Most of the arenas in the base world maps are trash and not suited to fighting anything larger than a shitmon. Larger monsters are also constantly running into and sliding along walls, breaking the immersion world is trying so hard to build. Fricking with core gameplay like this was a terrible idea.
Clutch Claw is an awful mechanic from both a philosophical stand point AND how they implemented it. The game launched with only like 2 weapons having it properly integrated into the moveset (Hammer and Lance), a couple of others get partial integration, and bunch of weapons got nothing. The fact that it launched like this is baffling. It also controls like shit.
Combat is based around crowd controlling monsters more than anything else. More so then the other games the combat is built around putting the monster on the floor or getting it to drool like a moron and punishing it. This isn't really a downgrade, just a different combat design, but I'm not a fan.
Unskippable cutscenes. And you can't join a story hunt until a player has finished the cutscene or walking section. For a game that was specifically focused on multiplayer at the expense of the singleplayer experience, they sure were moronic when it came to designing the story.

It's akin to cheating better gear, the only case scenario where the defender set is justifiable are for people who played the game on one platform and wants to move to another, in my case I went from the PS4 to PC and still didn't use the set because I enjoy the game but I can understand some people wanting to speed through the beginning to get back to the endgame but otherwise you're a Black person if you use it.

It's a good game. I ended up liking Rise/Sunbreak better because of the characters and the monsters themselves being more distinct but World/Iceborne is mighty fine and my first go at Monster Hunter so I can't be sufficiently grateful for it.
