It's pretty shit yeah. The engine can't support more Pokemon, so it's gimped at like half the Pokedex. I think the reason they haven't ported it is because they barley understand how they got the whole fusion system working in the first place

That literally makes no sense, I could event something in fricking RPG Maker 2003 with support for as many monsters as the variable value limit allows (signed 2,147,483,647). Unless they tied everything they do to the default database, which would be moronic as frick, this should be a non-issue.

Given how autistically well documented Pokemon is in general, recreating pokemon even in the ancient RPGM versions would merely be time consuming, but not actually difficult, especially with the Maniacs Patch. You lose Ruby scripting support, but honestly, frick Ruby.
Multiple SMT-like and DQM-like RPG Maker 2k/3 games exist, so it's not like it's impossible.

I'm making my own rom hack for Emerald using the decomp and it's pretty surprising how much is tied to the old GBA assembly code

I think gen 6 starts are a lock, but gen 5 and 7 will probably get beat out by at least 3 other Pokemon. If that happens, then the starts will be mechanically disqualified
