>Pays fortune to resurrect Shepard. >Even more to replicate and upgrade the Normandy

>Pays fortune to resurrect Shepard
>Even more to replicate and upgrade the Normandy
>Doesn't install a control chip into Shepard and allows him to recruit personnel who may not be loyal to the Cerberus cause because he cares more about results and humanity
>Acts when the Alliance and the Council discuss and deny
>Can't be held accountable for his ME3 actions because of diminished responsibility from indoctrination, even Cerberus combat troops were huskified

>Players forget all this and consider it too much to even hand over the Collector base

What a bunch of ungrateful shits people are. But what an excellent social study Mass Effect is. I imagine real world social and political deductions can be made from these findings.

Really a shame how much 3 wasted all the build up of the first two. They never should have bothered with a trilogy.

      >build up of the first two
Ah, yes. The "Reapers" that were ignored in the second one to introduce new party members (that most folks didn't give a damn about) and a suicide mission and killing Shepard off.

Only to bring THEM BACK with the DLC for 2. Truly riveting writing.

While that anon used poor wording, I do believe he has at least half a point. The Reaper threat is coming but instead we fricked around with their henchmen instead. Stuff like bringing the galaxy together and solving troubles between races should’ve happened before the war in ME2. Not right in the middle of it in ME3.

IMHO most writers aren't got if there's nobody to stop them. The reason Drew was good is because he knows how to tell A STORY and outline it. The bad thing is that he is literally whoring for anything to make a story out of and he writes for money, so unless you have someone to filter what he's trying to write next, he ends up picking things like Revan again and mucks it up because he's trying to grind blood from a stone with it, and bends it to the needs of a new story idea he has.

No he doesn't, and neither do you.
The Reapers should never have come to the Milky Way, the war should never have happened in the timeline of the trilogy.
Even with Arrival, the Reapers could be a hundred years away.
The Reapers should, at all events, make a beeline for the Citadel, commandeer it, hijack the Relay network, and give you a big fricking game over.
There is no feasible way that any force would anticipate the combined force of hundred of thousands of Reapers, pouring in through the Serpent Nebula Relay, no matter what any game did, before that. ME3 fricked up. And because it fricked up, it had the Reapers intentionally fricking around the Milky Way for no goddamn reason, while you fought Cerberus, because no matter what any other game does, you can't fight hundreds of thousands of several kilometer long invulnerable space death squids, when you're one guy with a shotgun. And the one time you do fight one, it's the worst fight in the franchise. God, you fricking idiots just love sucking your own dicks, and think you have a point.

you can just ask new questions or pose new thoughts in your other ME threads, you don't have to keep making new ones lel.

but anyways, being indoctrinated like TIM was doesn't mean you're just a mindless husk. he still had free will over most things in his life, he just literally couldn't do something that would sabotage the reapers directly, as shown in the 2nd to last cutscene in 3. he's still fully responsible for massacring civilians and doing japan-tier warcrimes to them lel.

good character, using renegade dialogue options in final cutscene feels really fulfilling after all this time. a lot of what he said made sense, but in the end he couldn't do anything about it to bring it to life.

5 fricking Mass Effect threads. What’s going on?
But to address the actual topic, Cerberus being reduced to a 1 note bad guy organisation really sucks when they’re just morally grey at worst. I was also really confused why saving the Collector base was somehow the renegade choice and not the paragon one but I guess the writers were already starting to pivot away from Cerberus being an interesting faction by the end of ME2

      Anonymous

      >morally grey
since the very first game, they have been nothing short of chaotic evil/neutral evil. they have done extremely fricked up things to put humans first, and as 2 progress do even more fricked up things to try and "save humanity." i'm glad you get to call TIM out on this bullshit to his face at the end. only even more amusing when shep laughs at him that he's literally unable to press a button to control the reapers, so all he did in the end was frick everything up.

    >Players forget all this and consider it too much to even hand over the Collector base
You do know it's an RPG and you can choose different things in your various playthroughs, right?
I picked "hand over collector base" this time, because last time I played a character that didn't. If you roleplay in any other way than this you don't have imagination, which means you don't have empathy, and no one should listen to you about anything anyway.

Having the IM be indoctrinated felt like a really cheap cop-out, honestly. Cerebus as an extremist 'humanity first' org were interesting, and I felt like our chats with the IM in 2 - particularly in how he can go from being cool with Shep to legitimately respecting him - really should have been a fulcrum for whether he goes all-in on trying to use the Collectors/Reaper teach (not trusting humanity) or whether he believes we're on the right track and need support, not control. The choice between guidance and control would have been a great split for the IM.
And, of course, you can still have bits of Cerebus become indoctrinated or go rogue in ME3 if need be, with the more extremist elements slipping the leash. Having the IM as a strategist/ally would have generated a ton of fascinating conflict for potential allies, and for the man himself, challenging his supremacist outlook or at least channeling it into more of a 'galactic community and competition brings out the best in humanity' kind of deal.
Either way, I thought he was a really solid character and I'm glad the 'human supremacist' angle wasn't played in an explicitly hateful way.

Same problem with "my people first" antagonists in modern writing. They make actual sense, so the story has to contrive a reason to make them the "bad" guys.

Mentality. Of all turians only Garrus could be a potential candidate, elephants are too slow, israelites are too egoistic, salarians already run it on goverment level, asari are a mix of salarians and israelites, slavers were turians, but with slaves, krogans are too warlike not to fight each other with only Wrex pulling something more or less, rachni is a hive.

You don't get it. Those, who are smart, are either too egoistic to run a nationalist operation, or run it on official goverment level. All races except humans are either too individualistic, or are already too "nazi". It only humans, who try to pull "we love everyone" officially and still being nazi in secret. Others either are not or are honest about it.
