What triggers the expansion of Rimrider bases? I had one, it didn't take that long for me to have 5 of them. How tough are they, i just got access to laser weapons?

      Anonymous

I don't know what triggers them but they do get quite obnoxious, what's inside are like 3 types of enemies, bugmen with no psi defense and purple shield, rogue catgirls with medium armor and heavily armored robots with gold shields and they're all pretty well armed but that's the good part.
I would suggest doing these as early as possible because it's a place to potentially loot nuclear lasers much earlier than you can make them, perhaps it's worth it to just do a hit and run land there kill few people who spawn near the elevators take their guns and just run, early nuclear laser can go a long way.

    Nighttime or daytime Highwayman House?

      Anonymous

If you don't have night-ops gear, do it in day. Both the stormrats and the field gun itself can out-see you if you're not geared for night.

        Anonymous

You can always tell where the gun is even if you can't see it because it spawns with an adjacent ammo crate that you can see at night, and is always in front of the same building. After that it's just a matter of just lobbing grenades at it or launching a fire arrow near it and shooting it with the raygun. In hindsight though day is better because the stormrats having both better NV and night camo is just too obnoxious.

          Anonymous

Matter is not spawning where it can artillery fire your ship.
Unless you can one or two shot it, if it can see your ship or has a line of fire to spotter/sniper it, the show's over.

          Anonymous

Issue with the gun's NV is more for first timers that don't know the spawn, and if you need to run in front of it due to bad spawns. Terrible for both night and day, but ultimately negligible with prior knowledge. Like a sprinkle on top of the stormrat shitmuffin.

            Anonymous

Big difference with night is the gun can't abuse reaction TUs to instagib anyone that attacks it from afar. Also the highwaymen have pretty good guns that make them relevant threats during the day whereas the stormrats only ever have pistols that are mostly nullified by metal armor. If you really want to beeline that 25mm cannon early on you can slowly clear the mission with pretty shitty tech at night, but once you have decent gear it's better to just go daytime and blast the thing with an RPG or a stick bomb or something so the mission doesn't take forever.

Off the top of my head, I changed it so that if you studied a given normal, mundane firearm (M16, Hunting rifle, FN FAL, etc) you could then buy the ammo for it, mainly because my ass chafed at the notion that regulations were lax enough that I could use looted rifles out of the evidence locker on missions but wasn't allowed to send Mike down the road with 1000 bucks to the nearest sporting goods store and buy .308 and 5.56 to use with said weapons.

Made the van sane to use speed-wise, no reason two rented civilian vehicles, neither of which have any meaningful offroad capability, should have that different of travel times considering 95% of their actual travel time is canonically flying coach on an airline to the nearest city close by the mission.

Beefed up enemy cultists based on their lore, Dagon dudes are supposed to be fearless lunatics according to the flavor text but in vanilla they morale break as easily as EXALT, Red Dawn are supposed to be gene augmented, but in practice are barely any better, etc. I think that last one got addressed in vanilla in the last couple patches, but I haven't checked it out in detail yet.

A bunch of economic tweaks, mostly resulting in early game loot decreasing heavily in value, so less money made in exchange for not grinding my teeth at silly things in the post-mission loot screen. Also some mid-end tier weapon nerfs because I got tired of the OP as shit B.O Autosniper->Turbosniper pipeline.

Then aside from things that bugged me, a lot more time spent on experimental mods made for fun, I've got a half-finished project to revamp prometheans and also allow you to (with difficulty) *make* a natural and differently statted one by using captured mid-tier zombies as a base, combined with a few research and workshop steps. If only all games could be so thoroughly messed with to taste via plain text edits, the industry would be in a better place.

You need a live rare animal for promo 2, so check its requirements and look for an opportunity. Usually mongorns are the most common from the list.
Researches feel like a slog compared to piratez, so try to rush 2 early research labs, bio lab and intelligence center.

        Anonymous

This is absolutely crucial and you need to rush the proper lab too. If you get lucky and find a lot of money early on starting another base to get extra bit of research helps a ton.

Most missions have a small despawn penalty if you dont attend them, you can deal with most of them by just sending a team of agents and immediately aborting the mission with no penalty, so you can just kill/unconscious a enemy unit, carry it to the vehicle and call it a day.

You can pull some really danger close shit with Dragons if you're not afraid to savescum it a bit to make sure the angles work. My personal favorite is firing from the cargo deck of a heavy freighter up the grav lift into the stern of the passenger deck. Sometimes the tanks like to camp there, and it pretty much removes half of the actual boarding action. In general, the key is to not be on the same Z-level as your target, since Piratez uses not-quite-circular explosions.

How do I speed up my research in piratez? I am almost one year in with 19 brainers on my main base and another one in my second that mainly does prisoner interrogations, is that a good pace?

      Anonymous

That sounds like average maybe better than average pace, you have nothing to worry about speed wise. If you really want to amp up research speed you will want to create a secondary research base or more if you're obsessive but from my experience something between 50-70 brainers is a decent point to stop otherwise you're likely to hit a wall when rng decides to deny you that one item that blocks rest of the tech tree.
If you want a true minmaxing approach then you need to pick grey codex for astrosensorium, farm glamour using bikinis, little bird, v8, slavery or anything that maximizes your glamour and then just have one of these in every base, I've seen some people get up to like >100 brainers and finishing up the tech tree by the middle of the second year but that's extreme end approach and likely they've savescummed shit to hell and back to even make that happen.

That sounds alright for end of year one. You'll eventually have the capacity to run small research teams in all of your bases, but the buildings for those are all over the place, and don't always make sense for the purpose of a base. A Manufacturing base is usually a fairly solid secondary research base, since you'll have stuff like a Refinery and a Surgery Room there just to be able to build specific shit.

You have to balance interrogations with researching important tech. And if you want to completely optimize it, exhaust the quick interrogations first, then go to slower ones, and so on, and research items that are quickly researchable by themselves.

If we wanted to be really specific, "read or die" can be essential to beating the game without necessarily being the entire game. Otherwise, why have hidden research criteria at all? Only Dio knows for sure, I'm just speculating here.

I can see and accept that, I'm definitely guilty of overreading the tech tree, but...bikinis? Why would I ever research underwear when I have armored cars and gnomes to do?

If the purpose is simply to obfuscate research pathing to incentivize more generalized research then pretty much anything within a given tech level is pretty valid, could even be done by having RNG flag a set of techs with each save generation if one was to be really hardline about it.

I'm just speaking in game design terms here. Opaque game elements play a pretty necessary role in this genre. Whether a game is too opaque or too transparent becomes a matter of preference.

                Anonymous

Except if that was true, Dio would say the online bootypedia was against his design.
                He does not.
                Because it is not.
The game is random, which provides enough opacity.
It does NOT need to cover up what I need for crucial game progression: the random drops may do that well enough.

I mean, if we were discussing Dio's design philosophy it would surely include anything Dio put into the game, like unspoken research requirements for events, right? Whether we agree is one matter, but I have to assume Dio agrees with his own mechanics.

I don't find this is true at all.
Most of xcom's engagement comes from exciting ways to fail and/or succeed on the battlescape, not bean counting and optimization in geoscape.
The game should reward you for doing well by its own metrics, not for reading the json files.

                Anonymous

The battlescape is where the highest density of metaknowledge takes place though.
                >missions that you have very little information about
                >enemies that you don't necessarily know the capabilities of
                >maps that you don't necessarily know the layout and features of
                >random attack roll outcomes and vague enemy damage values
The geoscape is basically a break time where you can plan things with very little RNG or ambiguity to the best of your ability before going back to the battlescape to be bombarded with unknowns again.

          As you wish.
Pirates and Files both have their shortcomings.
I will present what I feel to be the problem I hate the most with both, and you can decide from that.

Piratez is designed to spite people who say it's too easy, even though those people are savescummers or are playing in a way that is allowed by the game. Only recently has Dio cut back on this at all: some of his game is very much designed for the 'Jack Sparrow' (CBT) difficulty crowd.

Files, on the other hand, has some autistic research tree requirements. Capture everything alive. Everything. Even if it seems useless, capture it alive anyway. You will hate this game if you aren't willing to stun a lot of people or run through enemy fire to bandage an enemy VIP/use handcuffs.

The core economic techs don't really need any interrogation anyway, so the optimal route is pretty much to mostly ignore it outside unlocking missions (which doesn't rely on RNG) until you have mass produced research buildings at which point the inconvenience of interrogation RNG isn't that big of a deal.

Hunt Party is a very slow craft you can manufacture.
It holds eight infantry and walks to wherever it's going.
You need them to do primal hunts but they're pretty based for any mission of low priority that doesn't disappear when someone is 'sailing' toward it.

This seems to be the point of freshness, but my counter is 'design your maps so we don't need to you stupid Black person.' To be fair, bringing more troops means more searchng per turn thus less turnsbut it really gets up my nose when devs start telling the players they're having fun wrong.

Is this a bad starting loadout?
I know musket's kinda weak but I can always replace it, even if just with bayoneted musket for kill power.

      Anonymous

You're trying to play the wrong game, the best starting loadout is ball bat or handle with molotovs just in case. After beating up a few nurses you should have a good number of cattle prods, which is the best starting loadout when combined with molotovs for killing academy drones.

        Anonymous

Best starting loadout is giving each gal whatever their most skilled weapon is so you can get them to competent levels in something asap, in my opinion. Then mass training throwing because it stays relevant the longest with the least tech maintenance.

      Anonymous

Muskets are worthless. Use melee, throwing (sticks, javelins) and shotguns as soon as you get them. That will keep you going until you get better guns.

      Anonymous

My starting loadouts tend to be just give everyone shotgun and something in the pockets that can counter people resistant to shotguns, knives bombs axes javelins whatever they all work just fine.

      Anonymous

Muskets can't hit anything, the ol shotgun you can buy almost from the start is better. You can also use looted firearms, as long as you loot some ammo (and some lasers don't need ammo at all).

You're trying to play the wrong game, the best starting loadout is ball bat or handle with molotovs just in case. After beating up a few nurses you should have a good number of cattle prods, which is the best starting loadout when combined with molotovs for killing academy drones.

Killing everything that moves is usually faster, because after you're 1/3 to half done the mass panic starts. This also solves the searching for last enemy problem.

        Anonymous

So many missions put the highest bravery enemy in some building on the opposite end of the map and he won't panic even if you cleanse everyone else.

        Anonymous

        >faster
I don't care about faster, in the opening months I want to make as much money as possible which means using the cattle prod. Do target practice on worthless enemies like ratmen and bandits, and switch to lethal as the ultra easy enemies get phased out.

      Anonymous

I think the best laodout is a pistol in one hand and a 12-TU-or-less melee weapon in the other. It trains stats faster. Your pistol lets you take proper reaction fire and your light melee weapon trains a whole bunch of stats and is more reliable than a shitty early firearm.

Specifically it's in user/mods/piratez/ruleset, the mana entry is right at the bottom of the file. It doesn't completely disable freshness. I got messages about being unfresh after eating mutant meat and then starting getting TU recovery penalties. There's a setting just below the true/false switch to just replenish it after a mission though. With it on as well it stopped annoying me.

It's not even balanced around it. Bear in mind the defense brigade are the ones who play blackbeard/JS on all their 10+ playthroughs, so they're used to fielding 20-30 units and clearing up in 2-3 turns. Of course they love freshness, it's just a buff to them. And these are the people Dio gets his positive feedback from.

Is the 'Captain' one of the Lunatics or a separate 'bureaucrat' who doesn't exist in the game world?

      Anonymous

Open to interpretation, though I tend to go with "first Lunatic to hit Mistress rank", and if she dies, then down the rank chain among the Lunatics. If you let all 6 die, then I guess the game kinda says that your early castaways are also gals from the same farm that got separated and lost. All that being said, the fairly recent addition of the captain personality test kinda pushes the captain to a non-unit role, since that doesn't get re-taken.

One requirement is getting the terror attack from the feudals and taking some of those prisoners and the other is a strong artifact as a reward from the dimensional gate mission. Long War shouldn't be your first experience with FiraXCOM, Piratez shouldn't be your first experience with OGcom.

You'll have an easier time applying a Xenonauts mindset to it than a nuCOM one, but it's still different enough that you should poke some buttons and blow up a few times before seriously committing. I went straight from nuCOM to this, no attempt at playing the original, and it took me quite a bit to acclimate. I still end up scumming deaths away, especially for special units.
Using a guide is generally helpful, as some necessary events and such are locked behind sometimes downright bizarre requirements, but with recent updates there's not too much harm in bumblefricking around at your own pace. And there's usually anons around that can answer questions and provide tips, and I'm always around to dig through the code for semi-deeper answers, so don't be afraid to ask about your bumblefricking.

    I have two tech questions:
    - Shadow lamp - iirc it is found during Bogeyman swarm mission, do I have to shoot them down or wait for them to land?

-You have to shoot down swarm without radar and do the mission, the ones with radar always explode
-It was changed so the topic gets added to npc list and enabled with interrogation techniques, meaning you must either deplete the subject first, hope for good rng (not gonna happen) or save scum.

      1) There's 2 groups of bogeymen. One with a radar circle, one without. I forget which is which, but one of them will always get blown up during a fight, while the other usually crashes. Protip, gear for fighting at night against things that see better than you.
      2) A quick look shows that Provost and Guildmaster secrets aren't actually assigned to the relevant units, meaning you can't actually unlock them. Someone should probably tell Dio.

Locks you out of the analytics room, and to get its equivalent (VIP room) you have to go through like 2 or 3 RNG events. Baseline chance for them is ~33%, but one of those events needs onsens or dojos to bump up the chance, BUT they can only happen one after the other and failed rolls have some pretty annoying infamy hits, and that's all you get for the month. So you could end up going over a year without it if you keep rolling bad, like one anon did a while back.
At least, that's how it worked last time I looked at it a couple versions ago. Might've been made less of a ball-twister since then.

Mostly by infamy, each point of infamy(score) is 333$ and if you keep unlocking new missions and doing most of them successfully you should be able to cover maintenance through regular income + infamy bonus. The ninjas don't rape your score anymore so this is pretty reliable now.
Alternatively you can just spam plantation farms until your maintenance goes below income but these are a pain to defend.

In many base defenses I can have hangars cleared by turn 2 but someone has already entered the sewers on turn 1 and then I'll waste 10 turns looking for that one last fricker as usually they cannot surrender. Build three around the lift.

                H A H A H A
                H A H A H A
                B L B
                B
                O T H E R S

                >Oh and the gimmick trap facilities like the flame pit are useless.
They can be useful in specifically crafted circumstances, but for the majority of bases they are indeed kind of shit.

Bases need to much in them for most shit to be worthwhile, in my opinion. If you can build defenses, why not just build more AA guns?

I usually just run a couple dogs down into the sewers for each hanger turn 1 and have them keep an eye open. If they get killed, you know where the guy is and can send gals down. Then again I never go above two hangers in a base, and those that do get two hangers have shit-kicking combat squads in them, so there's less chance of someone escaping below.

              >I guess you should bunch the hangars with the access lift
Yes, and put all facilities with animal cages and living spaces next to those so your troops can have LOS on turn 1. If you bother with cannon defences they should line the hangars to have free firing arc right off the bat too. And keep in mind the access lift is indestructible as a facility no matter what you toss in there so feel free to literally nuke it if you feel like it. Oh and the gimmick trap facilities like the flame pit are useless.

I see a lot of people waiting far too long to do underwater missions because they need their infinite uptime when majority of the underwater missions can be done within like 5 turns, you won't even have time to run out of air.
People don't seem to realize is that basic swimming outfits come with XP 20 stat which is highest in the game, it's possible to send a noob gal to a underwater mission and get +40 stamina in one mission, secondary stats for rookies raise at rapid rate if sent underwater.

It is annoying to mess around with armors, but something i learned early in my XPZ days that might help an anon or two out:
If you swap one gal into an armor via the armor screen, if you then right click on any other gals in that same menu, they will swap to the same armor (if avalible) without needing 3 clicks each. Extra pro tip is to just keep as many armors as you need +1 so there will always be one avalible to swap into, even if your whole team has to wear the outfit.

That one I figured out somehow.

                >enemy missile takes out the one bunker connecting your base to the lift

Sadly you have to use six bunkers because otherwise there will be paths through the sewers from the hangars or access lifts.
So your base will have to be:
                HAHAHA
                BBBLBB
                * * * B* *
I presume near the bunkers you would want crew quarters or whatever anyway.

Bunkers are resilient so missile strikes are barely a concern.

Sewers and labyrinthine bullshit was the bane of my existence UNTIL I figured out how to use motion detectors. When holding alt, the interface gains arrows pointing to the tiles that your scanners pinged. Remembering the size of a scanner sweep is 10 tiles in each direction, you can very quickly sweep buildings, tunnels and sewers without worrying about ambush. It also lets heavy weapons like miniguns and hmgs target enemies through multiple layers of wall and fricking mulch them, especially with high powered munitions.
Never leave home without aye-phones once you have them, I like to have a fast flyer to climb onto buildings and safely scan it each turn. Give them a pickaxe and they open the roof up and toss in your bombs of choice.

Literally just have somebody use it. See that radar screen that pops up? Slam that bullshit closed instantly, openxcom has you covered. Rather than interpreting the radar screen that you are only shown one time, openxcom interprets it for you and literally points to the targets in the main interface. While holding alt, yellow arrows like the one that indicates your currently selected units will appear in spaces that have enemies that have been detected. Any enemy that has moved any amount will be detected and the detector is perfectly accurate, with the only caveat being that it doesn't specify the targets z-level.

      The Purple Lady has spoken.

      >Brutal AI
      >half the fricking enemy commit suicide with grenades on turn 1
I'm not sure they're more intelligent. They like to hide more but I still mow them down like morons.

Ok I'm back from extended testing of letting Brutal AI control every unit in the battlefield, including my own. While the enemies will actively try and move around the battlefield instead of playing hide and seek with your units like vanilla, BA is not very good in controlling gals. Due to Xpiratez being a melee focused game at the start the AI just makes all your gals rush the enemies without even hiding them behind any walls or anything. Now that wouldn't be that important early game, however the AI WONT USE BANDAGES OR ANY HEALING which lead to your gals dying by bloodloss. I tried to give my units bandages on their off hand at the start of the battle but even if they have them on their hand and there is an injured ally near, they will instead opt to search for enemies. So after all that atm a full AI battle campaign in XPiratez isn't possible.
I'm going to try AI Xcom Files now since its more "normal" (ranged focused) since it might actually work properly now. Still worried about those injuries though....

Okay it seems that putting any sort of melee weapons on your units will make them suicidal, so if you want to use melee weapons then Brutal AI will just think your units are zombies and just move them towards the ayys regardless if they can survive or not.

I mean this in a "why would you balance the game like this" sense.
Honestly the earlygame feel of Files where you're still playing as some FBI shmuck reassigned to Kodiak Island to look for Bigfoot for sleeping with your bosses' daughter is the most fun part of the game. When you still have to scrounge and scavenge and pray that your two mags of AK ammo and a 60yo old Soviet grenade will last long enough to take down that Reaper.

Truth be told I use brutal AI since the 'team comms' feature makes the AI more likely to charge out of hiding spots to swarm you, rather than waiting in a fifth floor closet.

No. I think I got into this mod in the Ls or the Ks. Point is, basic manufacturing of bullets is before my time, I'm pretty sure.
            I really wish we could.
Being able to make your own bullets would be the easiest way to ease logistics: just having a few runts endlessly working on another set of mags.

              Anonymous

Rifle Manufacture basically let you make any basic bullet. now you can't do that and a lot of weapons are useless because by the time you can buy, say, Commando Pistol ammo, it's not worth using, and you can't jsut loot rare rounds like that. It also meant that getting dead lucky with 2 early LACCs meant you could actually use one after researching the other. But that was too fun so it had to go.

This actually cuts off a good chunk of positive events, remember all those "knock knock here's a random visitor" events? Soreass removes all of them and nobody can wander into your hideout for free, it's strictly a downside.

            Anonymous

It makes most of the random events do nothing instead. Your captain won't be tempted by mysterious doors, visitors will be shot til they go away etc. Randomness is reduced for better and worse. Of course the anon said he got the box in the first month, and might have been before the personality test, so shrug.

Well yeah they do that sometimes. Events are not enough to deal a critical blow to your score imo. They have higher potential positive value vs the negatives. You can just play Sore-Ass if you REALLLLLLLLLY hate the RNG.

You're pretty much guaranteed to go negative in a month when the first faction base goes down. That means there's a month either side where you have to stay afloat.

                >cope post
                You only need -1 twice.

                Wrong.

This sounds more like a debt problem.

That said, game-ending conditions shouldn't be hinged on random chance. There aren't enough interesting outcomes in the pool of events, either.

You need to be below -900 to lose by score. Which pretty much requires a multitude of bad events, a bad start location (one of the ones gives like -500), and getting almost everyone killed. And then it needs to happen again the next month.
Not saying I'm doubting you, but either you're misremembering AND you're incredibly unlucky, or you're throwing in the towel rather than actually losing.

I think people vastly and I mean VASTLY overrate the penalty from traditional. Let's think about it this way and let's say you have traditional 10 which you probably won't get to, if a mission lasts 10 turns that unit will regenerate 50 less energy.
It takes 14 TU to use a stimm on yourself and recover that 50 energy you'd be missing from traditional. Is this really such a horrible setback? Why are people so afraid of using drugs in this game? Yeah they cost freshness but traditional does give you freshness and you'll be in net positive on average and you won't always have to stimm yourself you're not always low on energy.
The chance is if the description didn't tell you about this on average you wouldn't even notice the effect.

Like, really? It feels like average piratez player sees that something uses freshness and this item becomes instantly unusable in their minds.

The question is rather: why do we have to have a penalty for staying in theme. And Dio obviously considers it a fairly serious penalty as evidenced by the fact that recovery rewards are vanishingly rare, and certainly don't come in blobs of +5. Stamina is admittedly the least bad of the three, but why deal with it at all when there's hundreds of weapons you can use instead that don't permanently penalize you?

Dio balances this game to punish people who cheese it and then say it's 'too easy'.
He doesn't balance this game for normal people who just want to play.

Stop exaggerating, at the very most traditional gives you -5 to energy recovery if you somehow get more than 250 pirate weapon kills. If your dude is somehow seriously gimped while having that many kills there's something wrong.

              >why do we have to have a penalty
I have no idea I can't answer that. All I can say about traditional and all other condemnations, they're not essential to your success if you need condemnations to win you're fricking something up in the big scope really hard.
To any unaware newbies, condemnations in the past used to give you NOTHING and I honestly preferred it that way but there's no going back.

Nobody even suggested this. They're just ANNOYING. Who the frick wants permanent stat penalties for using a weapon they like? You and Dio, apparently.

                >You and Dio, apparently.
Like I said if I was in charge of the mod I'd just go back to having no bonuses at all because it would avoid bullshit like this. But I did go out of my way once to level up traditional and my 300 kills pirate queen got to traditional 8 and I never noticed the energy penalty from it in normal gameplay. You will probably have more fun playing the game just letting condemnations stack up naturally and not going out of your way to stack something specific.

-5 morale per turn is not inconsequential. Neither is -5 stun recovery. Stamina is by far the least annoying.

do people actually care about freshness? I straight up ignore it and almost never run into problems. I often go into missions with like 1/3 freshness, spam booze and shit and still have no problems and I consider myself an overwatch creeper. Genuinely would always take hp and armor over shit like freshness. The only times I ever notice it is in really long missions which I tend to avoid because they are annoying.

On my last base assault it ran to 60 turns and at the end even with bughunt on i took god knows how many turns to finish because everyone was freaking out losing their TU's every second turn, and those TU's were halved anyway. Just crossing the map to get to the last enemy was an utter pain. And for what? It's a pain for the sake of it. It's like weapon degredation when there's no reason for it (ie. 99% of games with weapon degredation).

Anon, I'm aware that there are fixes. Thing is, if it's really that trivial then again, why is it there at all?
                >added a system where you have to eat apples and smoke during combat
                >it's very piratey
                >but stop using rum, that's not piratey
                >also pay your taxes
                >and fines
You're just making excuses for a pointless system. Freshness doesn't make the game unplayable. It just makes it more of a chore.

      >Technological advance is an inherently iterative process. One does not simply take sand from the beach and produce a Dataprobe. We use crude tools to fashion better tools, and then our better tools to fashion more precise tools, and so on. Each minor refinement is a step in the process, and all of the steps must be taken.

An amusing thing you can do is if you max out traditional, gal of steel, and use charmy dancer, you can give a gal+11 to her base armor.

Okay I know I'm probably the only one that is (trying to) play Xcom files right now but I'm posting a small strategy guide for the very early game so that people can see it when they search the archives:

VERY EARLY XCOM FILES STRATEGY GUIDE:
Before we begin lets talk about Science. Every research has a bunch of symbols next to its name in the tech tree viewer (press the middle mouse over any research to access it) that show us how many Scientist Days (tm) it takes to complete it. A "." is 1 SD, "-" is 5, "=" is 20, "#" is 100. One scientist generates 1 SD per day he is assigned to a research. So a research that has "==--" next to its name will take 50 SD to complete, right? WRONG. Every time your start researching a technology completion time randomly gets multiplied by a value of 50% to 150% that you have no way to see ingame. That means that if you assign a scientist to research a tech that needs 50 SD it might complete from 25 days earliest to fricking 75.
Now that you know the basics lets start the actual guide.

START BUILDING AN EXTRA HANGAR+PRISON+GYM ON YOUR FIRST DAY THEN BUY AN EXTRA PUBLIC CAR
GEAR: Taser pistol+ammo and then either a handgun or shotgun depending on your units acc.
ALWAYS GO LETHAL ON YOUR FIRST CREATURE HUNT. You MUST get and research a monster corpse early in the game so grab the first monster you kill and gtfo.

    RESEARCH:
Chief Accountant Introduction rng event (thanks mod creator)> use all 5 scientists for logistics (50 SD)
Logistics is the most important tech in the game because it will actually let you fricking play the game by unlocking the option to buy PUBLIC/VAN. Why is it important? Because you can use FOUR units per battle instead of fricking 2. After that:
4 Sc. on Medicine (50 SD)/1 on your prisoners(lowest SD first)>Adv. Med (50 SD)> Bio Lab (50 SD). (+5 Scientist space but it will also speed up your wounded timers)
    X-Com GIB+Strange Creature Autopsy+Cultist Interrogated=X-Com Summary Report #1>PROMOTION>SMOKE GRENADES

The tech tree viewer is in pretty much all popular Openxcom mods. The way Scientist Days work comes from vanilla Ufo Defense https://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php/Research_Technical_Details

Ignore that guy. It's a really good idea. Always have your hangers and access lifts ringed in living quarters, those are where most of your gals will spawn in for base defences.
