterm because a large part of their business model in the past was paying off third party developers for exclusives but none of those developers will take the money for anything more than timed exclusivity now and they don't have the IPs to compete with Nintendo nor the finanical guns to do what Microsoft is doing with porting everything and running a gamepass equivalent.

Black person MS has never ever made any money on Xbox. NEVER. Not even once. They have only lost money. Insane amounts of money + their recent billion dollars purchases. Money they will never make back even in a 100 years. Any other company that wasn't MS would have already gone bankrupt since years ago.

None meme answer is Steam/Valve with the Deck. They're positioning themselves to become a PC portable machine for games from the 1990s to the 2010s era. That's MS-DOS games all the way to the PS4 era, the technology is there and the market is there not to step on Nintendo or Sony's toes. PC gamers are completely different breed of the Switch market.

Microsoft being the utterly incompetent shit run company that they are pivoted to becoming a Live Service Rent brand for their Xbox business, leaving the door open for Valve to swoop in. I don't believe Apple will seriously enter and Amazon had many layoffs in their gaming department this year, that Ubisoft AC dev Jade Raymond also left Amazon IIRC.

Nobody wants to make consoles that's the point. They either lose you money or make so little back they might as well not. Both MS and Sony make their profits from leeching off of game sales and subscriptions, which is why Xbox has been explicitly trying to shed its hardware and focus only on providing the software and services.

What a dumb post. SpiderMan 2 on the PS5 broke their biggest sales records for a 1st party game and Nintendo 1st party games have been nonstop sales record breakers on the Switch, to the point that Mario Kart 8 Deluxe at 55 million units has outsold the combined sales figures of every Xbox Series and Xbox One exclusive.

you can do like 3 seconds of research instead of getting all fanboyed out and defensive.

Both Sony and Nintendo profits are down year over year. Sony in particular is about 20% below where they were 3 years ago. It's not a sustainable market.

Sea Of Thieves is over 35 million. Forza Horizon 5 is over 35 million. Halo Infinite is over 20 million. Software is not a problem for Xbox. In fact, they are doing significantly better than Sony on software because their games still have incredible longevity while Sony's games are dropping out of the charts rapidly. Which, by the way, is why Sony is making a live service pivot. Those big AAA games for Sony do not make money.

Sony's profit margin in particular has shrank down to just 5% because of those big AAA games being so costly to produce. TLOU 2 and Horizon Forbidden West cost more than Red Dead Rememption 2 to make and Sony is burning $200 million each on those AAA games. That's razor thin margins for a segment that's supposed to be leading Sony.

          >TLOU 2 and Horizon Forbidden West cost more than Red Dead Redemption 2 to make
That is completely false. RdR had an approximate budget between $400 to $500 millions. No Sony game has ever exceeded a $300 millions budget.

This. Soon enough, you’ll just need a PC to play games.
Xbox has absolutely given up on the consoles, they’re trying to make the Xboxes themselves into babby PCs.
Sony ports most of their shit over a year after launch, they’ll probably just move to same day PC releases.
Nintendo is and always has been off in their own little space because they own all the most iconic IPs, they’ll be fine fricking around with weird gimmicks for years to come.

They still make a shit ton of money. For the long term on paper they are in a better place than Sony if MS can clear out the shit diversity hires from their studios.
Sony can't match the money MS has to throw at game studios. Sony have nothing coming up and it takes them years to make anything. All studios have been told to drop what they are doing and focus on service games and they don't want to.

      Anonymous

Sony have 17 studios, they're all making games it just takes time to come through the pipeline. Microsoft's buy everything approach is crude and typifies them, if Sony wanted to they could buy either Square or Bamco but it's not necessary. What will actually happen is Xbox studio games end up on Playstation more than they are now. If you do it with a Diablo 4 or COD it's hard to pull back on that.

Microsoft will never leave the game console market. They need the data and audience. Money is worthless to a company that already makes billions.

They may do, nobody can look 15 years forward and say with certainty how things will change with streaming and mobile. So far the console like the Desktop PC has proven to be a format that just sticks and is well liked. But it's not so straight forward for Microsoft because their potential growth isn't going to be in console. If they fall short of 60 million this gen they might rethink.
