because the industry while acquired more technology got filled with talentless hacks and movie directors wannabies that wants to always say something instead of doing something fun,

also Internet and capitalism run the show now so we can't have them both.

Are you implying there's a single interesting novel idea to be found in the worlds in any of those games? Because I played half of them and there isn't, they're not bad games for it, most of the ones I played were pretty good, but they aren't relevant to the topic.

Media made after the smartphone/internet boom in general has trouble with this because it's all inspired by the same homogenized stuff everyone has readily available access to rather than unique organic obscure stuff that's either personal to the creators or that they had to hunt down in person rather than googling a widely available source.

Vidya also has an additional problem now in that the high budget production stuff is made by wageslaves who don't give a frick about it and only do what the suits tell them to, and indies have a choice between focusing on gameplay but neglecting creativity, or exploring unique ideas but at the expense of gameplay. The case used to be that people with interesting ideas they wanted to put into game form could work at well funded studios to do those ideas justice working alongside other professionals, rather than cobbling something together on their own. Pic related is a trip of unique shit that maybe half a dozen anons on Ganker have heard about, yet it was professionally produced on a level that maybe 10 indie games ever can match.

PMD gameplay is just the right amount of jank to be enjoyable.

I had the exact same thought today. Been playing Xenogears and while its rough gameplay-wise (the fricking input lag, pointless pauses and encounter rates etc.) its so damn memorable I played for almost 4 hours straight which I haven't done in a long time. Modern games play so much better but the majority of them are just not memorable at all.

clunky was refined and you just didn't like it because it triggered your autism and adhd because the enemies could walk with no issue at you and you had a fit because it took more effort and brain power to play the game

Blu-ray and dvds. Sure we get less extra features these days from big studios, but boutique companies release special stuff. The prices are not insane either like gaming. I don’t promote collecting physical tv and movies cause I don’t want what I enjoy the most to get ruined by scalpers and resellers
