Technically yes, because you will be forced to punch enemies to death which deals no damage, but you can carry 4 weapons and many of the ones you can use don't necessarily have ammo, it's nearly impossible to fully run out of ammo. Also if you die and respawn on a checkpoint you get back with full ammo.
Based on gameplay you CAN discard your guns and use punches if you have no swords.

I had to try it a few times before I figured out what the game expected of me. I think the biggest problem is that it doesn't tell you that the assault boost is the gateway to big dick damage until after the boss.

You don't have to. Not in Sekiro either. Nor in Souls. You just have to understand how the game works and how to maximize your character's power.
Take Sekiro. Do you suck against Lady Butterfly? Well, fortunately for you, you don't have to immediately beat her early on. Come back later when you have are near the end of the game and have way more Attack Power and she becomes 100 times easier. This has nothing to do with skill or getting good. You having higher attack power means that you do more vitality and posture damage by default.

How is it possible to be this bad? I beat this thing just staying in the air to avoid the missiles, and charging at it with assault boost + sword whenever the sword was up. My biggest problem with the opening mission is that I keep hitting L2 trying to quick boost since that's what it was when I was emulating FA a couple weeks ago.
Because people are not used to the idea that you're suppose to melee a helicopter. It feels like you're suppose to shoot it down. Boost+Sword as the goto tactic is something veterans would do, not first time players.
Issue is that quite a few souls players are used to sitting back behind a shield instead of being hyper aggressive. Nioh filtered them in the same way.

Imma be real wif u. Action games have a harder time landing these days because of the percentage of the population that is older now More old people than ever are gaming because they grew up with it. When you get old, you just aren't as active. Statistically you're going to be slower and less willing to exert energies. You, yourself, might still be fast - but not as fast as you were 20 years ago.
Not only that, but health becomes a genuine concern. Tennis elbow, back problems, arthritis, and stuff of the sort are hitting more adults than ever due to bad gaming habits for decades. So, like, button-mashing mechanics are genuinely unpleasant because your muscles just aren't up to the job of mashing 'X' 20 times per second frequently in games that constantly throw that mechanic out. Your arms start to get sore. You feel it the next morning. If you've had a muscle injury in your arm, the entire time you're button mashing you're thinking about if it's going to cause a relapse and the injury to come back.
There's also the issue of wasting time learning/mastering battles and the lack of time available as adults, but that's needless to say.
The end result is older gamers want a more chill experience. Intense games like this ... just aren't really made for them. And old people need to just accept that and find something more chill. There's no shortage of less intense games out there. Getting old is shit. But that's how it is.

Melee isn't it's own "build", you can only have one melee weapon and they are the optimal weapon for punishing staggers and are nearly useless outside of them. Melee is VERY viable, but it isn't something you "build" around.

My display is HDR compatible but the game doesn't like that setting. Dunno why.
For me it only works if I open the game with my HDR monitor as my main monitor and set the game to full screen instead of borderless window. IIRC Sekiro had the same issue. In that case the game detects and turns on HDR automatically.
All three of my monitors are HDR compatible, though. Probably just jap PC incompetence again.

I just beat him first try. I'm using quad legs, laser sword + laser rifle with two more laser rifles on the back, and as much armor as I can fit in my weight limit. The laser rifles melt him.
I got through him after like 15 tries, and I did it with this build:
You just need to be incredibly agile and poke him when he’s at his 2nd phase, which is what I personally did , so the shotguns really helped
Also equip the launchers that shoot 2 missiles per burst, and not the one that shoots 4, since the former is more accurate

Armored Core 2 on the PS2 got Another Age, which is basically just a frickton of missions if you're an AC junkie (plus some of the hardest superbosses in the entire series at the end of that). Armored Core 3 (reboot) had Silent Line, which was a direct sequel to the story of 3. Armored Core Nexus had Last Raven, which was not only a continuation but a more fleshed out exploration of the idea Nexus had with a bunch of raven factions duking it out and balling hard. Then there's Armored Core 4 (tech demo) and Armored Core 4:A (fleshed out with multiple routes), and Armored Core V (practically multiplayer only) and Armored Core Verdict Day which actually puts the effort in to give it a story.
In summary, every game up to this point has had this pattern.

Why are so many people obsessed with 'not taking damage' in an Armored Core game? If you aren't running the lightest build there is then what's the problem with tanking a few shots? As long as you're dodging shit you're good. There's so much shit to die to in AC and here you are tallying up your no-hit run or something. This isn't DaS. Tank the hit.
