it's a good headset, now it needs more software to use the tech, right now I'm playing 7th guest and the volumetric video is really neat, more games need to use it, though it's suited for non interactive performances
I think the improvement over the previous model wasn't big enough because no one really uses it stand alone. So that only leaves the people that do and the games still aren't good enough to justify upgrading. It cost too much to be a good entry point when the old one is on sale.
Im having fun with it, replaced my reverb g2, though is right, the Quest 2 is going for a crazy value right now, like $200 used and $300 new, the $500 is a lot to ask especially from people who havent tried vr before, though thats probably also a good thing because less kids will get it unlike the quest 2

I played that vampire the Masquerade VR game and it was so bad I haven't used my headset since. That was one of the games that was supposed to show off the new tech. Half Life Alex is still better than anything on the Meta store.

Not really. HL2 had moments showing off the physics engine but the campaign wasn't built entirely around just that.
If Alyx was built around anything it was showing that a game with mainly teleport movement could work (like Budget Cuts which Robin Walker said he took inspiration from)

LOL he only took inspiration from HL2. the levels in budget cuts are nothing like alyx. they are not long corridors that you need to walk through until you reach a loading screen. they are more like mini hubs where you can backtrack and hunt for items.

I think it's only overwhelming if you're not super familiar with how flat fast FPS work. HL2VR is one of the first game I played after I got my headset and the first thing I did was trying to bunny hop in the lobby when you get off the train in the intro.
Once you're comfortable with the speed of the game then everything flows in together and it becomes amazing. Fast paced VR FPS have become my new favorite genre.
you just have to get used to it. i still get incredibly nauseous in cars, and i had to drop alyx once because i couldn't go an hour without feeling like i'm gonna throw up, but eventually i got used to it. smooth turning still makes me wanna hurl, though.

We'll see how it does over Christmas. It's an interesting headset - it's actually a lot better than the Quest 2, but potentially not so much better that it's worth upgrading to until the game library expands.
What's really good about it is the mixed reality... not so good you'd actually use it, because walking around with a headset on is pretty stupid, but I think it's the first good development/experimental platform for good mixed reality content.
I suspect that the 'success' will be the Quest 3 light that they release in 6-12 months at $200 less.

Beyond that, I’ll occasionally get high, and play Rez, RE4, or that roller coaster simulator. I wish like hell that RE Umbrella/Darkside Chronicles and House of the Dead would get ported to VR. On-rails shooters seems like such an obvious subgenre to transfer to VR, especially just ports of old Wii games, but nobody’s fricking doing it for some reason, so we’re stuck with indieshit making mid imitations.

What's the best way to power the Q2 while playing? I'm using the funny fast charge stuff my phone came with but it maybe extends my playtime by an hour.
