Yes, because I can play my video games without internet. Also, if the internet got shut down, we'd have much bigger problems than video games.

    >backlog of games that don't need internet approaching ~300
    >2 TB of movies/anime/tv downloaded
    >100 gigs of porn

It will be rough after I exhaust most of that, but I guess there's still bookstores.

No there will still be an internet you just may not be allowed to access it. You will have the option to become ostracised from society and live a reservation style life or just be killed. Through are internet use we are training the systems that will eventually run the smart cities and every minutia of our lives, social credit style system, biometric ID etc etc.

power rationing is coming in the next 1-2 years, after that forced power reduction on computers and hardware. the internet will never be shut down, it's too useful for propoganda to the masses from your leaders

power rationing will never come, we will either invest trillions and develop better power generation/sources or we will die out as a species if we just keep being greedy and brainlessly focusing on profit and growth

Yeah, but there wasn't any bullshit pretense of "hey you own this, but if you read the terms and conditions we can take it away from you at any time." The service you are given is being honest about what's going on.

I doubt the internet would ever shut down, when most companies profit of it.

The internet is here to stay. It might evolve into something else, but it won't go away.

Not a single country on this planet wants it to be removed.

However, some countries have different approaches to the internet. China, for example, sees the Internet as nothing more than a double-edged sword that must be controlled on the DNS level. Sweden sees the Internet as a land of the free, for pirates and coomers alike. The USA sees the internet as a tool to go on twitter and netflix and say stupid shit.

          >controlled on the DNS level
Much more than that, actually. If it were just about DNS, Chinese people could just use 8.8.8.8 or something else, rather than a VPN that could potentially land them in jail. Even European countries actually look monitor and blacklist stuff through DNS.

there was a software bug in the 90s that shut down the internet for a few week, at least in my country and the neighbors plus vietnam. would that be likely now than before consider how advance and complicated our software have become.that a single code could doom the internet

Software can be complex but the architecture for communicating between different servers is not, and it’s fixed with several ISO standards + the IEEE taskforce. HTTP, UDP, REST/SOAP services are the norm and they’re not your typical free-for-all open-source github project.

no internet = multiplayer games will be off = PS+, Gamepass and NSO will be useless = devs can't make DLCs and microtransactions anymore = gacha genre will die = Spying on mobile phones won't work by Google and Apple anymore

You can do LAN and P2P remotely without using the «Internet», but just the infrastructure the Internet uses.

    >they're actually pushing toward shutting down global internet and switching to a china-esque local internet with zero access to outside world
it's terrifying to know that in few years they might be able to actually pull that off and destroy any semblance of modern life I have
I'd either kill myself or turn into a local ted kaczynski to take down the government with me there would be no in between
