How hard does this game get in terms of actual difficulty? Like if I have most divine and arcane buffs covered and save regularly so I don't get into fights with no buffs, I'd be fine, yes?

The real hardest part is suffering through the Crusade bullshit and the camera in act 4. Game's pretty simple if you know the system, and just a bit difficult if youre familiar with tabletop games like D&D. If you have no experience in either, or RPGs like this in general, itll be pretty hard.
Difficulty has like 7 different settinsg and it's highly modular.
If you are not moronic with your builds and party, you could tackle daring-core with pure classing
You're fine, especially if you merge your spellbook as angel, and dog is one of the best pets
You don't really need to be turbo-optimized for anything below core and actually for most of core as well. Always take fights when you're buffed up and don't be completely braindead and it should be fine. Animal companions last I checked were always a net benefit to the team and the druid spell list has enough unique stuff to not overlap too much with the other divine casters on the team.

You pick the metamagic you need and apply it to the spell you want? it's not that hard. You just have to pick the correct metamagic for the correct spell, such as heighten for DC casters

Look at pic related, it has a difficulty class of 32, and it says that if the enemy passes a will save they negate the effect. Meaning that the target has to pass a 32 will save or be confused
If you use heighten metamagic as I mentioned, you can increase the DC, you can also use persistent metamagic to force them to pass another saving throw if they manage to save the first one
