I honestly would say UFO Expanded but X-COM Files is alright, although it has a bunch of annoying shit. People really like Piratez since it's really sandboxy in nature although sorta grindy once you get past the midgame.

XPiratez if you want something that has a completely different prog curve compared to the OG. You can train up superhumans that are tankier than actual war vehicles or borgs that can cross screens-worth of distance on foot and chainkill packs with 9TU melee attacks (pic related, it's my 233TU robutt killbot). And like other anon said, it's much more sandboxy in nature and has some actual replay value.
I also like that it provides a lot more tools to mitigate bad RNG.

If you're a huge fan of Heavy Metal/2000 AD you'd love XPiratez

Do not play PirateZ or XFiles after your first vanilla playthrough, play something like the first dude said, UFO Expanded, or some other close-to-vanilla expansion to get into the modded experience. Maybe UNEXCOM, it's pretty fun.

X-Files seems to be too slow. The whole "transport only carries 2 dudes" thing is too steep, you can't train your squad like that.

I really dislike how shit your rookies are as well, so you have to grind them in very boring missions to get them to an acceptable level. Genuinely one of the most tedious mods for this game.

Don't listen to this anon. Play enough of UFO Defense to get a feel for the controls, mechanics, and gameplay. Shit like TUs and kneeling and inventory management. By the time you've figured out how to actually play UFO Defense you should be pretty close to losing. Let it all come tumbling down, then go install X-Piratez and start on difficulty 2. The Piratez earlygame is a lot more forgiving than UFO Defense or XCom Files because your gals have built-in armor and above-average HP.

I'm surprised none of the openxcom devs took inspiration from modern xcom regarding finding enemies. In firaxis xcom when you can't see anyone for two turns you will get a sound cue so you know at least the direction of the last guy/pod. Why can't openxcom have that or any sort of feature similar, original xcom is famously known for not being able to find the last guy yet 10 years of modding later the bug hunt mode is the only attempt of addressing the issue? What the frick is up with that?

The problem with motion detector is that it was designed for much smaller maps, some maps in openxcom mods are like literally 10x the size of anything vanilla ever used. Motion detector only detects things 9 tiles away and only if they move, the last guy stuck in a crater that you made with an explosion 10 turns ago? Won't pick him up.

Maybe they literally can't. Maybe it's a hard limitation on the engine and no amount of modding can solve it

The entire engine has been reverse engineered and openxcom extended adds a shitload of things that weren't possible in original engine so I doubt that it cannot be done. Modders would likely rather call your dumb for not wanting to spend 20 minutes looking for the last guy.

I would settle for the ability to immediately and safely withdraw "successfully" from certain mission types if say, all of the following were true:
                >past turn 20
                >less than 10% of the enemy force remains alive and conscious
                >neither side has achieved LOS on each other for 5 straight turns
Or something like that, with say a slight score penalty for each unaccounted-for hostile, but otherwise counting as a win.

I'm sure that sounds like casual babyshit to some, but I fricking loathe being forced to use console commands because some morale-immune chucklefrick is doing a fricking Cask of Amontillado roleplay in a spot on the map I can't physically access.

Because they're autistic modders and the coders of open Xcom follow their lead. There's already a setting to make bug hunt mode automatically switch on past a certain amount of turns (which for sanity's sake you should always switch on yourself). They just don't do it because kitchen sink mega modders are insane by definition. So it's no wonder the coders don't bother with anything more.

                oh...right

                RIP half the squad

Well, at least you got a head start on Alien Biology, one of the most gated and important techs, right?

Flashbangs are a vital tool in XComFilez because they allow you to crowd control low-tier enemies long enough to move a stun-equipped guy into position. I find that half of my taser shots miss with even well-trained agents, so I try and work in pairs or even threes whenever doing a capture. Melee never really gets good in XCF so it's pretty much tasers or baton shotgun shells or nothing.

Dogs are are also a great (and superior in my opinion) alternative to flashbangs. I lalways take a few in my team unless I'm facing pure ranged units that I have no intention of capturing.

You can't prevent the invasion, but ideally you should have destroyed all three cults and reached Promotion III and BlackOps Premium as a minimum. The invasion means fighting aliens, and it will be extremely tough without the right weapons and a group of soldiers with maxed out stats to hold them.

So when the ayys show up, it isn't with b***h ass Sectoids that are more or less a match for a day 1 rookie?

oh they come with sectoids, but sectoid in x files have cat reflex, plasma weapons that one shoot you(if you don't have better armors and you will not have them if you slack off) and shields

              Anonymous

Day 1 rookies can't handle a X-com Files sectoid, unless you get lucky and blast one at close range with a shotgun or overwhelm it with mass SVDs. They have a 50 health shield that regenerates 7 health every turn. Snakemen also make an appearance. X-com Files rookies start with extremely low stats compared to vanilla Xcom, so a basic sectoid is a living god with superior aim, reactions and TUs. I would give even odds of an Osprey of 16 rookies against 3 sectoids. 1 sectoid if the map is full of clutter and you can't bring your weight of numbers against it.

the worst offender is that not only your rookies are shit, you can't also hire more experienced soldiers and training your rookies either need missions or long time in training base(and cap is quite low anyway so its not a that great)
so losing experienced agents hurt a lot especially with weapons that scale to stats(and game is ''balanced'' for its usage)

Does X-Com Files have a good initial stun weapon? I assume there's a lot of worth in capturing everything alive whenever possible

      Anonymous

Until you get knockout grenades and dart guns, the initial tasers are really it. Some guys will go unconscious from gunshots alone though, so you can get lucky, especially with frequent safehouse raids.

      >worth in capturing everything alive whenever possible
Live captives sell for okay money (especially farmers for some reason), but other than that it seems like you really only need to focus on capturing whatever guys you need for your immediate research goals.

Don't use tasers, they're worthless. Use the electric club. Dart guns are also worthless, use knockout grenades. Shotguns with stun rounds can be useful, but they're TU and inventory-intensive to use.

Cut TUs in half, cut reactions, cut melee, cut firing ability.
Basically, makes a unit really unlikely to be able to react, and less likely to do anything useful while it's happening.

I'm going to try the Gold codex this time, so:

The Admiral de corazon outfit, how good is it and what is the best way to utilize it?

What sort of craft does the codex provide, are they any good?

      Anonymous

Gold Codex seems like it synergizes well with items like Battle Flag to replenish TUs. The Officer's Lash can replenish TUs if you don't overstun your gals with repeated hits. In terms of craft, the Goldhawk is basically a private jet what goes fast and has almost no internal space.

      Anonymous

      >The Admiral de corazon outfit, how good is it and what is the best way to utilize it?
It's very good, think of it as a gym suit on steroids with +100 bravery bonus. Obviously any weapon that scales with bravery is a good choice for the admiral, people like to use silver snake, e-girl chainsaw, assault cannon, laslock pistol or just look at anything that looked garbage before but has bravery scaling and now double its effectiveness. Don't ignore the in built martial arts it can scale to ridiculous levels.
The admiral suit is likely only worn by veteran gals and it comes with ~70% resistance to all damage and will persist through death so you won't lose it if the gal wearing it dies unless the corpse gets vaporized by overkill but that's unlikely. I use the admiral suit for like half of the game it's good and fun to use.
      >What sort of craft does the codex provide, are they any good?
Gold codex main weakness with crafts is that none of the crafts provide a light weapon slot which means you're stuck with aircar, piranha, shark jetbike or some other garbage until hunter killer.
I would generally classify all gold codex crafts as slow start but high potential, el fuego and hawk can last you the entire game given good enough heavy guns and STCs but since they're heavy they're hard to arm early on, turtle carries 12 goes underwater and goes decently fast with fusion drives, the shadowbat can be used as alternative to turtle if you want better starting position at cost of less crew.

        Anonymous

        >no light weapons
Is this really a problem tho? Between Quadcannon from researching 25mm and Ramjet from Rogue Fields Warlords I feel like you can mitigate that well enough.

          Anonymous

          >Is this really a problem tho?
In my experience yeah, getting to quadcannon is considerably more effort than just using looted 25mm from somewhere and ramjet is extremely expensive to fire.

          Anonymous

          >is this really a problem though?
Yes. Between feeding the gun and replacing it if your ship goes poof, light weapons are the most economical way to ground light craft and rout infantry

They just don't do it because kitchen sink mega modders are insane by definition. So it's no wonder the coders don't bother with anything more.

Their bark reduces enemy TUs efficiently from a short range. They make facing anything melee or exploring buildings utterly trivial, because their reaction fire drains the enemy's TUs and anything suddenly appearing or getting close are rendered helpless and ready to get killed the next turn. Dogs are small, have high TU and reactions, and are good at melee so make perfect scouts even in open maps. They're cheap to buy and upkeep, so make perfect cannon fodder. They can carry a grenade or knockout grenade. So when all else fails, they can go out with a bang or sleep their way out of trouble. You can even buy a ton of dogs and use them as guided missiles in case of a base defense. An experienced dog can leap halfway across a map, kill someone, then hide somewhere where they won't get shot and then proceed to absolutely massacre anybody in the area the next turn. They also have motion detectors. Putting one or two in anything van-sized or larger is well worth it. I think they also have a small radius of infrared sight, which helps against ninjas and smoke, but I'm not sure.

The high level strat is to put TWO armed landmines on each dog. If you get close to the enemy, you drop one mine and detonate it, which kills the dog and drops the other mine.

          Anonymous

you need to patrol around an area for a few hours. the detection range is limited, so pick a few different spots in each region. monthly supply shipments and their fighter escort will create a consistent baseline of activity in a region.

          Anonymous

Expand radar coverage as a priority. Track ships to where they land frequently with escorts.
Leave a V8 laying around there until the base gets revealed..

          Anonymous

To find a base, a craft needs to anchor down for a few hours within...I want to say 300 NM. Basically you're going to want to use something like a V8 and just sort of nudge it along the continent, stopping and going constantly.

Done properly, almost every transformation (Or item, or piece of equipment, whatever) will be 'objectively better' at some point in the game, or at a certain role.
Done improperly, you end up with a game where someone advices you to tech rush to some weird fricking otherwise dead end tech branch that has the 'best thing'.

Okay, my old XPiratez save from about a year ago is on a hard drive that I think is unrecoverable. I was I think around 10 months in?
So I think I'll start again from the top.

I previously had played on the lowest difficulty because these kinds of hacks tend to err on the side of bullshit, and also because I prefer to ironman games at a reasonable difficulty instead of beat it at a high difficult by save scumming.

It was mostly pretty easy. I was able to fight off some pogroms with some cheese (i.e. ambushing a tank with a hammergirl), but others I saw enemies far out of my league and scooted out.

There were also some things that were impossible (like a mercenary base with full-auto laser dudes a couple months in) which I just ignored once I realized it was out of my depth. I'm led to understand that this is intended behavior across all difficulties, not a "haha you picked lowest difficult have some bullshit instead" joke by the developer.

I've heard a rumor that psi is locked on the lowest difficulty though, so should I bump up the difficulty by 1 for my next go around?

      Anonymous

      >I'm led to understand that this is intended behavior across all difficulties
Yes sometimes you will meet enemies you couldn't possibly win against and you should run away, that is very much by design.
      >I've heard a rumor that psi is locked on the lowest difficulty though
This is also true, intended experience for piratez is difficulty 2, 3 or 4. 1 is tutorial baby mode and 5 is wiener and ball torture experience for veterans.

      Anonymous

      Alright, thanks.
2 it is for now until I hit a victory screen,

I'd say that difficulty 3 ironman isn't unreasonable, if you're already familiar with the OpenXcom engine and can emotionally deal with losing soldiers.
There's been a new noob trap added in the last year, though. When you get a mission to "help the lokk'naars", with the description talking about getting involved in an "ancestral feud", clearing that activates the Sky Ninjas. You might want to put those off, maybe for a long time. It gives you a score penalty, and blocks some research, but the ninja bases hurt you far worse and are an absolute nightmare to clear.

The worst part is that, compared to 90% of early enemies, even basic ninja troops are rather spooky. Even if the bases didn't frick your anus, only Spartans are worse among early game enemies.

From 1.0.1 to 4.0.2? Seems that a lot of the game has fundamentally changed for that to be possible without anything breaking.

Well, it sounds interesting. Though, in general, the premise might work better for a entirely new game since you kind of want a more complex magical system. Don't know how easy or hard it is to mod in new psychic abilities.

That actually doesn't seem that complex. Just allow you to summon and fuse demons in your base and then bring them with you on missions. The only downside being that if all of your human soldiers go down, you lose even if you have demons left.

In X-Chronicles your wizard dudes get a serious buff to their stats caps (early game might be a serious pain with what you get at the start), some innate abilities, and everything else comes from equipment only wizards can use: staves fire different element blasts, different item "spells" create different attacks, some items summon allied creatures and plus there are single-time use battlefield-wide buffs if you pick light magic over dark.

I don't really think it's Discord's job to police what people are allowed to say.
It's their platform though. It's what they do.

Freedom of Speech is also a basic human right, recognized both by the United Nations, and the constitution of the United States of America where Discord Inc. is based. While there is currently no legal obstacle for Discord banning dissenters, this doesn't mean that they have the "right" to do so - rather, it should be seen as a problem with the American judicial system.
If a politician gets away with rape thanks to having powerful connections, you don't say that it's his legal right to rape people. You call it an abuse of power. Why should corporations not be held to the same standard?

          >Why should corporations not be held to the same standard?
Because no one really gives a frick? Do you not understand how power or society works? Treaties, rights, laws and all that are provided and "guaranteed" by the state anyways. Of course this clown show falls apart when it inconveniences the state.

The feds restrain each other. Democracies don't divide power between so many different agencies because they just love bureaucracy that much, it's a fundamental part of what makes the system work.

So what should I use as a basic AT/APA weapon for my lokknar goon squads. I don't intended for them to be my mainline forces but it would be nice for them to be able to injure heavily armored infantry and light vehicles.
I'm currently doing Assault Cannon (explosive rounds) to 14mm AT rifle (after a few cannoneer upgrades), but those are both very early game oriented options.

If they can carry AT rifles, they can carry RPGs with HEAT, I think.
Also lasers ignore armor if I recall.

RPGs with HEAT aren't a bad option but they don't actually function like HEAT (frick over armor) so I prefer to hold out for RR unless I'm sending a dedicated anti armor troop.

The heavy turrets can take out a tank. Not as fast as the tank can take out a turret, but then there isn't just one turret for you to deal with. A tank makes the mission much easier, but I still wouldn't try to solo it.

If it's a good spawn, I recon and try to pick off ninjas and PD turrets (the light ones that can die to even RPG rounds) before making my way to the wall, since the big daddy turrets can't hit you if you're on the other side of the compound through the wall.

The main point of the evac penalty is to encourage you to skirmish a little, I think.

The former because they're basically unstoppable (they toss a Mobile Fortress, which are more or less impossible to intercept unless you're tossing Dragons with end tier weaponry) and feature those heavy turrets. Also assassins.
The latter because of the tunnels below your base. Also assassins with nuke tier suicide vests

          ????????
How the frick are you playing this game? 2 Bandages is 4 healing charges PER GAL. one band aid kit per person is typically way more than you need. If you're that worried just leave some extra healing in the ship? Why bother with a dedicated medic for rare contingencies? Many of my missions go by without a scratch depending upon what gear you have and who you fight.

Correct, which is why you have 4 healing charges per person, you can pass the bandages around from gal to gal too by dropping.
              >An Ogre or a heavily armored gal can get ten wounds from one particularly bad firefight.
Learn to use cover. Why are you standing in a spot where you can suffer 10 fatal injuries? Remeber that armor only matters to those that get hit.

                Are you trolling me?
Sometimes a guy throws a grenade that blows up your cover. Or you get hit by shots that go around your cover.
Enemies flank you. Enemies charge you.
A spotter/sniper unit starts firing and hits you with lucky shots.
And even if they do none of those things, sometimes reaction fire gets you when you pop out to take a shot.
I've had clean missions, but I've also had ones where an autofire puts a gal in need of a doctor stat.

I'm not. I think you're over exaggerating how much healing you actually need. I've never had a need for a dedicated medic and even my absolute worst missions i only ever rarely have to break out the emergency extra healing items i leave on the ship. One set of healing tools in the belt of every soldier is enough.

ANd I think you're massively underprepared. Better to have too much so other soldiers can be happy with one Adv Med Kit or First Aid kit than have too little and see a soldier bleed out.

                >underprepared
Do you also carry a fire extinguisher on every single person in case they catch fire and must be put out asap? I've played this mod for literal thousand of hours and I've had 2 or maybe 3 people die from burning to death in that playtime. I've never ran into a situation even once where a soldier bled out because I ran out of medkit charges, that has literally never happened in a 1000 hours and I never use dedicated medics.
Sometimes your soldiers die, that's a fact of playing this game.

I do have a Fireman. He carries an SMG.
Can't prevent every death from fire, but the dedicated role has saved dozens.
Having a medic who is properly equipped for long and bloody fights helps to save not only my own troops, but potentially useful research/ransom/slaves.

                >and see a soldier bleed out.
This never happends to me because i make healing soldiers a priority upon them taking injuries. If they bleed out its because i let them get downed too far from help or because their wounded body was in a too dangerous spot to try to heal.
I don't put myself in situations where i would need more than one band-aid kit (or slot equivalent with later tech like the Adv. Medipack) and a few extra in the ship for extreme emergencies when i get myself shot up too many times.

You really should spread out your healing as much as possible. It just makes sense. Far more sense than trying to concentrate it, even if you claim you have also some others carrying healing. Where how much healing is enough or not enough isn't really the point.

Like you seem to believe that because I gave the medic lots of healing, I haven't given every other squad mate healing.
Money may be very finite early in the game, but it's not so finite that you can't buy an extra dozen FAKs.

                >why isn't she carrying that
Because every gal carries something different for the most part (save for stun batons and knives). Only secondary squads and aircar squads carry standard issue weapons.
It's important to vary damage types. So there's a dedicated cannoneer/exploder, a dedicated melee guy with multiple damage types, a chem person, etc.

Regardless, you should just spread those medkits around your squad and give her some grenades or make her one of the specialists that actually d something useful. Being a medkit specialist is just dumb and you're just wasting a potential damage dealer by giving her a pistol. There is nothing good about this. You can just admit it and say you like playing this way instead of pretending it's a good idea, just like any sane person would had done by now.

Pistols and small stack ammo weapons transcend this argument because obviously it's worth it then. In the early game you'll catch me running around with sawed offs and DB's with 4 reloads and 1 in the chamber often enough. Pistols with magazine size at 12 or below can also benefit from 3-4 reloads depending upon how you play your missions. The point i was trying to make in

is that i am the guy carrying 2 spare reloads for the Tommy even though you will realistically never even have to reload the weapon in the first place. Only time i've ever ran out of ammo with that gun is on the Bandit Camps, farming reaction fire at night time.

Do to effectively plan out your bases on piratez? Things were pretty simple on start, but when you unlock buildings with different services coupled with the limited space and having to build over things, shit starts to get confusing.

I tried to have one base (the one with the Lab) do everything, but that ended up being impossible. Ended up having dedicated bases, one to research, one for farms and one to store stuff.

      I usually do:
Two outposts that are designed to expand my radar coverage and sponsor my aircars and ground cars respectively (free rep from winning races is based).
      A production base.
      An aircraft base.
      A prison/research base.
With my main base basically being Commando HQ.

Not super familiar with XCF, but I think you're supposed to leave missions that are way above your skill level. I don't think leaving negatively affects your score.

        Anonymous

Even when it does, it affects your score less than ignoring it entirely.

      Anonymous

Multiple factors go into this, but to put it simply the damage you see in game is the average if a pistol says it does 22 damage it really means it deals 0-44. To add to this megamod makers really enjoy making zombies huge damage sponges so zombies in xcf have around 130-200 hp, so yeah it could take like 10 hits to bring them down depending on your luck with damage rolls but pretty sure you start with some sort of crappy shotgun and that brings zombies down at reasonable pace.

Most of OpenXcom is bugfixes like 'no more running out of smoke particles for display purposes' or generally agreed improvements like 'troops not forgetting what they were using between missions'. It's what GZDoom is to DooM. so I guess that makes xpiratez equivalent to Hedon...

As the game goes on you have more items, more soldiers, more research etc. everything is stored in plain text with no compression so yeah save/load times get longer with gametime. Well i haven't really played since end of 2021 but back then:
Red Dawn was an underground bunker with only one way out and a few ways in if you count dropping straight down as a way 'in'
Dagon was a temple in the middle of a forest
Black Lotus was an underground base that i think is just a base tile from TFTD?
and EXALT is a big ass mansion with like 10 floors.
I specifically mention EXALT because Red Dawn and Black Lotus bases are mostly just the main floor and an upper floor or facilities connected by stairs, like how your base is setup aswell. But EXALT has like 10 flooors and a frickload of routes throughout it, making it hte most complex one to tackle. My only pro tip for it is to leave proximity grenades in every stairwell.

Just RNG shenanigans. I don't think OXCE megamods have many 'one-off' things, generally critical story stuff will be repeated over and over with a score penalty until you resolve them.

        Anonymous

To add to this, if mission is really one time unique thing it's usually very clear from the mission description like the underground base facility mission. Some story arcs(red mage and dr x) will have limited runs but the game will still give you 3 attempts to clear them so it's generous enough.

The dev decides something else was shiny at the time and yet again I'm greeted with "work in progress" or "to be continued" where the story arc should continue. That tome of chaos item has been work in progress as long I can remember, smuggler shit is unfinished, finally some A level missions got done but it still feels barebones and probably dozen other things that in my opinion should be taken care of first.
But no what the mod REALLY needs is another soldier class, because this selection is clearly inadequate. And I know that creating sprites is like 100x more work than any other type of content.

Bra chem is literally only specifically useful for extremely specific circumstances, like fighting Megapol dudes without having the very powerful weapons you listed or trying to shred armor off some nearly uncrackable target early. Chem is highly specialized and generally not worth using unless you specifically know waht you need it for. I typically just carry flask o acid and throw it at megapol enforcers and thats about the extent of my interaction with chem damage.

It's very situational. You can use chem mortars (or even cannonballs) to kill the heavy ninja turrets, which are incredibly resistant to regular anti-tank weapons. I think I've also used chem weapons against the black pyramids in that one special zombie mission. Chem shotgun shells and the like are basically useless.

Slayer rounds are really good against bandits and zombies without needing to get close with a shotgun. Mainly because the linux smg is rather accurate.

Thing is, you usually aren't struggling to kill bandits or zombies. Why would you bother researching, manufacturing and carrying a special countermeasure just for them? A naked peasant with a spear can take out a zombie more often than not.

The main appeal of slayer is it does a lot more consistent damage to HP, comparable to shotgun blasts but with decent range. I like it since Linux with slayer is a great way to train rookies.

Can someone explain to me what the frick is CHEM damage good for? It's the only damage type I think is truly useless. In theory chem is good at shredding armor but every time I'll consider using chem ammo I'm just going to bring a bigger gun, I won't be chem shotgunning a tank I'm just going to bring a rocket launcher to do the job properly.
So am I dumb or is this damage type just shit and that's all there is to it?

ok ok hear me out. Maybe there are crap weapons for the enmies to use, right? WHAT IF there were also crap damage types for the enemies to use? GENIUS!

Chem works against Mercs if I recall

      Anonymous

      bio is better

Bra chem is literally only specifically useful for extremely specific circumstances, like fighting Megapol dudes without having the very powerful weapons you listed or trying to shred armor off some nearly uncrackable target early. Chem is highly specialized and generally not worth using unless you specifically know waht you need it for. I typically just carry flask o acid and throw it at megapol enforcers and thats about the extent of my interaction with chem damage.

Honestly I've never tried it but from what i've seen when enemies use chem against me, even when they spend multiple turns shooting chem shells they still can't get past the armor to actually deal damage. I guess you need to switch to a gun with another damage type when believe enough of the armor is shredded, but it's kinda crap since you need to aim for the same facing, repeatedly.
Plus some/most heavy weapons also break armor on hit as an added bonus

Considering the randomness of research times, concrete numbers being off would feel like the game's lying to you, while the symbols at least keep a thin veneer of "'when' is a fun mystery". Granted, that's a flimsy excuse that I just pulled out of my ass, but it's the excuse I use.

But then it's not random. The whole point is to keep you guessing (I assume). The unease and desperation from some necessary armor being half a month behind schedule, the pleasant surprise at a new gun coming in just in time to build it before a mission expires. Numbers lie, but symbols are just an estimation. That's part of the feel. If it's a [good] feel is up to personal taste, but it's a feel.

I recall one of the streamers had an endgame tactic for XCF despawn penalty, he just made use of the mechanic that lets you have negative points for one month regardless of how low it is you won't instantly lose, so he'd go like -10k points one month and barely above 0 the next one while waiting for endgame rng spawns.
On his final winning screen with all thee stats he had like average monthly score of -2000. This despawn penalty shit is horrible game design.

Just what's written on the stat page plus it blocks lifeforce focusing transformation.
I do like the zombiefication because I play ironman and never reload so having +20hp with option of revival is really nice. But even besides that new cydonia is a marathon of a mission and personally I believe squad full of zombie gals is the optimal way to go there.

It reliably spawns at least two enemies near the craft itself, within easy melee range. I rely a lot on panic chains, so starting the killing on turn 0 is very helpful for having things wrapped up by turn 4.

With a dog, lightly armored but heavily camo'd gal, high spotting unit, etc working as our spotter, and the assaulters being in the heavy armor or carrying the heavy weapons. Just like you should vary your weapons, some incidents require varying of troop type and equipment.,

    A question about camo.
When it says it lowers the distance people can see you from, how is that different from invis? Both seem to be reduced by SPOT. Is it just that invis is the same regardless of time of day?
And camo always seems to be better in day than night, but night usually gives me much better results. Why is that? Is it because units overall view distance is just lower?

      Anonymous

      >how is that different from invis?
Invis means the amount of tiles needed to be spotted from, invis 5 would mean you have to be within 5 tiles or closer to get spotted and day/night vision is irrelevant for invis purpose. Camo 5 would mean 5 tiles are substracted from your enemy vision, during day standard enemy sight is 40 tiles so you have to be within 35 tiles to get spotted.
When it comes to spot it works same on camo and invis.
      >And camo always seems to be better in day than night, but night usually gives me much better results. Why is that?
Because day vision goes much further than night vision for majority of units, almost all enemy units have day vision of 40 while night vision is somewhere between 9-25. As example a civilian or baseline human has night vision of 9, if you substract 7 from that it will have much bigger effect than substracting let's say 18 from 40. That makes sense?

        Anonymous

Wish there was a way to actually see enemies' vision range ingame. I figured the 19 day camo on catgirls was super strong, but from what you say, night vision is still the way to go, specially since catgirls have great night vision to go with it.
A bit disappointed the guerrilla outfit for catgirls is actually a step down from camo then.

maybe there's a # tip with that info; they can't just give you that number because that knowledge is behind studying the unit.
Day camo is pretty good for sniping though, you can snipe without fear of being shot back

      >CAMO: A unit is only visible from a number of tiles closer than spotter's vision range. Two values mean different effectivity at Day/Night. >INVIS: Invisibility is something on a different level altogether. These units are only visible from a number of tiles specified, not a tile further. >SPOT: Reduces both by its value, can differ Day/Night. Camouflage doesn't work if you're on fire.

If you're illuminated day camo applies, of course your enemies will also gain their day vision. Works both ways you can illuminate enemies and just shoot at them from darkness, very common tactic with hunting bow/flame arrows.

I think (THINK) it goes like this:
Camo: Reduces sight range by X. If an enemy can see 40 tiles, and you have a camo of 15, you can be seen at (40-15=) 25 tiles away.
Invis: Can ONLY be seen at X tiles and lower. If you have an invis of 5, you have to be within 5 tiles to be seen, modified by spot.
