Nah. 2 is a pretty good step up. V3 is where that level of thinking applies but even then that majorly applies to the final chapter. Everything before it is good to shlocky.

Depends on why you hate VNs. But this is probably one of the most accessable VNs for people who don't like VNs.
I just finished the first game. If you allow yourself to get immersed into the story and attach yourself to the characters it'll take you on an emotional roller coaster.

I haven't played Your Turn to Die yet, but I consider Paranormasight to be one of the best visual novels ever made.
It's only about 12 hours long, so if you enjoy visual novels, I'd highly recommend it. Best to go in blind, too.
It's different than YTTD. Paranormasight left a good impression on me with its atmosphere, visuals, characters and music. If you love death game/battle of wits stuff like in DR/YTTD/Raging Loop or even Mirai Nikki the intro will really hook you in, before changing course unfortunately. It's a horror/mystery VN based on japanese folklore. The twist was really fun and some mechanics were pretty out there.
