I know this may sound weird but the blizzard of 1990s-2010 is a completely different beast than today’s abomination. I just want to play the old games and that’s it. If that means I got to play reforged you do online ladder than so be it, but I just wish they would fix shit.

It's pretty funny that you can still download the OG versions from blizzard's website. They're such c**ts that they force you to install reforged even if you have registered original wc3 cd-key to your battle net account, and the only way of getting the old one legally is via an URL that's not available on official sites.

I'm playing the latest pre-reforged build (1.31?), finished the whole RoC campaign, and in the middle of the TFT campaign now, so far zero bugs.

if you have an original WC3 key, you may use it and i imagine you can still get those for almost free somewhere, however, as soon as you try to update the game will download all reforged assets regardless of wether you bought it or not, so you are stuck with reforged disgusting campaing, UI, online and everything else regardless.
do not give blizzard a single cent, if you really want to play WC3 again then pirate it, its a 20 year old game, pirating it cannot be easier, then paly in the 1.26 version for the best campaing experience. 1.27 and onwards add new functionality for modern OS/widescreen and some QoL features but also introduced a myriad of bugs that were never fixed, specially for the campaing
This is a lie i didnt buy reforged and have never seen its assets or campaign despite them installing. Reforged owners have a toggle to use original graphics, and most due in custom games to avoid desync.
the point is you'll be forced to download all reforged assets for no reason even if you didn't buy it, you don't get to use those models tho, you need to pay 20$ to have the privilege to do that because the classic/reforged model switch option is locked otherwise lmao
afaik only gameranger and servers like eurobattlenet are the only way to play online, and very few people give a damn about meele maps over there, everything has been barren since they killed all the hostbots
Damn, I'm mostly interested in the multiplayer aspect, Garena shut down years ago, Gameranger is practically dead and I really have to applaud them for managing to turn a 1GB game into 20+GB of garbage.
Let me know if you know of any third-party alternatives for multiplayer, WC3 is really the only game I even play anymore

I bought Warcraft III: Reforged Spoils of War Edition in 2018 which cost $39.99. I did this after trying out StarCraft: Remastered and was blown away at how amazing the remaster was. I was going into it thinking they would copy paste everything they did with StarCraft for WarCraft III. I was so disgusted I haven't opened it in three years, only started playing Reforged this year.
Just looked at WC3 on the Blizzard store, it's still 39.99$ while the standard version is 29.99$, for personally it's a lot of money to spend just so I can play multiplayer. I can't see myself spending that money anytime soon unless Bill Gates drops his wallet near my house.
The problem is the pirated version you can get doesn't have any large third party multiplayer community, Gameranger has like 30 servers dedicated to mongol lod and Hellhalt custom games, I'd just love to play multiplayer on bnet like the old days.

The models were made by some Vietnamese game studio instead of in-house Blizzard devs which explains the "JRPG" look the models have. The models themselves are unfinished/buggy/badly stylized, textured, animated if you looked at the unit portraits. You could use the Starcraft 2 WC3 HD models and make a custom map to play with those if you wish...

The studio Lemon Sky came on reddit to answer questions and post screen shots on how the studio works.
Literally all their direction came directly from Blizzard and they even gave them models and suggestions to a style that was more like the game only for them to say no. All Lemon Sky did was the models, nothing else. All the programing was still done by Blizzard.

Pretty much Blizzard kept going back and forth on if WC3 was just going to be an HD patch or go like with AoE2 DE and add content. This also happened durring the start of the Blizzard scandels so lots of people where going in and out of the project.

Even if you have to buy Reforged bullshit, you can turn off the new terrible graphics and go classic mode in the settings. Personally I just still had my battle chest so didn’t have to buy that bullshit.

you are still stuck with Bnet 2.0 and whatever awful changes they decide to implement in the game further down the line, it is a downgrade in all aspects compared to the original.

So glad i kept my old install CDs for RoC and FT. I was able to download the last pre-reforged versions from Blizzard using the CD keys and now I have them on my computer, no bnet required.
